Jennie Makes Historic Solo Debut at Sold Out ComplexCon Hong Kong

HONG KONG - K-pop artist Jennie closed out two days of concerts at the third annual ComplexCon Hong Kong, a fashion and pop-culture exhibition and marketplace, by bringing together fans from across her career.

Supporters of Blackpink, the group Jennie is best known for, joined fans of her solo work, particularly those drawn to her "Jennie Ruby Jane" persona, introduced for her 2025 debut solo album, "Ruby." The sold-out audience was engaged throughout the performance, which came only two months after Blackpink concluded its Deadline Tour at Hong Kong's Kai Tak Stadium.

Jennie took the stage at 9:45 p.m. and performed a 10-song, 30-minute set that focused heavily on music from "Ruby." The night marked several milestones: It was Jennie's first solo performance in China and she became the first female headliner for Complex Live.

Known for her choreography-driven R&B style that incorporates hip-hop and club influences, Jennie opened with "Mantra," accompanied by a group of dancers. She followed with songs including "Love Hangover" and "With the IE (Way Up)." During her performance of "Start a War," Jennie took the spotlight alone, and for "Seoul City," she wore a mini veil as a tribute to her appearance at the 2025 Melon Music Awards.

The set continued with "ExtraL" and a solo rendition of "Handlebars," leading to the live debut of "Dracula," which featured a dramatic black coat costume. The performance included "Damn Right," where runway-inspired choreography was prominent, and concluded with "Like Jennie," during which she wore Gentle Monster sunglasses.

Bonnie Chan Woo, CEO of Complex China, said in a statement that Jennie's performance was notable for its creativity and the inclusion of new elements in choreography and staging. "Her presence in Hong Kong, even a year after her solo album release, meant so much," Chan Woo said.

ComplexCon, an offshoot of the U.S.-based event that has been held in Long Beach, Las Vegas and Chicago, made its Hong Kong debut in 2024. Attendance and sales figures for 2026 have not yet been released, but organizers expect records to be broken, partly due to Jennie's appearance and the influence of this year's artistic director, Kasing Lung, a Hong Kong-born Belgian artist and illustrator.

The event also featured special items from the Virgil Abloh Archive, which includes more than 20,000 objects from the designer's career, attracting significant interest. Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF performed on the Pigeons & Planes Stage.

Over its three-year history, ComplexCon's concert series has brought notable acts to China, including 21 Savage and Quavo. In 2025, it received international attention as the site of NewJeans' final show before the group disbanded.

This year's lineup also included rapper Yeat, making his China debut, as well as performances by Jay Park and ALLDAYPROJECT.

Jennie is scheduled to perform at the Governors Ball music festival in New York on June 7.
