Clark County Woman Charged with Animal Cruelty With 27 Cats Found Dead In Her Home

A woman from Clark County has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities found 48 cats in her home, most of which were deceased. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Elisabeth Convington's residence contained 27 dead cats and 21 living but ill cats. The living cats suffered from issues such as bacterial infections, matted fur, and malnutrition.

The conditions inside the home were dire, with no clean water available for the cats and the interior covered in filth and feces. The smell was so overpowering that officers had to wear protective gear and masks during their investigation.

Convington claimed she was involved in a catch-and-release program for cats but declined to provide further details without a lawyer. She was arrested on August 6 and is facing a felony charge for allegedly torturing, maiming, or killing cats, along with four misdemeanor charges.

The investigation began after Clark County Animal Protection Services received a complaint in April about Convington's home being overwhelmed with feral cats. A warning was issued regarding the excessive number of cats. A second complaint in July led to a follow-up visit, where officers noted the strong smell of ammonia and signs of neglect. This prompted the authorities to obtain a search warrant after failing to reach Convington, leading to the discovery of the dead and mistreated animals.
