Linkin Park Returns to the Stage in New Documentary Exploring Their Comeback and Evolution

Linkin Park will tell its comeback story in a new documentary, "Unshatter," directed by band member Joe Hahn. The film follows the band's return to the stage after the 2017 death of vocalist Chester Bennington and a seven-year hiatus.

The band announced Tuesday that "Unshatter" will debut in theaters worldwide starting Sept. 30. The documentary chronicles the period leading up to the release of Linkin Park's 2024 album "From Zero" and their performance in S o Paulo, Brazil.

Linkin Park rose to prominence in the early 2000s, earning multiple No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart and dozens of entries on the Billboard Hot 100. "Unshatter" blends behind-the-scenes footage, live performances, archival clips and new interviews with band members and fans. The film offers a close look at the band's creative process and explores their efforts to rebuild following Bennington's death.

The documentary also highlights the arrival of vocalist Emily Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittain, whose addition marked the start of a new chapter for the group.

Before the film's release, the band will drop "Unshatter Film Soundtrack (Live in S o Paulo)" on Sept. 25. The live album will feature performances from across the band's career, including songs not featured in the documentary. A live version of "Somewhere I Belong" is available now, and fans can pre-order the soundtrack.

Hahn said in a statement that the film began as a project to document one concert but quickly expanded as the band's story unfolded.

"We kept realizing there was a story unfolding in real time as we figured out what the future of Linkin Park would look like," Hahn said.

He said he aimed to show the uncertainty the band faced during its comeback, presenting the events as they happened rather than with hindsight. Hahn described the film as a tribute to the band's fans and hopes it will give longtime supporters a deeper understanding of their struggles while introducing new listeners to the group's evolution.

"Unshatter" will open in select theaters on Sept. 30, with additional screenings planned in more cities worldwide.
