DeAndre Hopkins Reveals The Quarterback He Wants To Play For

The DeAndre Hopkins saga has been a sight to behold. First, there was the bizarre trade in which the Houston Texan traded Hopkins and a 2020 fourth for David Johnson, a 2020 second, and a 2021 fourth. Johnson played just two seasons in Houston before joining the Saints as a practice squad signee. The second-round pick became Ross Blacklock, who the Texans traded last season. Meanwhile, they traded away the fourth-round pick a day later for scraps.

But going back to Hopkins, he hasn't exactly been a star in Arizona. He spent most of the 2021 season injured before being suspended by the league for PED use, causing him to miss the first six games of the 2022 season. Along with that, rumors start to swirl that Hopkins wanted out of Arizona, with speculation pointing toward a draft-day move to the Ravens. That didn't happen and at the time of writing, Hopkin remains a Cardinal.

Hopkins Shares His Love for Jalen Hurts

Appearing on the I AM ATHLETE podcast, a move that meant he missed the first day of team OTAs, Hopkins made it very clear who he'd love to be catching passes from. He first mentioned Josh Allen, as the Buffalo Bills have become the new favorite destination for Hopkins. The Bills would likely love to have Hopkins as a downfield threat. However, there was another quarterback that he mentioned soon after.

"Jalen Hurts. Man, he's a Houston kid, he a dog," Hopkins said of the Eagles' signal caller. However, Hopkins' answers revealed a lot about where his head is at. He didn't just name two young, elite quarterbacks - he named two bona fide title contenders. While Hopkins has publicly pushed back against the idea that he wants to be traded, his answers were very telling. He didn't name his own quarterback, Kyler Murray. Despite it being fair to argue that perhaps Murray could be seen as an answer that doesn't need to be given, it could also point to Hopkins' desire to have a change of scenery and have the chance to push for a title, instead of helping slowly rebuild a team.
