Summerlin South Headed To Little League World Series In Williamsport, Pa

Garrett Gallegos delivered an outstanding performance on the mound, leading Summerlin South to a 6-3 victory over Utah in the championship game of the Little League Mountain Region tournament. By striking out nine batters and allowing only three hits over four innings, Gallegos played a pivotal role in securing the win that advanced the Nevada team to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Summerlin South coach TJ Fechser expressed pride in the team's journey, highlighting the players' awareness that this marks their final Little League season. Gallegos, determined to make an impact, confidently took the mound with the aim of shutting down the opposing team, and his effort paid off.
In the game, both teams had opportunities early on but failed to capitalize in the first inning. Summerlin South eventually broke through with a methodical approach, building a 3-0 lead by the third inning. Key contributions came from players like Dustin Greusel, Brooks Fechser, and Cache Malan, who helped piece together the team's score. Ethan Robertson's consistent hitting, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, also significantly bolstered the team's offense.
The fourth inning saw Nevada extend their lead to 6-0, with singles from Cutter Ricafort and Jayden Lee, and an RBI double by Banks Mossley. Although Utah's Benson Gunn hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning, closing the gap, Robertson took over pitching duties and quickly secured the victory.
Looking ahead, Summerlin South will face Clarendon Hills, Illinois, the Great Lakes Region champion, in their opening game of the Little League World Series. Having outscored opponents 45-15 in the regional tournament, Summerlin South aims to become the first Nevada team to win a championship at the Series.
