Its been a decade since the passing of legendary singer Whitney Houston, and her friend Tyler Perry has a suggestion as to what might've led to her untimely death.

During a recent episode of Peacock's "Hart to Heart," billionaire filmmaker Tyler Perry, 52, caught up with comedian Kevin Hart and discussed Black representation in the entertainment industry.

The famed actor mentioned musical artist Whitney Houston and seemingly suggested that the Black community played a part in the personal issues she faced, which led to her downfall.

On the talk show, Tyler Perry said that he believes that the late singer would still be alive if the public didn't force her to be someone she wasn't. He said,

"When I think about somebody who I love dearly is Whitney, I did all I could to try and help her, man. Whitney Houston. She-I believe she still would have been alive today had we not tried to make her into something she wasn't."

As an example, Perry referenced the 1989 Soul Train Awards, where Whitney Houston was booed by audience members who felt the then-two-time Grammy Award-winner was too pop and didn't make soulful music. He continued,

"Her being booed at the Soul Train Awards was one of the worst things that could have happened to her in her life. People saying she's 'white' or she's this or she's that, made her want to show...she came to this industry very young, but it made her want to show that she was something different."

The director/screenwriter noted that if Houston focused solely on her talents, she would've instead stayed the course to become better. He added,

"Instead of just realizing, let me keep my eye on this-she's got the best voice in the world-if she had kept her eye on that, none of this other stuff would have mattered."

Houston, nicknamed "The Voice" as one of the best-selling artists of all time, passed away at a Beverly Hills hotel on February 11, 2012, from an accidental drowning caused by heart disease and cocaine use.
