Paul McCartney Surprises Beatles Fans on Liverpool Magical Mystery Tour

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) - Liverpool's Magical Mystery Tour, a popular attraction for Beatles fans, got an unexpected boost from Sir Paul McCartney.

On July 20, McCartney made a surprise appearance during the daily tour. Passengers on the Magical Mystery bus spotted the former Beatles bassist at a traffic light. McCartney waved to fans before revealing he was on a FaceTime call with former bandmate Ringo Starr.

"It was surreal," tour guide and driver Neal Morton told the BBC. "I had pulled up at the traffic lights on Hope Street when who should I see - Sir Paul with Ringo on FaceTime. He waved to us, and everybody took photos. The passengers could not believe it."

McCartney was in Liverpool ahead of a presentation to actor Stephen Graham at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, which McCartney co-founded. He often attends graduation ceremonies for students at the school.

The Magical Mystery Tour, named after the Beatles' 1967 album, takes visitors to locations tied to the band's history. Stops include the Beatles' childhood homes, Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane, and the Cavern Club.

The appearance follows a recent collaboration between McCartney and Starr on McCartney's latest album, "The Boys of Dungeon Lane," released in May.
