Joan Jett Cancels September Concerts After Surgery

Joan Jett has canceled two concerts scheduled for September after undergoing surgery for a recent injury.

A statement posted Wednesday, Aug. 5, on her social media said Jett had orthopedic surgery to treat a fractured vertebra. She will not perform at her scheduled shows in Costa Mesa, California, on Sept. 5, or in Louisville, Kentucky, on Sept. 24.

"Following a recent injury, Joan Jett has undergone orthopedic surgery on a fractured vertebra and will begin the necessary healing process," the statement read. "In close consultation with her doctors, Joan will not be able to perform at her forthcoming September scheduled shows."

The statement said Jett "hates to disappoint fans" but will spend the time focusing on physical therapy and recovery. She plans to return to performing after she heals.

Jett, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, started her year with concerts in New Zealand, followed by a Las Vegas residency and festival appearances at BeachLife and BottleRock in California. She has since played shows overseas, including the Sweden Rock Festival and a concert with My Chemical Romance at Wembley Stadium in July. Her most recent show was July 10 in Belgium.

Jett was scheduled to play the Bourbon & Beyond Festival in Louisville. There are no further concerts currently scheduled for Jett and her band, the Blackhearts.
