FlightFactor has provided a fresh look at its upcoming Boeing 787 Dreamliner for X-Plane 12, releasing a new collection of work-in-progress images from the long-awaited aircraft project.
The latest screenshots were shared by FlightFactor on July 10 and show continued visual progress on the Dreamliner as development moves forward. The aircraft remains under active construction, with the team currently concentrating heavily on the 787's cockpit avionics and interior modeling.
Work Continues on the Dreamliner's Avionics
According to a recent development interview, FlightFactor is making progress on the aircraft but faces a substantial workload due to the complexity of the real-world Boeing 787.
The team is currently implementing the Dreamliner's advanced cockpit avionics while also developing the passenger cabin. New seat models and interior artwork are already beginning to take shape.
FlightFactor has developed a reputation within the X-Plane community for creating deeply simulated airliners, including its Boeing 757, 767 and the newer Boeing 777 V2. Its aircraft emphasize detailed systems modeling, and FlightFactor says its professional Boeing series is licensed by Boeing and tested with assistance from real-world pilots and engineers.
Not Just a Reworked 777
Although the Boeing 787 project can borrow some elements from FlightFactor's Boeing 777 V2 Ultimate, the developer says the Dreamliner is far from a simple conversion.
Certain existing features, particularly ground-service equipment functions, may be adapted from the 777. However, the two aircraft use significantly different systems and avionics. As a result, much of the 787 requires entirely new programming rather than recycled code from FlightFactor's previous products.
That distinction is important for virtual pilots expecting a detailed Dreamliner simulation. The real-world 787 features an advanced electrical architecture, large-format cockpit displays and aircraft systems that differ considerably from earlier Boeing designs.
A Long-Awaited X-Plane Aircraft
FlightFactor's Boeing 787 project has been known to the X-Plane community for several years, with the developer sharing occasional previews as work has progressed.
The latest images provide reassurance that the project remains active and is being developed specifically for X-Plane 12. However, FlightFactor has not announced a release date, pricing information or which 787 variant will be included first.
For now, the Dreamliner remains firmly inside the development hangar, surrounded by code, cockpit displays and what is presumably an industrial-sized coffee machine.
Growing Competition in the Dreamliner Market
The Boeing 787 continues to attract considerable attention from flight-simulation developers. Several Dreamliner projects are either available or under development across X-Plane and Microsoft Flight Simulator.
For X-Plane 12 users, FlightFactor's aircraft could become one of the platform's most detailed modern widebody simulations if the finished product follows the same systems-focused approach as the company's Boeing 777 V2.
The newly released screenshots do not reveal when the aircraft may be ready for customers, but they offer another promising glimpse at a project many X-Plane pilots have been watching for years.
Sky Blue Radio will continue following the FlightFactor Boeing 787 as additional development details, previews and release information become available.
