Migrants in Tears as Trump Administration Immediately cancels all CBP One Appointments Following Swe

Migrants waiting in #Mexico for entry into the #UnitedStates through the Biden administration's #CBPOne app, including thousands of #Haitians, were left devastated Monday as their scheduled appointments were abruptly canceled upon President Trump's return to office.

At precisely noon, coinciding with Trump's swearing in CBP One went offline, according to an announcement from Customs and Border Protection. The shutdown marks one of Trump's first actions in his aggressive immigration overhaul. Since its launch in January 2023, CBP One has facilitated the legal entry of over 900,000 migrants, with at least 43,000 crossing into the U.S. each month under the Biden administration.

Many Haitians fleeing economic turmoil, gang violence, and political instability had relied on the app as a safe and legal pathway into the U.S. Footage from a #WashingtonPost reporter in Juarez, Mexico, captured heartbreaking scenes of migrants in tears at the U.S. border gates after learning their appointments had been canceled.

Many had waited months for the opportunity to enter legally. Among them are thousands of Haitian families who have been stranded in Mexico, facing discrimination, unsafe conditions, and a lack of resources while seeking asylum. According to CBS News, an estimated 270,000 migrants had been waiting at the Mexican border, hoping to secure entry before Trump's inauguration.

Trump's immediate termination of CBP One is expected to face legal challenges. U.S. asylum laws still require migrants to be processed at official ports of entry, a function the app previously streamlined. During his inaugural address, #Trump declared the border crisis a "national emergency" and announced plans to deploy U.S. troops to the region to restore order. He also labeled the migrant gangs Tren de Aragua and MS-13 as terrorist organizations, reinforcing his administration's hardline stance on immigration. With CBP One now defunct, thousands of Haitian and other asylum seekers are left stranded, their future in jeopardy.
