'Scary Movie' Franchise Set To Be Rebooted

A fan-favorite comedic film is set to be revived.

According to reports, the "Scary Movie" franchise is in the process of being rebooted. As you may already know, the concept for the comedy project comes from the Wayans family - Keenen Ivory Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Marlon Wayans. The parody movies poke fun at popular 90s and early 2000s horror films. The Wayans are the masterminds behind the first and second films, which premiered in the summer of 2000 and 2001, respectively. However, it's said by the third film, "Scary Movie 3" the talented family was no longer associated with the project. The 5th and most recent installment in the "Scary Movie" universe was released in 2013.

Reportedly, the upcoming installment will start production this fall and will hit the big screen sometime next year. Paramount Pictures is teaming up with "Fast & Furious" mega-producer Neal H. Moritz to bring the project to life. At the time of this report, it doesn't seem that the Wayans have addressed the reboot. However, during a 2021 interview with Kevin Hart, Marlon Wayans spoke on how the film series was "snatched" from his family. Explaining why they separated from something they created, he shared,

"We didn't walk away from a franchise. They didn't want to make our deal, and they snatched it."

He continued,

"We never walked away from our franchise that we created. It was taken and us being the creatives that we are were like, 'Alright, bet. F*ck you, now watch what I create.'"

Warning that they might take legal action for what happened, Marlon Wayans added,

"We probably should sue for hundreds of millions of dollars because they probably owe us a sh*tload of money. And maybe one day we will. But we didn't walk away from our franchise. Them n*gg*s took it."

Speaking on how they learned they were pushed out of the popular franchise, he later said,

"The second one they rushed us into, and by the third one, they didn't want to pay the money, so they snatched it. We found out on Christmas that they hired somebody else to go do it."
