Golovkin-Wade set for April 23rd in Los Angeles, CA

After a disappointing pay-per-view showing Gennady Golovkin will return to HBO to face Dominic Wade in a yet to be determined venue in Los Angeles, CA though many speculate it could once again be The Forum in Inglewood, CA. Golovkin, who is considered by all reasonable people in this day and age the best middleweight in the division right now is on a quest to unify the division which well has seemingly got him stuck in rut of fighting fights most people are not interested in. Wade, on the other hand is a fairly green fighter who is signed to Al Haymon, but will be fighting for Golovkin''s IBF middleweight title since Tureano Johnson is now injured. Wade is largely unknown with a good record and someone I have yet to see a fight of. The news was first reported by ESPN.com''s Dan Rafael.

Canelo vs. Khan set for May 7th in Las Vegas

In one of the most surprising bits of boxing news in recent memory, it appears that Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will face Amir "King" Khan on May 7th at the new super arena in Las Vegas, NV per ESPN.com. The bout will serve as an interesting fight as Khan had limited experience at 147 lbs and spent the majority of his career at 140 lbs. as he will move up to 155 lbs. to face one of the best guys in the "division" (technically a catchweight). Some of the more interesting tweets are the narrative being told this morning that Khan didn't talk with Hayon in order to get the fight.

Alexis Santiago to headline FS1 card February 16th

Bantamweight Alexis "Beaver" Santiago (20-3-1, 8 KOs) returns to take on game veteran Erik Ruiz (15-4, 6 KOs) in a 10-round main event of Premier Boxing Champions will take place on February 16 as part of a card televised by Fox Sports1 from Sam's Town Live in Las Vegas. The television card will be rounded out by two eight-round bouts as light heavyweight Lionell "The Great" Thompson (16-3, 10 KOs) battles Paul Parker (7-1, 4 KOs), and super middleweight Lanell "KO" Bellows (14-1-1, 7 KOs) faces Antowyan "Iceman" Aikens (10-0-1, 1 KO).

Kovalev, Mikhaylenko win on HBO

In the main event of the HBO broadcast held at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev (29-0-1 26KOs) stopped Jean Pascal (30-4-1 17KOs) in a bitter rematch that turned personal in the build up to the fight in which race, an issue often avoided in public was the keystone to the fight week promote (and Kovalev's views towards race) saw Sergey Kovalev brutal beatdown Jean Pascal. In an ugly affair that saw Kovalev use his jab both to the body and head neutralize Pascal, a heavy clinch fest ensued as Pascal appeared hurt from the middle of the second round. The fifth round saw the beginning of the end as Pascal took a lot of answered punches , but somehow survived the round. In between rounds Freddie Roach, Pascal's new trainer, warned him he would stop the fight if he didn't "...show him something". Pascal took even more damage in the sixth round as Pascal pleaded to continue in the fight. Roach gave him one extra round, but stopped the bout in the eighth round in the corner. In the co-main event of the HBO broadcast, welterweight Dmitry "The Mechanic" Mikhaylenko (21-0, 9 KOs) scored a dominate decision over late notice opponent Karim "Hard Hitta" Mayfield (19-3-1, 11 KOs) of San Francisco, CA. Late sub Mayfield, who replaced Ray Robinson to take the fight after Robinson was injured in a car accident. Mayfield started quickly, but appeared to land single hard shots as opposed to Mikhaylenko who was using volume to push back Mayfield. The final scores were 100-90, 100-90, 99-91 with the win Mikhaylenko claimed the vacant USBA title.

Julian "El Camar n" Ramirez (16-0, 8 KOs) earned a decision over Christopher "The S.D. Kid" Martin (28-7-3, 9 KOs) of San Diego in a scheduled ten rounder on Friday night at the sold out Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Ramirez who missed weight by 1.4 lbs started strong as he hurt Martin to the body forcing Martin to not be able to move as much. Martin would turn the table in the sixth hurting Ramirez is in the body as well. The judges scored the bout 100-90, 99-91, and 99-91 all for Julian Ramirez. In the co-main event Abraham "Chamaco" Lopez (20-0-1, 15 KOs) of La Puente, California stopped Carlos Valcarcel (14-5-4, 5 KOs) in round seven in a bout that saw an outgunned fighter simply get beat on until he couldn't take much more. Edgar Valerio destroyed Justin Lopez with a first round stoppage. Joshua Franco (4-0, 2 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Juan Benavides (5-7-1, 2 KOs). Pablo "The Shark" Rubio, Jr. (4-0, 3 KOs) scored a second round knockout of Bryan Perez (2-3-1, 1 KO) to start the evening off

In the main event on the inaugural broadcast of PBC on FOX, from Staples Center in Los Angeles, former unified junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia, (32-0, 18 KOs), captured the vacant WBC welterweight title with a close unanimous decision over former four-division champion Robert Guerrero, (33-4-1, 18 KOs) in a hot contested affair. Garcia, a heavy favorite coming into the fight looked unsettled by Guerrero early in the fight losing the first five rounds on my card based off Guerrero's activity controlled the action with a higher work rate and closing distance. Garcia did something he doesn't often do, which is he made an adjustment as he began to time Guerrero coming in with his straight right hand. The two engaged in a close back and forth fight that was all action until the last bell. Sammy "The Who Can Mexican" Vasquez (21-0, 15 KOs) of Pittsburgh scored a sixth round stoppage over East L.A.'s Aron Martinez (20-5-1, 4 KOs). Vasquez outworked Martinez, who couldn't cut off the ring let alone land a hard punch. Martinez did not come out for round seven which awarded Martinez the victory for the fight. In the opening bout, Amir "Hardcore" Mansour, (22-2-1, 16 KOs) was unable to continue after round five after having a broken jaw due to U.S. Olympian Dominic Breazeale, (17-0, 15 KOs), who pulled off the victory. Breazeale was unable to mount offense early, but Mansour appeared to gas after knocking Breazeale down in the third round. Mansour began to slow down and Breazeale capitalized by fully extending on his punches which lead to Mansour not answering the bell

Oakland, CA - In front of a sold-out crowd in Oakland, CA at the Oakland Marriott Civic Center, junior welterweight Jonathan " El Carismatico" Chicas (14-2 7KOs) of San Francisco, CA stopped Bilal "Rebellious" Mahasin (7-3-1 1KO) in the fifth round of the main event on top of a stacked card that kicked off boxing in the Bay Area for 2016. Mahasin, who was the aggressor to start the fight pushed the pace for the first three rounds, but a slight shift in momentum occurred in the fourth round when Chicas' hand speed began to catch up to Mahasin. In the fifth round, Chicas came over top of a Mahasin's jab with a right hand that rocked Mahasin to the ropes. Mahasin, who still seemed able to fight was in the corner covering up when a flurry of unanswered punches from Chicas saw the referee step in to call a halt to the fight. Chicas, who is also the BKB champion earned one of his biggest career wins to date in a grudge match between two high level fighters in the Bay Area. Some observers ringside thought the bout should of continued and Mahasin be afforded a standing-eight, leading to speculation that a rematch between the two might be in the future. Nonetheless, this was the biggest win of Chicas' career in his opponents hometown. In the co-main, junior middleweight Aaron "Heavy Metal" Coley (12-1-1 6KOs) of Hayward, CA defeated Jeremy Ramos (9-3) in a junior middleweight affair. Coley outpointed Ramos, who recently fought Danny Valdivia for NABF junior middleweight title fight. Coley won in a dominate fashion as he controlled his range and outboxed Ramos who never really was able to touch the slick Coley. Junior middleweight Ricardo Pinell (13-2-1 6KOs) of San Francisco, CA won a one-sided decision over Arturo Crespin (12-5-1) of New Mexico in a six round decision. Pinell who was on his way to stopping Crespin suffered a bad head butt at the end of the third round that seemed to slow down Pinell a bit as Pinell commented after the fight not feeling the same after the clash of heads. Crespin engaged in brawl by taunting Pinell, dropping his hands and eating straight punches much to the crowd's delight. Pinell landed the cleaner punches and dominated the majority of each round. O.T. "The Champ" Seymore (5-0 5KOs) continued his knockout streak which now is up to five in a row as he knocked out a game Jonathan Aceves (1-2) in the third of a competitive bout that Seymore was clearly dominating. Seymore showed off his fast hands and legit one punch knockout power as he the welterweight lived up to his moniker "Sweet Dreamz" as he put his foe to sleep Former UFC and WEC heavyweight mixed martial artist Mike Kyle (1-0 1KO) made his pro boxing debut by knocking out James Kirby (0-1) of Fresno, CA. After the bout, Kyle stated that he is looking to go the top and wants Deontay Wilder eventually. In a hard fought bout, Brandon Dino Adams (4-3 2KOs) of 3rd St Boxing Gym in San Francisco outpointed a game Eddie Diaz (1-4) in a competitive affair. The bout saw Adams working off his back foot and catching Diaz coming in as well as Diaz applying pressure that would frustrate Adams. Diaz hit Adams multiple times low, so much so that after the bout Adams commented that he didn't feel like himself, because of the pain he suffered. Darren Mallard (3-1-1) of Sacramento, CA decisioned Chad McKinney (1-5) in a competitive, close fight. Mallard struggled to keep distance at times allowing McKinney to get on the inside and land clean punches. Mallard, the more technical of the two found a way to pull off the victory edging a four round decision.Richard Stachowski (1-0 1KO) knocked out Juan Cabrera (0-1) in less than one minute in a sensational knockout. In the opening bout Andres Salas (1-0) of Ring of Fire Boxing in San Francisco, CA knocked out Cody Sons (0-1). In between the undercard and main event, singer/songwriter Adrian Marcel of Oakland, CA performed a fifteen minute set including his single "2 AM".

Brook to defend IBF welterweight title against Bizier

Kell Brook will defend his IBF welterweight title against mandatory challenger Kevin Bizier at the Sheffield Arena on March 26. The fight is another uninspiring title defense since beating Shawn Porter in 2014, Brook has faced Jo Jo Dan and Frankie Gavin. Brook was scheduled to face Diego Chaves, but the bout was later scratched and not rescheduled. Via a press release Brook stated "While I was gutted to miss out on fighting in October, I've fully recovered from the injury and feel stronger than ever. I've been working hard in the gym and working on new things, and I cannot wait to put on another explosive performance for my hometown fans and prove I am the best 147-pound fighter on the planet."

As many might know by now Manny Pacquiao will face Timothy Bradley for the third time on April 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. The televised undercard portion of the pay-per-view will feature a co-main event between WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham defending his belt against Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez, two time Olympian Oscar Valdez will step up in competition as he faces Evgeny "The Mexican Russian" Gradovich and junior welterweight 2012 U.S. Olympian Jose Ramirez will open the card against Manny Perez.

Karim Mayfield to face Dmitry Mikhaylenko on HBO

One man's loss is another man's time to shine as days after Ray Robinson was forced to pull out of a fight with welterweight Dmitry "The Mechanic" Mikhaylenko (20-0, 9 KOs), Karim "Hard Hitta" Mayfield (19-2-1, 11 KOs) will step in to replace Robinson on late notice. Last year, it was heavily rumored that Robinson was going to fight Mayfield, but that fight never took place, but Mikhaylenko this will be a big step-up in competition for him up until this point. The bout will serve as the co-main event of the January 30th as the HBO lead-in on the World Championship Boxing telecast which is headlined Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KOs) and Jean Pascal (30-3-1, 17 KOs) who are rematching from their bout last year.

PBC Toe to Toe Tuesday from Club Nokia in downtown L.A. returned with another Fox Sports 1 broadcast that saw welterweight Jamal James (19-0 9 KOs) outpointing 2008 U.S. Olympian Javier Molina (17-2, 8 KOs.). The bout started competitive with lost Molina the aggressor and causing some havoc. James began to use his length as the fight began to progress as Molina began to find himself at the full extension of James' punches who began take over. The judges scored the fight 99-91, 98-92, and 97-93 all for James Caleb Plant stopped Adatar Rodriguez in the sixth round of a scheduled eight round middleweight bout. Rodriguez suffered cuts on his face in the opening round, one from a punch and the other from a headbutt. Plant was too slick for Rodriguez who he stopped in the sixth round, due to an accumulation of shots. In the super middleweight co-main event David Benavidez scored a second round stoppage of Kevin Cobbs. Benavidez destroyed a game, but outclassed Cobbs who walked into right hand after right hand after before the stoppage in the second round. In the television swing bout, Malcolm McCallister scored a third round stoppage over Tyrone Selders of Baton Rouge, Louisiana in a fun middleweight bout. McCallister dropped Selders in the opening round, but McCallister also suffered a cut above his right eye from a solid punch. The bout was back and forth until McCallister finally got the game foe out of action in the third round.

David Lemieux-James de la Rosa returns March 12th

Eye of the Tiger Management and Golden Boy Promotions have announced that former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) will return to his hometown, Montreal, Quebec, Canada on March 12 against San Benito, Texas' "King" James de la Rosa (23-3, 13 KOs) at Montreal's Olympia Theatre. This will be his first bout since being outclassed by Gennady Golovkin on a failed pay-per-view that did less 200,000 PPV buys. The fight is rumored to be picked up by HBO.

Deontay Wilder stops Szpilka, Martin wins world title

In front of 12,000 plus people WBC Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (36-0 35 KOs) brutally knocked out Artur Szpilka (20-2 15 KOs) in the ninth round with a brutal counter right hook that landed perfectly on Szpilka's chin leaving Szpilka motionless for what felt like minutes on Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Szpilka frustrated Wilder with good head movement and a awkward southpaw style that didn't allow Wilder to effectively pump his jab. . Wilder began to take over when Szpilka was unable to constantly press him on the inside and began to find himself at the end of Wilder's punches. The end came in the ninth round when Szpilka was trying to engage Wilder and came in wide to find himself eating a short right hook that landed perfectly on the chin, that left him motionless. Szpilka's two career losses have both come via knockout with his loss coming to Bryant Jennings. After the bout, Tyson Fury stormed the ring to challenge Deontay Wilder. Watch Video on YouTube In the co-main event Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) won the vacant IBF heavyweight title with a third round stoppage of Vyacheslav Glazkov. The bout was on it's way to being a very forget-able fight after the first two rounds in which neither was able to dictate the fight. The third saw a Martin jab land and dislocate Glazkov's knees which would get the bout ruled off as Glazkov told the referee he was unable to continue.

Showtime to show Frampton-Quigg, Santa Cruz-Martinez on February 27th

Showtime has acquired the U.S. television broadcast to the February 27 clash between super bantamweight world championship unification bout between IBF champion Carl Frampton and WBA titlist Scott Quigg. That bout will air live on Showtime from Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. At the time of this report the it is unclear when the bout will be televised , but this is one of the biggest bouts in the recent memory in UK history. Leo "El Terremoto" Santa Cruz will take on Kiko Martinez on February 27 at The Honda Center in Anaheim, California later that evening. It is being suggested that Frampton-Quigg will be broadcast live in the afternoon/early evening and then be re-shown later that evening with Santa Cruz-Martinez being the main event.
