Ice Cube has paid tribute to Malcolm Jamal-Warner after The Cosby Show star's tragic death from drowning while on holiday in Costa Rica.
Speaking to TMZ, the rap legend said: "I look at him as an actor who brought a realness to television playing a great character, playing a great son on The Cosby Show. He did a few great things outside of The Cosby Show. It's tragic."
Even though Cube pivoted to writing, producing and directing films, he never worked with the late star who is best known for playing Theodore Huxtable as a teenager.
The 54-year-old drowned in Costa Rica after being dragged out to sea. The cause of death was determined as "asphyxia by submersion" and an accident.
A number of others also paid tribute to Jamal-Warner including Tracee Ellis Ross who worked with the actor on Reed Between the Lines.
She said: "I love you, Malcolm. First I met you as Theo with the rest of the world then you were my first TV husband. My heart is so so sad. What an actor and friend you were: warm, gentle, present, kind, thoughtful, deep, funny, elegant. You made the world a brighter place. Sending so much love to your family. I'm so sorry for this unimaginable loss."
Comedian Eddie Griffin also said: "My Heart is heavy today... For what the world lost was a Father a Son a Poet a Musician a Actor a Teacher a Writer a Director a Friend a Warrior that I had the pleasure of going to war with against the Hollywood machine and sometimes with each other because that's what Brothers do but the Love was and is always there."
Taraji P. Henson also paid tribute, writing: "Malcolm, we grew up with you. Thank you for the art, the wisdom, the grace you gave us!!!!! You left the world better than you found it. Rest easy, king!!!! Your legacy lives far beyond the screen."
Jamie Foxx said of Jamal-Warner's death: "Speechless on this one. rest in power, my brother," while Kevin Hart called the incident "heartbreaking".
Jamal-Warner is survived by a wife and daughter.
