U.S. House advances stopgap bill intended to avert a partial government shutdown

The Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday cleared the way for a floor vote this week on a stopgap funding measure to avert a partial federal government shutdown in two weeks, while also shortening a ban on votes to overturn U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs.
