"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." -Ben Franklin That has to be one of my favorite quotes and if it is true...well, God wanted us to be ELATED on Saturday night. It was the 2014 Brewer's Ball at the National Building Museum. The gorgeous location was filled with craft beers, silent auction items, delicious food, and beautiful people. Sure, it's great to have an excuse to try a bunch of different beers, but this event is so much more. It all benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The sold out event, live, and silent auction made this year a record breaking year! The event sold out this year and I would bet good money that it will continue to sell out in the years to come! Writing this blog gives me great joy....and such great sadness. It is in fact, one of the (if not THE) most bittersweet moments of my life. Since the age of 14 I have had a Kissing Book. The book that I write down all the boys I kissed along with a description of where/how it happened and a rating. If we've Made Out, you are in the book. Unless we made out during any of my Mexico trips or random vacations that *Alysa was present, then there is a chance you are listed as "Guy in the Red Shirt" or "Tall Curly Hair Guy" or even "Guy #4". It has never been a secret that I love a good Make-Out Session. Now that I am engaged to a wonderful man. The only man I will be making out with from now on is Jim (unless for some crazy reason I become a famous actress and have to make out with Bradley Cooper in a movie). Since there will be no more Random Make Outs...No more reasons to be called the "Make-Out Bandit"... There is no reason to keep one of my favorite shirts held up in my closet for sentimental reasons. This is a shirt that needs to be worn and appreciated. The shirt needs to be loved the way a fellow Make-Out Bandit will love it! It's time for me to pass this lovely piece of clothing on to someone that will wear it with pride the way I have for the past 10 years. It's an American Eagle Size Medium Shirt (Circa 2002ish) and still in Awesome Condition AND IT COULD BE YOURS! WIN MY "Make Out Bandit" T-Shirt Comment below and Tell Me Why You Deserve The Shirt? How You Will Give It The New Home It Deserves? Etc. I will pick a winner Wednesday March 12, 2014 at 3pm. *Alysa is my Best Friend and the person I have made some of my Best & Worst Decisions with...but not matter what, we always decided...and ALWAYS had a Story! Now she is my Maid Of Honor and the stories will continue...but now it will only be good decisions =)

A few weeks ago I saw a post on The Frisky about a Wine Tasting Kit from www.TastingRoom.com. You sign up for less than $10 and they send you 6 mini bottles of wine (red, white, or combination of both). The minute I read about this company my taste buds perked up, my mouth started watering, and my hand went directly for my credit card! A few days later my my tasting kit arrived! www.TastingRoom.com Last night...My boyfriend and I did the Tasting...and it was amazing! Brooke & Jim's Wine Ratings Cheat Sheet I wouldn't drink this if it was the last bottle of wine on the earth...who am I kidding if it was the last bottle I would absolutely drink it. I would drink it if it was the only option and it was free...or the wine I would drink and LOVE if I was blackout drunk. I would pay "house" or "happy hour" prices for it. DAMN That's good! I'd buy a glass...maybe even the bottle WINETASTIC! One bottle for me and another for you! This is our wine tasting journey... Wine 1- Axium Sauvignon Blanc 2012 California Jim- Did you smell it? Me- yea...what do you smell? Jim- Wine. Me- Me too. But it tastes delicious! I don't normally like white wines but I love this one! I want to drink this one outside on patio Jim- It's fruity. Tangy. I might even buy a glass Brooke's Rating-4 Jim's Rating-3 Wine 2- Finial Chardonnay 2011 SonomaCoast Me- Kind of buttery. I like this. Jim- Very Light. Me- BRrrdddaaaaditititti - The noise I made when Jim tried to take my glass before I finished my tasting! Obviously I like it enough to squeal when it is being taken away so I say 4! I want to drink this one in the summer but inside...in air conditioning. Brooke's Rating-4 Jim's Rating- 3 Wine 3-Voila Pinot Noir 2009 California Me- I love this too! Jim- (with judging eyes) Do you? I mean I would drink it...but...(few seconds pass) should I turn the oven on to reheat the pizza? We ordered pizza but had to finish the wine tasting before we ate...obviously pizza was more important than this particular wine for Jim Me- I like it. I would buy it...but it doesn't knock my socks off Brooke's Rating-3 Jim's Rating-2 Wine 4 Nebbiolo d'Alba No Clue 2011 Italy Brooke- this bottle is difficult...I mean the label. Still don't know what kind of wine it is. Jim- I don't either. Swirl it... Brooke- It smells really good. Doesn't tickle your nose hairs. It's Subtle. Same with the taste. I like. 4 For Sure! Maybe even a 4.5 Jim-Smells good....(sips once more dramatically) It's like the grapes are springing off of my tongue! (insert my eye roll here) I would buy it. So I'm gonna give it a 4 Brooke's Rating- 4.25 Jim's Rating- 4 Wine 5- Mystery wine...there are a lot of jumbled letters. 2011 California Brooke-It's got kind of a dry finish. You know...the (does the tongue against the roof of your mouth motion)...Love the taste but not the aftermath. 3.7... I wanna give it a 4 so bad but I can't. I wouldn't buy it BUT if you brought a bottle home I would drink it! Jim- Smells so good. I like it. That's...ahhh...really good. Brooke's Rating- 3.7 Jim's Rating- 4 Wine 6- Fortuna Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 Pasa Robles Me- Full of flavor....and it kind of tastes like bacon. Jim- ?? Me- I mean it's got that meaty...fatty..like do the thing where you make your taste go to your nose (I demonstrate what I mean) Jim- Oh... yea! I see what you mean. Me-Really really good. This is tough. Brooke's Rating-4.5 Jim's Rating-4 During the Tasting you log into your TastingRoom.com account and fill out which wines you like...from there they create a Profile for you. No surprise here...I am a Philosopher! Lessons Learned Never knew you were supposed to swirl with it on the table...not in the air. Neither one of us have good noses. We couldn't detect anything but the Wine smell during the sniff part. Most surprised by the first wine. I know I like Chardonnay when I drink white. I don't normally like Sauvignon Blanc because they are tart. But this was so good. Not only is this Tasting Kit fun, it's also a great date night activity. At the end of the day, if it's wine...and it comes in a STEM glass...I will drink anything (my rules change if it is in a stemless glass or any other container).

What I've Learned After Being Engaged For 12 Days

Well...it's almost been 2 weeks since Jim got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of our lives together (it makes me tear up to write this...tears of joy of course!). If you would have asked me one year ago if I thought I would be engaged today, I would've laughed in your face. It's not that I didn't believe in marriage or engagements, I just didn't think I would meet my person, REALIZE I met my person, and commit the rest of my life to him in less than 12 months. BUT I did...and I am so grateful I did. I am the happiest I have ever been. I have always said I would be lucky if I married a man like my father, and sure enough Jim has so many of the qualities that I admire in my dad. He is loyal, honest, stable (and we all know my crazy ass needs that), and he loves me (the way my dad loves my mom). With all of the mushy stuff out of the way (don't worry there will be more because I posted our Disney engagement photos below) THIS HAS BEEN THE MOST OVERWHELMING 12 DAYS OF MY LIFE! Definitely something I was not prepared for. Let me start by saying, I am so grateful and so thankful to all of the people that have taken the time to send their love and support. When something big like this happens, it's incredible to see how many others want to share in on the love and happiness. From my family and friends to the security guard at work and even the grocery store clerk that rang up my bridal magazines...everyone has sent congratulations and love...but with the congrats and the "I'm so happy for you" came the questions... "Do you have a date set?" "Where are you doing it?" "What are your Colors?" "Oh you know what that means...babies are next" Being a girl that has NEVER even thought about planning a wedding or what type of seating chart I will have...I was freaking out. Breathe Brooke Breathe I had to remind myself daily. I called my Maid of Honor and one of my Bridesmaids once in tears, once with frustration. I'm the worst bride ever! Not having answers to all of the questions, never even entertaining the questions until the last 10 days, made me feel like I wasn't worthy of a wedding (ok that's a little dramatic...but kind of true). After I took a minute and took a breath I had to realize that everyone else is just as excited as I am, and while the "wedding" isn't necessarily the biggest deal to me, being MARRIED to Jim is. I love him. When I was all wound up after a day of questions, I would see him and instantly feel a sense of calm come over me. Once I grasped that concept...wedding planning started moving along! We're thinking my hometown, Bakersfield, Ca, A September wedding (YES. this September...NO. I'm not pregnant and YES. I still don't want babies....look at me. I've gotten good at answering questions before they have even been asked), and a very unconventional backyard BBQ themed reception. There are a lot of things I don't know about this whole process and BIG step in my life, but here's what I do know- He's "THE ONE" My mom is THRILLED and has been a huge help coming up with ideas and concepts. My Aunt Mary Rita is handling my dress so it will be the most amazing dress of all times. It's going to be a day I will never...WE will never forget.
