Carver 22 Washington 18 The Washington Bulldogs fell to 0-2 as they were defeated by Carver 22-18. Carver used this game as a bounce back after suffering a season opening loss to Carver Columbus the previous week. S Atlanta 26 Douglass 20 The South Atlanta Hornets rebounded from their opening week loss, after going 0-10 in 2013, by defeating Douglass 26-20. Waller was not the only star on the night as Deonta Hill and Christopher Seeaborn both chipped in with scores in the rout. The loss dropped the Astros to 1-9 while the Eagles boast a 6-4 record as they look forward to their first playoff appearance in school history. Grady 25, Lithonia 22 The Grady Grey Knights defeated Lithonia on Friday night 25-22 to improve to 8-2 and clinch a playoffs birth. Freshman Caylen Newton came on in relief of injured Senior quarterback Isaiah Jenkins, throwing 2 touchdown passes in the second half to propel the Knights in this back and forth contest. The win, the second in a row over Grady in as many years, clinched the sub region for the Panthers and they will play Marist next Friday for the 6AAAA Region championship. The Knights opened the scoring with a fumble return by Nigel Walton, but it was all Panthers after that. The Panthers were paced by power running from Charlie Patrick, timely passing by Jordan Holden and a stout defense. Patrick sealed the game in the 4th with a an impressive 50 yard run that broke the Knights back. Grady looks to rebound next week at home against Lithonia in a game that will determine playoff seeding. B.E.S.T. 20, Rockmart 0 The B.E.S.T. Eagles improved to 5-4 last night with their 20-0 win over Rockmart. Junior Deshawn Waller was again the offensive star taking his first carry for 80 yards and the score to open the game. The Eagles led 7-0 at the half but would have been up by an even wider margin had 2 of Waller's touchdown runs not been called back by penalties. Waller ended the game with 140 yards and 3 touchdowns on 9 carries. The Eagles defense pitched a shutout behind Rontavious Belcher (10 tackles, 1 int), Maleke Smith (10 tackles, 3 sacks) and Rickey Williams (7 tackles, 2 sacks). Randrecous Davis and Ayinde Russell added a couple more first half scores as the Raiders rushed out to a 27-8 halftime lead. The win pushed Mays to 6-2 , their second in a row. Senior Christopher Seaborn caught 4 balls for 76 yards and touchdown as well on Thursday. The defense was paced by Senior Rontavious Belcher, who had a 11 tackles to go with his rushing touchdown on the offensive side of the ball, Sophomore Wasonu Allen (6 sacks), and Senior Maleke Smith (13 tackles). The Eagles will continue their playoff push next week at Grady Stadium in the late game against Rockmart. Grady 41, South Atlanta 6 The Grady Grey Knights win streak hit 7 after a convincing win against South Atlanta, 41-6. The Grey Knights were again paced by Hakim Todd, Isiah Jenkins and Amyr Smith - each scoring in the romp. Bryce Harris added another touchdown to complete the scoring for the Grey Knights. The South Atlanta Hornets got on the board in the second quarter, returning a blocked punt for a touchdown. The loss kept the Hornets winless as they look for their first win next week against winless Therrell. Rockmart 28, Douglass 14 The Douglass Astros dropped to 1-7 on the season losing their region road contest at Rockmart 28-14. The loss was the 5th in a row for the Astros who look to rebound next week against region leader Callaway on Friday at Lakewood. Dunwoody 29, North Atlanta 0 North Atlanta fell to 0-8 on the season on Friday after losing to Dunwoody 29-0. The Warriors fell behind 22-0 by halftime, which included 2 defensive touchdowns by Dunwoody. Dunwoody added another defensive score in the second half to complete the scoring. Washington The Washginton Bulldogs were forced to forfeit their region game against the Carver Panthers on Friday after 15 players were suspended following a fight on Washington's campus Thursday night.
