Neal Schon Moves Forward With 'Journey Beyond' Trademark Application

Neal Schon, co-founder of Journey, is moving ahead with plans for a new group called Journey Beyond, according to recent filings with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Schon's trademark application, published in the federal Trademarks Official Gazette, lists "live performances by a musical group" as a primary use for the Journey Beyond name. The application was also updated to include the phrase "featuring music" for both physical and digital music releases. It remains unclear who else might perform or record under the Journey Beyond name.
Schon has been making these moves as Journey continues its Final Frontier Tour, and the band's future remains uncertain. Beyond the trademark filings, Schon has shared few details publicly, aside from posting an image bearing the Journey Beyond name and using the phrase as a hashtag on social media. When asked by Rolling Stone if Journey would evolve into Journey Beyond, Schon responded, "Well, who knows? Nothing is set in stone right now until I actually get there."
Speculation about Schon's intentions increased after he made several pre-tour appearances with Journey drummer Deen Castronovo, bassist Todd Jensen and keyboardist Jason Derlatka.
The trademark application also covers merchandise such as shirts, sweatshirts, hats and socks, later clarifying that all items would relate to a musical band. Schon's application faced a brief challenge but is proceeding.
Meanwhile, former Journey frontman Steve Perry addressed persistent reunion rumors, issuing a statement on social media: "While I'm always grateful for the love people still have for Journey, the rumors about me rejoining the band are simply not true and I want to gently put them to rest."

Journey has continued without Perry, with Arnel Pineda becoming the group's longest-tenured lead singer. The band has released three studio albums with Pineda, including the 2008 platinum-selling album "Revelation."
