Synaptic A220 Set for Official Developer Showcase on July 15

Synaptic A220 Set for Official Developer Showcase on July 15

One of the most anticipated aircraft projects in Microsoft Flight Simulator is preparing to take center stage.

Synaptic Simulations and iniBuilds have announced an official developer deep-dive livestream for their upcoming Airbus A220. The showcase is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 1900 UTC, which is 1:00 PM Mountain Time. The presentation will be broadcast through the official Microsoft Flight Simulator Twitch channel.

The livestream is expected to provide a detailed look at the aircraft's systems, avionics, flight characteristics and overall development progress. It should also give flight-simulation fans their clearest look yet at how close the aircraft may be to release.

A Project Years in the Making

The Synaptic A220 began as an ambitious community-developed project before evolving into a commercial partnership with iniBuilds. The collaboration has allowed the team to expand the aircraft's systems depth, visual modeling, sound package and flight dynamics.

Recent development updates have highlighted a completely reworked fly-by-wire system, custom engine modeling, lateral and vertical flight guidance, autopilot and autoland functionality. The developers have also created detailed electrical, hydraulic, bleed-air and radio systems, along with a flight-management system rebuilt from the ground up.

iniBuilds has contributed to several major portions of the project, including 3D asset integration, texturing, flight modeling, sound development and the aircraft's electronic flight bag.

Coming to MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024

The Synaptic A220 is planned for release on both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

The initial package will feature the larger A220-300, followed later by the shorter A220-100 as a free update. The aircraft is expected to be available through both the iniBuilds Store and the Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace. No firm release date or pricing has been announced.

During FlightSimExpo 2026, attendees were able to fly development builds of the aircraft. Synaptic reported that only five new issues were discovered during the three-day event, two of which were corrected during the show. The team also reported that the demonstration builds experienced no crashes during the event.

Why the A220 Matters

Originally developed by Bombardier as the C Series, the Airbus A220 was designed specifically for the 100-to-160-seat market. The real aircraft features a modern fly-by-wire cockpit, advanced materials and Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan engines.

The A220-100 can carry approximately 100 to 135 passengers, while the larger A220-300 can accommodate as many as 160 passengers, depending on airline configuration. Airbus lists a maximum range of approximately 3,600 nautical miles for the smaller variant and 3,450 nautical miles for the A220-300.

Its combination of regional-aircraft efficiency and mainline-airliner capabilities has made the A220 a popular choice with carriers including Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Air Canada, Air France, airBaltic and Breeze Airways.

The Next Big MSFS Airliner?

Expectations surrounding the Synaptic A220 have continued to climb as development progresses. With detailed systems, custom avionics and support for both current Microsoft Flight Simulator platforms, the aircraft could become one of the most significant commercial-airliner releases of the year.

The July 15 showcase should provide a much clearer picture of what virtual pilots can expect when the A220 finally taxis onto the Microsoft Flight Simulator ramp.

Sky Blue Radio will continue following the project as additional release and pricing information becomes available.
