The Soul of America Radio History

The Story and history of The Soul of America radio is one of vision, Hope and faith, Its about not giving up on God's vision planted within you. The Soul of America Radio is a vision given to its founder, Tony Stallings as a young child. As a child growing up in Selma, AL, He loved to read up on the way that eagles would "soar" high about the storms and glide effortlessly as they went to their destinations. Tony also watched his Dad, Jim Stallings, as he hosted "The Jim Stallings Show" at WHBB in Selma, AL. His show was one of the very FIRST radio shows in Selma that played music to both a white and Black audience blending a perfect mix of Pop, Rock, Funk and R&B. It was THIS mindset that inspired Tony to envision himself one day hosting a radio show. As Tony grew his interest seemed to migrate towards the growing popularity of "Talk Radio". He stayed up many nights (Sometimes ALL night) listening to late night Talk Radio. Finally in May of 2011, Tony joined forces with his youngest son Chris and started a Blog Talk Radio show for a newly formed Face book group that he named, "The Soul of Selma". Tony hosted the show and Chris was behind the scenes as a producer. Tony and Chris Did their first show in May of 2011 and a week later decided to do a show to Tony's hometown of Selma, AL. The show was to deal with the issues of Selma, AL and allow the residents to voice their opinions on his Talk show. It was called, "The Soul of Selma Radio" But after a few broadcasts things just weren't happening as Tony expected and sadly he got little or no support for the broadcast. It looked as if his vision would fail. Disappointed and about to give up on his dream...Tony sat down and thought back to his father's early days on the radio station at WHBB and thought of how it was difficult gaining support even for his dad when he first started out in the radio industry in Selma. But Tony's Dad,Jim,made a shift in his thinking, reached out to a larger audience and it was then that his show boomed into popularity. Tony arose and went back to the drawing board, teaching himself how to do all the graphics, engineering, producing, commercial editing, artwork, video editing for marketing, etc. The results were amazing! God had given him talents that he didn't even know that he had...After much prayer and quiet moments, He decided to do a show to a world wide audience with focus on a Coast to coast broadcast. Tony had emerged from his negative circumstance with a full vision...He didn't let his situation defeat him...He kept his faith despite how it looked in the natural. Then came change. The name change of the station was powerful and prophetic! On June 6th 2011, "The Soul of Selma Radio" became.."The Soul of America Radio"! But it wasn't over just yet.... Shortly after Tony and (Then) co-host "Cam I Am" did their first successful show to a world-wide audience, Tony's son,Chris,looked at the name of the Radio station and asked his dad, "Are you gonna call it SOAR"? When Chris asked his father THAT question... Tony's childhood vision became alive and stood up within him! Tony looked up the definition of the word "SOAR" and what he saw sent chills through out his body SOAR! -To fly or rise high, -to increase rapidly above the usual level, -To rise or escalate suddenly! Through the power of the internet and podcast,..."SOAR" has a world wide audience and thousands of listening fans that love its "Soulful Talk Radio". SOAR gets emails and comments from countries all over the world. With Original shows like "In the Ladies Room" (all female hosts) and "The Grill" (4 hosts talking on current events) and "Lets Straighten it Out" (Relations issues). These shows were stopped after Tony had an illness in his family and Tony had to take a leave from the station. But now, SOAR has returned...... Hope and Healing: a Journey to Wholeness is a show dealing with abuse issues. Shows like "The faith Life" designed to encourage, Motivate and uplift thousands of fans every week. When asked about the future of SOAR, Tony says he plans on increasing the vision and still is looking for a multi host format to do shows and he is also looking into the possibly of going into main stream radio (am or fm) or Sirius XM radio SOAR'S Platform is designed to educate, uplift, motivate and inform! Tony ends by saying: "If it looks as if you've lost but God has told you that you've won...Victory is near....Lift up your head and "KEEP SOARING"!

Tony was born in Selma, AL, graduated from Selma High School and Alabama State University and later moved to Birmingham, AL after accepting employment there. Tony has done work with the Medicaid System, Social Security Disability, Blue Cross and Blue Shield and has Multiple years in Law Enforcement as a Police officer. He has always had a flare for Hosting talk radio and admits to staying up hours late at night listening to late night radio talk shows. Tony is Married with 4 children. His youngest Son, Chris (See Below) is one of the announcers for the Soul Of America Radio. You can here Chris most any nite making announcements during the show's breaks. Tony's father must have played a large part in his passion for radio. His Father, Jim Stallings, was a DJ in Selma, AL (WHBB) for many years playing the soulful sounds. Tony says, "I remember being up at the radio station watching my Dad DJ and He made it look so fun", Tony said with a smile. Tony started a FaceBook Group, along with long time Selma friend Elvie Munford-Franklin, called "The Soul Of Selma" which later inspired him to start a talk radio show directed to a Selma, AL audience and originally called "The Soul Of Selma Radio". Due to a lack of support, It was a few shows later that Tony decided to do the show to a nationally based audience and open the network for a platform to educate, inform and motivate. J.R. Thicklin (Host)

J.R. Thicklin has been in the fight against abuse for many years. This Author, activist and Pastor is well known in his community for standing up against the evils of abuse. The CEO (Tony) and Jay met in a hometown FaceBook group over a year ago and they became friends. It was during this time that Tony noticed the passion that Jay had for Domestic Abuse awareness. Jay is a much welcomed edition to the SOAR family. Jay's debut show had thousands of listeners and we anticipate he will have a doubled soon.
