Preliminary 3.1 earthquake strikes near Berkeley, USGS says, hour before quake drill

Did you feel it? A preliminary magnitude 3.1 earthquake struck in Berkeley just east of the Cal campus Thursday morning, according to USGS. It happened at 9:23 a.m., less than an hour before the Great California Shake Out earthquake drill.
