Your Station... Your Voice! 89.3 Broadcasts 24 Hours a day at 100,000 Watts. WRFG provides a voice for those who have been traditionally denied access to the broadcast media and the involvement of a broad base of community elements to guarantee that access. In the utilization of the Foundation's facilities and in its programs the following communities will receive first priority: 1. Those who continue to be denied free and open access to the broadcast media, 2. Those who suffer oppression or exploitation based upon class, race, sex, age or creed or sexual orientation. Since going on the air in 1973, WRFG has filled a void on the Atlanta airwaves. WRFG was the first Atlanta radio station since the 1950s to feature such regional musical forms as blues, bluegrass and jazz. Reflecting Atlanta's emergence as an "international city", it pioneered programming oriented toward the area's growing Latin, African, Asian and Caribbean communities. WRFG was the first station to carry live broadcasts from the Arts Festival of Atlanta and the Georgia Grassroots Festival. WRFG's achievements extend beyond music alone. WRFG produced live broadcasts of speakers at the Hungry Club, Atlanta's famous weekly interracial forum. It was the first and only radio station to air the work of local poets, playwrights and authors on a regular basis. WRFG has also initiated programming directed toward Atlanta's neighborhoods, the disabled, alternative lifestyles, and other special audiences. Its in-depth coverage of event such as the 1987 rebellion at the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary has received widespread acclaim. WRFG's documentaries merit special attention. Between 1977 and 1980, WRFG produced the 50-part "Living Atlanta!' series on Atlanta's history. "Living Atlanta!' won national awards and established a tradition of documentary excellence at WRFG. In the fall of 1989, the University of Georgia Press published a book based on this award-winning series.en-usoffice@wrfg.orghttp://www.wrfg.orgWRFG89.3wrfg893radiowrfgatlanta;stream.mp3WRFG 89.3 FMUULwn75nrbdn-l3MEQzr0QKQ00 In The Park by wrfg0, 24 Feb 2020 15:00 GMTBuy your tickets now at 155260Sharon,Wiggins,Americanablogs/2-2020/155260-sharon-wiggins-amer-s.jpgWRFG Spring Fund Drive by wrfg0, 23 Feb 2020 17:00 GMTYou can donate in the app and online at 155259WRFG,Fund,Driveblogs/2-2020/155259-wrfg-fund-drive-i--s.jpgWRFG's Summer Pledge Drive (July 8 - 17) by wrfg0, 8 Jul 2019 13:00 GMTPlease make your pledge of support in the app or online at 132618summer pledge drive, donationsblogs/7-2019/132618-summer-pledge-drive-s.jpgWRFG Presents Butterfly Tales by wrfg0, 19 Apr 2019 22:05 GMTSaturday, April 27 & Sunday, April 28 11AM - 6PM Inman Park Festival's Kid's Zone Directions: 126414butterfly tales, inman parkblogs/4-2019/126414-butterfly-tales-inm-s.jpgJumpin With Route 66 on Sunday, Apr 7 by wrfg0, 29 Mar 2019 21:21 GMTBlind Willie's Blues Club 828 N Highland Ave NE Atlanta, GA 30306 Directions: ,+Atlanta,+GA+30306/@33.7771269,-84.3548996,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x88f506a043242717:0x708b7d1e62b1b364!8m2!3d33.7771225!4d-84.3527056124723jumpin with route 66, blind willies blue clubblogs/3-2019/124723-jumpin-with-route--s.jpgWRFG 89.3 FM Spring Pledge Drive Starts TODAY by wrfg0, 4 Mar 2019 18:28 GMTPlease donate securely in the WRFG app or online at Ever Dollar Makes Us Stronger! Thanks for your support! 122616spring pledge drive, 2019blogs/3-2019/122616-spring-pledge-drive-s.jpgPlease Donate to WRFG This Holiday Season by wrfg0, 14 Dec 2018 21:41 GMTYou can easily donate in the WRFG app or online at Don't forget your donation is tax-deductible!116480donate, xmasblogs/12-2018/116480-donate-xmas-1585251-s.jpgWRFG Presents Global Gumbo (Dec 8 at 7p) by wrfg0, 30 Nov 2018 17:56 GMTDate & Time: Sat, Dec 8 from 7-11pm Cost: $15 Gallery 992 992 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd Atlanta, GA 30310 Directions: ,-84.4224129,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x88f50340817c1bed:0x5769f16673cc71b!8m2!3d33.737824!4d-84.4202189115890global gumbo, dj tabone, gallery 992blogs/11-2018/115890-global-gumbo-dj-tab-s.jpgWRFG Fall Pledge Drive Begin Oct 15 by wrfg0, 1 Oct 2018 02:42 GMTBegin on Oct 15th Ends on Nov 4th Your contribution can be made in several ways... 1) By calling: 404-523-3471 2) Online at 3) In the WRFG mobile app 114658fall pledge drive, supportblogs/9-2018/114658-fall-pledge-drive--s.jpgWRFG Summer Pledge Drive - July 9th - July 29th by wrfg0, 13 Jul 2018 02:00 GMTPlease make a pledge of support today! WRFG 89.3 FM is not your ordinary radio station. We are independent, non-commercial, working-class radio for the 99%. Based in Atlanta, Georgia (but streaming worldwide at and available on the WRFG and TuneIn apps for smartphones), our mission is to provide a platform for people and ideas that lack free and open access to the broadcast media, including those who suffer oppression and exploitation based on class, sex, race, age, creed, sexual orientation or immigrant status. WRFG has always relied for funding on our dedicated listeners, either through our on-air pledge drives or the various events we host each year. But, like so many of the workers and families who depend on us for news and information relevant to their lives, we, too, have been hit hard by today's economy. We need your help. For 42 years, WRFG 89.3 FM has been untouched by the hand of commercial greed, leaving us free to broadcast progressive news, information and handpicked quality music. Unlike most non-commercial radio stations, we are not owned by a college, church, or library. Instead, we are a non-profit governed by a diverse volunteer board of directors who reflect the communities we serve. There are only two paid staffers, and all of our programs are produced and hosted by volunteers. For more than 30 years, WRFG was fortunate to have free space on a broadcast tower for our antenna. That changed in 2009 when we were required to move by the Federal Communications Commission and had to begin paying for a tower location. Our annual expenses immediately increased by $70,000, and the rent has been going up every year since. That's why we're coming to you. It's been a struggle to keep up with this additional expense, and, as a result, we've accumulated some debt. We want to raise $100,000 to retire our debt and get ahead on the rent. This will help to stabilize the station's operations so that we can focus on what's really important: enhancing our on-air programming to better serve the needs of the community. Today's political environment favors large, conglomerate media owners over small, independent radio stations. WRFG 89.3 FM is one of the last unbought/unbossed stations in the country. For that reason, our survival and growth are more important now than ever - and not just for Atlanta. Free, independent radio is the lifeline for everyday people everywhere. Please, help keep independent media alive. We aired special programming around the execution of Troy Davis and the ten-year anniversary of the war in Afghanistan-We were at the forefront of the FCC de-regulation hearings and hosted a town hall forum here in Atlanta. And everyday you can tune in to 89.3 FM for news and knowledgeable perspectives on health and nutrition, the environment, peace and justice, gender issues, and the economy and the workplace. WRFG is also your station for a wonderfully diverse selection of hand-picked music. The best of Blues, Jazz, African, R&B, Americana, Caribbean, Celtic, Zydeco, Indian, Hip Hop, Latin - all chosen by program hosts who understand the musical tastes and needs of their listeners. No canned music here! Just as important, WRFG offers ideas on what each of us can do to create positive changes in our neighborhood, in our country, and in the world. That's because WRFG doesn't operate in a vacuum. We're an integral part of the community. In fact, just about all of our financial support comes from fellow community members like you - not from government or corporations. So unlike commercial radio stations that make their listeners endure hour after hour after hour of loud, obnoxious ads, WRFG offers pure listening pleasure. That's one reason why 40 years after we first began broadcasting, WRFG is still Atlanta's premier independent radio station. Support independent & non-commercial Media-Please help us continue being your first choice for information and music by making your tax-deductible donation today. You also can pledge online at or mail or bring your donation to WRFG at 1083 Austin Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30307. Thank you for your support.
