SEATTLE (AP) - Soundgarden will perform at the Seattle Seahawks' NFC West season home opener at Lumen Field on Sept. 9, with Pretty Reckless singer Taylor Momsen as guest vocalist during halftime. The Seahawks will face the New England Patriots in a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX.
Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready will play the national anthem before the game on behalf of the Washington Innocence Project. Momsen, who has joined Soundgarden on several occasions since the death of Chris Cornell in 2017, last performed with the band at their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in November, singing "Rusty Cage" and "Black Hole Sun." She also appeared with the group during the "I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell" concert in Los Angeles in 2019.
A promotional photo released for the halftime show features guitarist Kim Thayil, drummer Matt Cameron, bassist Ben Shepherd, Momsen, and McCready.
The Seahawks also announced a pregame Salute 250 Kickoff Concert featuring Luke Bryan, scheduled for 2:30 p.m. PT, three hours before kickoff.
Soundgarden recently shared that they are mixing an album with the final songs recorded with Cornell. Cameron said the band is working with producer Terry Date on an eight-track LP, building on demos from 2013 to 2016 before the band's last tour with Cornell in 2017.
