Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is giving Career Mode pilots something new to chase.
In a forum post published on April 14, 2026, Microsoft announced that VTOL Certification is now available within Career Mode for players enrolled in the Sim Update 5 Beta. Microsoft also noted that the feature is not included in Sim Update 4 and will roll out to all players once Sim Update 5 is officially released.
That may sound like a small addition on paper, but it points to a bigger idea: Microsoft continues to expand Career Mode beyond traditional fixed-wing flying. Adding VTOL certification opens the door for more specialized training paths and gives simmers another way to build progress through the sim's structured pilot journey.
It also arrives as anticipation builds around Sim Update 5, which Microsoft said in its April 9 Weekly Briefing is still targeting a release later this month. According to the team, SU5 is expected to include hundreds of bug fixes and improvements, alongside features like PSVR2 support for PlayStation 5 users.
For players who enjoy Career Mode, the VTOL addition gives the beta another reason to watch closely. Whether this is the first step toward broader powered-lift mission content or simply a new certification path, it shows that Microsoft is still adding fresh layers to the MSFS 2024 experience.
