Local Legend 24 Brings Australia's CAC Boomerang to Microsoft Flight Simulator

Microsoft Flight Simulator's latest Local Legend has arrived, and this one comes spinning back from Australian aviation history with a growl, a roundel, and a name that absolutely refuses to stay away.
Local Legend 24: The CAC Boomerang is now available in the Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace. Released on May 5, 2026, the aircraft joins the sim alongside World Update 21: Australia, making it a fitting companion for pilots ready to explore the continent from the cockpit of a homegrown World War II fighter.
The CAC Boomerang holds a special place in aviation history as the only fighter aircraft designed and manufactured entirely in Australia. Built by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation, the Boomerang was a single-seat, single-engine, multi-role fighter developed during World War II. Microsoft's announcement highlights the aircraft as a uniquely Australian machine, and one that fits perfectly into the simulator's Local Legend series.
For this release, Microsoft partnered with iniBuilds, the developer behind the virtual version of the Boomerang. Microsoft had previously announced in April that the aircraft would accompany the Australia World Update, noting that the Boomerang was the first combat aircraft designed and manufactured in Australia.
The timing is no accident. With World Update 21: Australia refreshing scenery across the country, the Boomerang gives sim pilots a historically appropriate aircraft for low-and-slow exploration, vintage warbird flights, and those wonderfully dramatic Outback passes where the horizon looks like it was painted with hot copper.
Microsoft also featured the CAC Boomerang in its May 7 weekly briefing, listing it alongside the Australia update, marketplace releases, and a community fly-in over the Australian Outback. The aircraft was also suggested as an optional payware add-on for the official Community Fly-In Friday event.
The Boomerang is available now through the Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace as Local Legend 24. As with other Local Legend aircraft, it is designed to spotlight historically significant airplanes connected to regions featured in major world updates.
For sim pilots who enjoy vintage aircraft, Australian aviation, or simply want something with a little radial-engine attitude, the CAC Boomerang looks like a worthy addition to the hangar. It may not have the fame of a Spitfire or Mustang, but that is part of the charm. This is the scrappy Australian fighter with a name that practically promises a return trip.
