What is a sound clash?
A sound clash is a musical competition where crew members from opposing sound systems pit their skills against each other. Sound clashes take place in a variety of venues, both indoors and outdoors, and primarily feature reggae and dancehall music. The object is to beat or "kill" their competitors.
Where did sound clash originate?
Kingston, Jamaica
SoundClash competitions originated in Kingston, Jamaica during the 1950s, where local reggae sound systems began to challenge each other to musical duels to excite and impress their audiences.
SoundClash Sundays presented by 5:54 Ent, is recreated to highlight a missing aspect of the reggae/dancehall culture in our region. Recreated being, years ago Stamina Sound was the first locally to present a weekly event in this format. Additionally, anyone with music and DJ knowledge can participate in this event. With a special twist to the traditional face-off structure, we're turning it into a friendly battle between two individuals, Pro DJ's or Amateur. Challenge each other over multiple rounds, with the audience deciding the winner.
