Britney Spears Arrested for DUI

Pop superstar Britney Spears is making headlines after being arrested in Southern California on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI).

According to authorities, the incident happened Wednesday night, March 4, in Ventura County, California. Police received reports of a black BMW being driven erratically along U.S. 101 near Newbury Park, prompting officers from the California Highway Patrol to pull the vehicle over.

Spears was reportedly the only person inside the vehicle when officers stopped the car. After performing field sobriety tests and observing signs of impairment, police took the singer into custody on suspicion of DUI involving alcohol and possibly drugs.

The pop star was booked into the Ventura County jail around 3 a.m. before being released early Thursday morning under a "cite and release" procedure. Her vehicle was impounded and chemical tests were taken as part of the ongoing investigation.
