Pop star Lil Nas X seemingly feels slighted by his colleagues Beyoncé and Shaboozey's success on Billboard's country charts.

During a recent interview, the "Montero" artist opened up about wishing his attempt into the historically stringent genre was as well received as his fellow musicians have been.

Lil Nas X

Reportedly Lil Nas X, real name Montero Lamar Hill, 25, shared that while he's happy for superstar songstress Beyoncé and her recent album collaborator Shaboozey both achieving #1 feats on the country charts, he does feel conflicted due to his own country single "Old Town Road" getting the opposite treatment. He stated:

"I wish this would have happened for me...I wasn't even able to experience this."

If you recall, Lil Nas X's 2019 single, which would eventually get a remix from country star Billy Ray Cyrus, was removed from Billboard's country charts, with the music organization claiming the song:

"[did] not embrace enough elements of today's country music to chart in its current form,"

Many of the musician's supporters criticized the decision and accused country fans of attempting to drive Nas X out because of his race. Beyoncé herself (seemingly) made a similar claim ahead of the release of her critically acclaimed Cowboy Carter, writing in an Instagram post:

"This album has been over five years in the making. It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed...and it was very clear that I wasn't. But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive."

She added:

"The criticisms I faced when I first entered this genre forced me to propel past the limitations that were put on me."

Despite the initial and continued pushback, Beyoncé's album still broke multiple records on the country charts, including making her the first Black woman to have a #1 album and a #1 single with "Texas Hold 'Em." Likewise, rising country star Shaboozey, featured throughout Beyoncé's latest country-centered project, earned a #1 hit with his single "A Bar Song (Tipsy)."

Although Nas X's song was removed from the country charts, the single went on to spend 19 straight weeks at #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. When asked if he'd consider getting into the genre once again, Nas X reportedly shared that he's experimented with country sounds over the years but noted nothing seemed worth pursuing. He added:

"I want to feel connected to it and not force it."
