Midwest Mixtapes x 103.7 Da Beat Artist Spotlight - BLIZM

1) Blizm, The Dangerous Unc!!! Introduce yourself to 103.7 Da Beat audience
Whats Good! I'm Blizm, artist, producer, engineer and founder of Chainless Entertainment, and K-100 Radio. I've been in the music industry over 25 years, starting out as a creative and artist in 1999. I have several works of music that I've released on my independent label, Chainless Entertainment over the years including five solo albums with my sixth album, "The Dangerous Unc" being the latest that is scheduled to be released on Feb. 19, 2026. I started K-100 Radio, which is an award winning 24/7 live streaming digital radio platform, officially in 2011. It was a way for me to expand my brand as a creative and also put my skill set as a media production major in college to use, while at the sametime helping other indie artists. I act as the Program and Music Director for the broadcast as well as producing some of the shows and being an on-air personality, conducting interviews from time to time.

2) Born and Raised in Florida and planted roots in Atlanta? Tell us about that transition?
Well I moved to Atlanta in 1997, and I visited a few times before I made the move and really it just made sense. I had aspirations to be in the music industry and this city was on fire, literally everyone was moving here in the industry. Major labels were setting up offices and major artists were buying homes here. It only made sense. Plus it was only a 5 hour drive from my hometown, Panama City, FL. I also loved the display of black excellence and culture in Atlanta. It just felt right and made the most sense so I moved here and started my grind. I met my first producer, Doc Zo, in 1998 and my first album dropped in December 1999. I went to a school, AIU here in Buckhead to learn audio/video and media Production a few years later. So that's how I got into the latest creative technology at the time, which also helped me as an artist and label owner. I learned how to record and mix my own music, and shoot and edit my own music videos, cutting down on the cost of running the label and producing my projects.

3) So you got ATL started pursuing the music and you put it on the back burner and created K100 Radio?
Yeah that is the condensed, very short version and way to put it. It wasn't something I planned though. I had been doing music for a decade, I had 4 albums out at the time. Then I saw a shift in the social media space and noticed people gravitating to different kinds of platforms outside of music. So because I had the skill set and knowledge, I entered what would now become known as the Podcast space way before it was cool or popular back in 2009. I started K-100 as a Podcast on a platform called Blogtalk Radio, and I would just play music by other indie artists and talk about it. Then we started a call in a talk show and a music review segment called, "ILL or KILL" that was pretty popular, but I felt like it was too sporadic. We only did it once a week. I brainstormed, did a little research and saw that the technology to create an internet radio broadcast was something I could do. I bought all the necessary gear to start K-100 Radio as an Internet Radio broadcast that focused on the music industry and playing indie music. It was a gradual transition but once I started it, it took off really quickly and got very popular. I helped pioneer what is now the online music review space with "ILL or KILL" because I was one of the first people to infuse going live on social media with the show. It caught fire and made the brand spread quickly online. That plus the fact we would pop up outside to all the music industry events in the city and a few beyond and do live interviews. So with all of that going on, running the broadcast, I just basically moved away from creating music as much as I was. But again, that was never really my plan.

4) Now you have K100 established, you're back in the booth! Now you have been dropping singles here n there the last couple years but now it seems like u found that one; tell us about "Clean Up Nice" !?!?
Well Clean Up Nice was the song that was picked to be the single off the new album, The Dangerous Unc. But when I recorded it, I did not know it would be the single. To circle back a bit, like you said I did drop a few songs in between my last album, "The Cinema Of Me", which came out in 2011. In between then and now I dropped six singles and I also Executive Produced and R&B album that was released on my label. So while it was far and few between, I did create and drop some music. But once I decided to commit to creating another whole album, I just created several songs over the span of two years, adn the best of them would be used for the album as long as they fit the theme. After sitting down with all the songs, "Clean Up Nice" stood out for several reasons. The production, the hook sung by C-Rena, a very dope R&B artist from Tampa, and plus the vibe of the song made it stand out. It was the one song that could appeal to a wide swath of the targeted demographic for the project. That demographic being older, Adult contemporary Hip-Hop music lovers. Although I felt strongly about other songs on the project, "Clean Up Nice" was just a vibe, it was relatable and it made people feel good. And that's what you want in a single.

5) The love your getting is very dope to see. How important is networking? And when I say networking budgets for services , swap outs, showing up to events.
I can tell you without a doubt that the 15 plus years of doing K-100 Radio and being at all kinds of music events in a media capacity, definitely helped build the network I have today. Although at the time I did not realize what I was building, I just knew that doing radio was fun. I actually had fun doing it and along the way I just kept building relationships with other artists and platform owners. Now some of those same people have platforms that are showing love and support to the music, based on the relationships that were built over the years I was doing all the groundwork for K-100 Radio. It really is a cool thing to see and receive because sometimes you feel like all of the hard work is for nothing. You see these celebrity artists start up a podcast and immediately start doing crazy numbers by leveraging their fan bases from their music, and as a platform it's like why even do it you know. But, I'm just doing what they did, leveraging my fanbase and network from K-100 Radio, to do it in reverse and boost my music. Crazy how that worked out..but I'll take it!.

6) What do you have planned for the Spring and Summer ?
Well, I'm going to continue to push "The Dangerous Unc" for sure. One thing I've learned for sure over all these years, is that when you drop a project as an indie artist you can NOT just give up on it after a few months. That's just not how it works. So, I'll still be doing K-100 Radio, and pushing The Dangerous Unc. Expect to see several visuals from the project. The album is full of songs that deserve videos, so I plan to shoot at least three if not more. At the same time, I'll be living my grown man life, enjoying my friends, family and traveling as much as I can. I'm past the point in life of wanting to be a "rap star". This album was a personal legacy project, so the fact that it's even coming out at all is what I really wanted to accomplish. Everything else, the radio play, the interviews, the shows... All of that is bonus stuff for me. I love and appreciate it, but It wasn't what I was striving for or thinking of as I was creating the album. I just didn't want to leave the game with my last project as an artist being over 15 years ago. I couldn't live with that. But since I decided to jump back into the game, I had to do it the right way. The professional way, and so here we are.

7) What's some advice do you have for someone who has took some time off from music and want to get back in it ?
If you are like me and you are up there in age, I highly suggest that you do the music that you want to do, and not try to do the music that will help you "blow up" in your mind. From what I can see and the feedback I've been getting, people want something different. They want older artists to put out the music that fits them. Alos, don't second guess yourself too much. Go with your gut and just do it. There are a ton of new tools at your disposal, it's not even as hard or costly to drop quality music. So get in the lab and get to work.
