Rock Legends Honor Ozzy Osbourne with Powerful Grammy Tribute Performance

A group of renowned rock musicians paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne during the 68th annual Grammy Awards.

The "in memoriam" segment began with country singer Reba McEntire performing her song "Trailblazer" as images of late musicians appeared on screen. As McEntire finished, a large image of Osbourne was displayed, leading into a tribute performance in his honor.

Slash and Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses were joined by guitarist and producer Andrew Watt, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and singer Post Malone. The group performed a rendition of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs," featuring pyrotechnics and a dramatic finale with smashed instruments.

Osbourne's family members-wife Sharon, daughter Kelly and son Jack-were in the audience and appeared emotional during the tribute, at times in tears and later cheering at its conclusion.

All of the performers had previously collaborated with Osbourne. Watt produced Osbourne's last two albums, "Ordinary Man" (2020) and "Patient Number 9" (2022). McKagan and Smith contributed to both albums, while Slash and Malone appeared on "Ordinary Man." With the exception of Malone, the musicians also took part in last year's "Back to the Beginning" concert in Birmingham, England, which celebrated Black Sabbath and Osbourne's career. Osbourne died days after the event.

Osbourne won five Grammy Awards from 12 nominations during his career. He received his first Grammy in 1994 for Best Metal Performance with "I Don't Want to Change the World." His most recent wins came in 2023, when "Patient Number 9" won Best Rock Album and "Degradation Rules" was named Best Rock Song.
