Key Stations and Movements 

  • WDIA (Memphis): The first radio station to feature all-Black programming, pioneering the "Negro appeal" format.
  • WERD (Atlanta): Known as the first Black-owned radio station in the U.S..
  • Civil Rights Voices: Many DJs were deeply involved in the Civil Rights movement, using their airwaves to support, inform, and organize, including Tall Paul White (WEDR) and others.
