DJ Jazzy Jeff is in just as much awe as everyone else, taking in the sprawling metropolis laid out before the W Hotel Taipei. "This is amazing," he says from the immaculate 10th-floor pool deck, enamored by not only the sweeping city views, but also the manmade green oasis decorated with ivy walls, spindly trees and peaceful, picturesque nooks. As he imagines what the space would look like if he were here in June and not January, it's hard not to imagine his and Will Smith's anthemic (and Grammy award-winning) 1991 hit, "Summertime," queued up to soundtrack the hypothetical party. But as Jeff gawks at the sights, the real on-site marvel-and part of the reason scores of worldwide DJs have flocked to Taiwan's buzzy capital-is him. The man born Jeffrey Allen Townes has spent the better part of his week in Taipei bonding with not only his Vinyl Destination tour bredren Rhymefest and Dayne Jordan, who came along for the trip, but also with what feels like a brotherhood (and sisterhood!) of DJs striving to keep the culture alive. Prior to his rooftop break, Jeff sat in front of a packed room of Red Bull Music 3Style attendees leaning forward in their seats, listening to him backtrack his journey from being a West Philadelphia "street DJ" to rocking booths and stages all around the world. The animated tone made familiar by his character's witty quips on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air hasn't changed too much. He still sounds borderline cartoonish when he cracks well-timed jokes or cuts the air with cuss words. Only now, that signature voice belongs to a more relaxed, less wiry, and salt-and-pepper haired Jeff. "She's in the kitchen cooking. She had to endure me working out stuff without her saying, 'This sh*t is getting on my nerves, can you turn that down?'" he said, drifting down memory lane. Jeff, now 54, still remembers the days of his mother tolerating his many teenaged practice sessions. Senator Bernie Sanders, the 77-year-old Brooklynite, has officially entered the running to become the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee. He raised more money in his first 24 hours than any other candidate did in their first day, partly because he's the most high-profile candidate to join the race yet; he also ran for the nomination in 2016 and ultimately lost to Hillary Clinton. Sanders, who currently represents Vermont, is a self-described democratic socialist and a registered independent who caucuses with Democrats. He's been credited with pushing the Democratic Party further to the left and championing platforms like Medicare for All and combating climate change, but more on all of that later. OFFSET REVEALS "FATHER OF 4" ARTWORK

Offset's solo debut album drops tonight. Offset will finally be releasing his long-awaited debut solo album tonight. It's been a long time coming. After the summer, QC and Migos began rolling out the solo projects for the ATL trio. Quavo came first with Quavo Huncho before Takeoffgot his chance to shine with The Last Rocket. Unfortunately, while many expected Offset's album to drop in December, it never happened, nor did he offer another release date. For the past few months, we've been left in the dark wondering when he would be releasing it. Tonight, he'll finally unleash Father Of 4 and now, he reveals both the cover art and tracklist. Offset's Father Of 4 cover art features the rapper on a throne in front of wall covered in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics while his four children are around him. His oldest son stands next to the throne while Offset and Cardi B's daughter, Kulture, sits on her fathers lap. Meanwhile, the middle child sits at Offset's feet.

LADY GAGA AND CHRISTIAN CARINO HAVE SPLIT

Lady Gaga and her fianc Christian Carino have quietly broken up. E! broke the news last week, reporting that while two sources said the couple were still together, one said they ended their engagement last week. Gaga's rep has now confirmed the breakup to People, with a source saying, "It just didn't work out. Relationships sometimes end. There's no long dramatic story." Breakup rumors started after the 2019 Grammys. Gaga did not attend the event with Carino despite attending most of her award season shows with him as her date. Fans noticed she also didn't wear her engagement ring at the event. A source explained to E! that Gaga not wearing the ring wasn't because they were over, but that the couple had put their wedding on hold. "She just wasn't wearing her ring due to performing," one source said. "They have put all their wedding plans on hold until after Gaga's busy season, but still plan to get married this year." KARDASHIANS FILE DOCUMENTS TO TRADEMARK KIDS NAMES

It was always inevitable that the children of Kylie Jenner, plus Kim and Khloe Kardashian, would become a part of the family empire. According to TMZ, the three aforementioned sisters have filed documents to trademark the names of their children, including Saint, North, and Chicago West, as well as True Thompson and Stormi Webster. The documents obtained by TMZ say that the purpose of this was to put the names of the kids on products that include a clothing line, skincare products, and toys (among other things). DX, CHYNA AND TRIPLE H BEING INDUCTED INTO 2019 WWE HALL OF FAME

D-Generation X is heading to the WWE Hall of Fame, Tim Fiorvanti of ESPN.com confirmed Monday. "Both key versions of DX will be recognized as a collective group of six, including Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Chyna, Road Dogg, Billy Gunn and X-Pac," noted Fiorvanti, who provided a comment from Triple H. "I think it's the most meaningful for us all to go in together and to be recognized together," Paul "Triple H" Levesque told ESPN. "Because I think both groups were [just] as impactful." An ad promoting DX's Hall of Fame induction leaked Sunday despite there being no announcement from WWE at the time.

Michaels will become the second two-time WWE Hall of Famer, joining Ric Flair. The DX stable debuted in 1997 with Triple H, Michaels, Rick Rude and Chyna. Rude exited the faction when he returned to WCW, but DX quickly ascended to the top of WWE's roster due to its not-so-PG antics and antagonizing of authority. Triple H also spoke about Chyna's importance and impact in professional wrestling, per Fiorvanti: "It was completely different. No one had ever had a female [enforcer] before, especially one like that. It just worked out. The timing was right." Michaels was later kicked out of the faction following his loss to Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania XIV, with Triple H assuming control (as Michaels was about to retire for several years from wrestling due to chronic back injuries). The Breakfast Club surprisingly aired two of Nicki Minaj's freestyles she released over the past weekend on Queen Radio. After the song finished, the co-hosts dissected some lyrics towards the end where the Queens rapper claimed that she was blackballed by radio. And then they say 'You know, it's time to drop your single' I said 'Noooo/ You know radio already tried to blackball a b*tch," Nicki spit. Charlamagne Tha God put Envy on the hot seat saying, "DJ Envy is the only DJ blackballing you. That is a fact." CThaGod went on to ask him to explain why he stopped playing Nicki's music. Childish Gambino's symbolic music video won the Grammy for Best Video at Sunday night's award ceremony. Gambino wasn't present to accept his award. Filmmaker Hiro Murai accepted the award on his behalf and thanked everyone involved in the production. He also dedicated the award to Gambino's father who passed away last year. Childish Gambino shared the heavy news during a stop on his This Is America Tour. "I lost my father a couple weeks ago, and I wanted to play him some of the new songs," Glover said in a video shared by a fan on Reddit. "But he didn't want to hear them because he was like, 'I know they'll be great.'" NEW YORK IS GETTING A HIP-HOP MUSEUM.. DEADASS

The New York City Universal Hip-hop Museum (UHHM) is slated to open in 2022 in the Bronx. Founded by Rocky Bucano, Kurtis Blow, Shawn LG Thomas, Grandwizzard Theodore, Mickey Bentson, and , Joe Conzo Jr. the museum "celebrates and preserves the history of local and global hip-hop music and culture to inspire, empower, and promote understanding," according to the UHHM website. The museum backed by Kurtis Blow ( UHHM Chairman), Ice-T (member of the founding board of directors), and LL Cool J (cultural ambassador), will feature a recording studio, virtual graffiti wall, photos, records, artifacts, and books featuring the genre's progress. The first two floors of the building will house the museum what the New York City Economic Development Corporation is calling Bronx Point may have some competition. The new mega-complex along the Harlem-River waterfront and just blocks from the Yankee Stadium, will compete with the Hip-Hop Hall Of Fame in Midtown Manhattan. Founded in 1992 by Hip-Hop Hall of Fame Awards creator and executive producer James 'JT' Thompson was launched globally at Sylvia's, Harlem's historic restaurant in 1995. This unveiling showcased museum plans, programs, and the BET Cable Network deal for the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame Awards TV Show. Unfortunately the awards show was disrupted when advertisers funding was pulled after the Tupac Shakur murder in 1996, and after The Notorious B.I.G murder in 1997. 21 SAVAGE BREAKS DOWN HIS EXPERIENCES AS AN UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANT

21 Savage sat down for an interview with the New York Times, detailing his time being detained by ICE, the circumstances that brought him to the country and even all those memes that popped up around the news of his arrest. Speaking to Jon Caramanica, 21 explained what it was like living in the country as an undocumented immigrant and what kept him from getting his status in order. "It felt impossible," Savage said of working out his citizenship. "It got to the point where I just learned to live without it. 'Cause I still ain't got it, I'm 26, and I'm rich. So, just learned to live without it." He said that even with the connections and influence that comes with being a rich and famous rapper, figuring out the immigration system was a nightmare. "Even if you got money, it ain't easy. It ain't no favoritism, and I respect it, I honestly respect it. It would be kind of messed up if they treated rich immigrants better than poor immigrants, I think," he said. The rapper said that the worst part of the experience wasn't being locked up, it was having to weigh the possibility of being kicked out of the country he thought of as home. "All that just going through your head, like, 'Damn, I love my house, I ain't gonna be able to go in my house no more? I ain't gonna be able to go to my favorite restaurant that I been going to for 20 years straight?' That's the most important thing," he said. "If you tell me, 'I'll give you 20 million to go stay somewhere you ain't never stayed,' I'd rather be broke. I'll sit in jail to fight to live where I've been living my whole life." 'FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY' MAY BE A BOX OFFICE CHAMP

It's beginning to look like Fighting With My Family will be a box office champ. Critics and audiences have both garnered the film a score of 92% via Rotten Tomatoes, which is no easy bout for any filmmaker. The film covers the journey of WWE SUPERSTAR Paige as she goes from growing up in a wrestling family in the U.K., to a tryout with WWE alongside her brother, to eventually becoming one of the pioneers of WWE's current women's revolution. The film is produced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and written/directed by Stephen Merchant.

THERE'S A DRAKE DOCUMENTARY AND SOMEONE IS BEING SUED

UMG faces a lawsuit over the unauthorized Drake documentary that surfaced earlier this year. The production company behind an unauthorized Drake documentary seems to have a bone to pick with Universal Music Group and now, they're taking the major record label to court for having their doc pulled from streaming services. According to TMZ, Symettrica Entertainment is suing Universal Music Group for allegedly having their documentary on Drake taken down from streaming services. Symettrica claims UMG sent out notices to take down the music and video clips in the documentary, Drake: Rewriting The Rules. In documents filed in court, the production company claims UMG's move to pull the documentary, "has nothing to do with purported 'copyright infringement,' and everything to do with placating its artist Drake by attempting to suppress any commentary or criticism of Drake."

The unauthorized documentary on Drake dropped on Vevo in November before it made its way onto Netflix, iTunes, and Amazon on Jan. 16th. The production company said they received a notice from UMG the next day and two days afterward, the streaming services removed the documentary, saying they had no other choice. Symmetrica said the use of Drake's clips were fair use, claiming UMG caused them to lose a ton of money. They want the court to make it clear that the use of the Drake clips doesn't infringe on copyright laws. Disclaimer: At some point, we all need to put in our time and grind in order to build experience and tolerance. My thoughts following this disclaimer are for those who have already made a few steps up the ladder. I've recently hit a crossroads with the ideology behind the saying, "hard work pays off." My beef isn't so much with the saying because when you work hard, the work will speak for itself. Right? I think in the world that we're in now, the HOW is not so much, if at all, important when the end result of your efforts are what really determines your value. ie. You can spend 60 man hours on a project and deliver a presentation that lands you a petty pat on the back and a "nice work" e-mail OR you can spend 50 hours binge-watching a new Netflix original in your underwear while a college student you paid $100 dollars to, creates the same presentation. Which in the end only cost you 10 hours or so. Ya' know, to cover the introduction to an NDA, hosting the onboarding dinner, supervising and revising the presentation until their work was presentable. You get the same petty pat on the back and the same "nice work" e-mail. Nobody got pissed at you for not putting your already fragile relationship on the back burner to finalize those graphics. You didn't get scolded for missing a family event. In fact, you find that everything was actually better than ok. Maybe it's time to build a team? Maybe it's time to be more RESULTS driven. I'm of the impression that some of us develop a super-hero complex. Have you ever noticed how some parents put themselves last? Like, really last. Like, when everyone else is dressed up and neat but Mom looks like she stuck a fork in the toaster-kinda-last. That's the same thing. That is a person sacrificing themselves, their appearance, their happiness to give all of their focus and attention to one thing. Here's the pill that is hard to swallow: NO ONE ASKED THEM TO. Don't hate me. Wait a minute. Just take a second to register this. The kids can wait. They really can. Mom doesn't have to feel bad for spending an extra $20 on her nails or some extra money on her hair and outfit. The kids didn't ask you to do that. That is the super-hero complex I'm talking about. Where you feel you need to over sacrifice to deliver on something. When all that matters is that you all look presentable as a family and have a good time. No one asked you to put in 60 hours on the project. You just did it. To save a day that really didn't need saving. The kids didn't stop and ask you to NOT do something for yourself. Drop the complex. VENOM MOVIEGOERS ARE PISSED..

So, here's the thing about Venom: Get as many friends as you can, go to the theater, buy tickets for Venom, then have the time of your life as you laugh and laugh. Now, I do want to make it clear that I think Venom is not a good movie, but I also want to make it clear that I had the time of my life watching it. I think in a couple of years Venom could be the type of movie that sells out midnight showings as people come up to the screen and act out their favorite parts - like a Rocky Horror Picture Show type of thing. My point is, if you're in the right group and right frame of mind, Venom is really fun to watch. Oh and at one point Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock and Venom even kind of make out. Alright, now that that little detail is out of the way (there's a lot going on in that scene, but I won't spoil all the details), this sounds like a good as time as ever to jump right in. (Also, in case you haven't figured it out yet, I am fascinated by this movie. If a behind the scenes tell-all ever comes out, I will be the first in line to buy it. Okay, that's hyperbole. Most likely I'd just buy it on Amazon, or whatever, and not wait in any kind of a line at all, but you get the point.) Eddie Brock (Hardy) is the host of his own web-based journalism video series. Basically, if something is fishy going on around the San Francisco or Oakland area, Eddie Brock will be there to investigate. He works for some sort of larger conglomerate that sets him up with a big interview for his show with local tech wunderkind, Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed). There are rumors that Carlton Drake has been running experiments on homeless people that have resulted in a few deaths. Eddie confronts Carlton Drake about these rumors, they are denied, then Eddie immediately loses his job and his fianc , Anne, played by Michelle Williams. (Anne breaks up with him because Eddie looked at some top-secret documents on her computer that proves these deaths, which also resulted in Anne being fired from her job as an attorney.) Also, I love the idea of "rumors tests are being run that killed people." Could you imagine if, say, these rumors existed about Elon Musk or someone like that? "Hey, you can't deny the success he's had, now if he can only shake these pesky rumors that he experiments on homeless people and kills them." Eventually one of Carlton Drake's scientists (Jenny Slate) sneaks Eddie into the lab. It's there he discovers the experiments being done to combine humans and alien symbiotes. And it's here that Eddie meets an alien symbiote named Venom who attaches himself to Eddie. (Best known as first Spider-Man's cool new black suit in the mid-1980s, Venom would eventually become his own character. Because the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently using Spider-Man in its storyline and Venom is not part of the MCU, Spider-Man isn't even mentioned.) Most of Venom is Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock walking around with that weird Venom voice from the trailer in his head saying stuff like, "I'm hungry, Eddie." Or, "I want to eat a brain, Eddie." After a scene in which Venom does eat some brains, he and Eddie swim across the bay, Venom spits Eddie out, then proceeds to give Eddie a lecture about what a huge loser Eddie is. Disclaimer: At some point, we all need to put in our time and grind in order to build experience and tolerance. My thoughts following this disclaimer are for those who have already made a few steps up the ladder. I've recently hit a crossroads with the ideology behind the saying, "hard work pays off." My beef isn't so much with the saying because when you work hard, the work will speak for itself. Right? I think in the world that we're in now, the HOW is not so much, if at all, important when the end result of your efforts are what really determines your value. ie. You can spend 60 man hours on a project and deliver a presentation that lands you a petty pat on the back and a "nice work" e-mail OR you can spend 50 hours binge-watching a new Netflix original in your underwear while a college student you paid $100 dollars to, creates the same presentation. Which in the end only cost you 10 hours or so. Ya' know, to cover the introduction to an NDA, hosting the onboarding dinner, supervising and revising the presentation until their work was presentable. You get the same petty pat on the back and the same "nice work" e-mail. Nobody got pissed at you for not putting your already fragile relationship on the back burner to finalize those graphics. You didn't get scolded for missing a family event. In fact, you find that everything was actually better than ok. Maybe it's time to build a team? Maybe it's time to be more RESULTS driven. I'm of the impression that some of us develop a super-hero complex. Have you ever noticed how some parents put themselves last? Like, really last. Like, when everyone else is dressed up and neat but Mom looks like she stuck a fork in the toaster-kinda-last. That's the same thing. That is a person sacrificing themselves, their appearance, their happiness to give all of their focus and attention to one thing. Here's the pill that is hard to swallow: NO ONE ASKED THEM TO. Don't hate me. Wait a minute. Just take a second to register this. The kids can wait. They really can. Mom doesn't have to feel bad for spending an extra $20 on her nails or some extra money on her hair and outfit. The kids didn't ask you to do that. That is the super-hero complex I'm talking about. Where you feel you need to over sacrifice to deliver on something. When all that matters is that you all look presentable as a family and have a good time. No one asked you to put in 60 hours on the project. You just did it. To save a day that really didn't need saving. The kids didn't stop and ask you to NOT do something for yourself. Drop the complex. Unprompted sacrifice doesn't make you a hero. It makes you bitter. I think the new saying should be, "results pay off." -Hex

How High 2 Is On Its Way Starring Lil Yachty

It looks like Lil Yachty will soon be flexing his acting chops. In a video posted to his Twitter account on Tuesday (Sept. 25), Lil Boat announced that he'll be starring in the long-awaited sequel to the 2001 film How High-How High 2. "I got some exciting news for all my fans and all my haters out there, and all the smokers," Yachty, who recently teased a new album, said. "I want to be the first to announce that we are in production of the long-awaited sequel of How High 2, starring me, you know what I'm saying?" For those who know Yachty, he may seem like an odd choice for a film about marijuana, given that he doesn't smoke or drink. However, according to MTV, Lil Boat will be acting as the character of "Roger," who is the entrepreneurial younger brother of one of the main characters. No word yet on who will be the protagonists of the film just yet-but with any luck, maybe Method Man and Redman will make their return. The film is set to hit theaters in 2019. How High 2 started filming in Lil Yachty's hometown of Atlanta today. Not only will it be a short commute for the 2016 XXL Freshman, but he's also be among friends. The CEOs of his label, Quality Control, Kevin "Coach K" Lee, and Pierre "Pee" Thomas, will also reportedly be credited as executive producers of the film, as will Yachty. -Via XXL

Lil Wayne Just Announced Carter V Release Date

Fans have been waiting, as Wayne noted, for nearly six years since he first announced the project and said it would be his last album. The delay of its release was embroiled in the legal battle between Wayne and Birdman, which eventually concluded in July 2018. As a result of the lawsuit, Lil Wayne became the sole owner of Young Money. The project remains largely a mystery. In a recent Billboard cover interview, it was revealed that Wayne would discuss a suicide attempt by the artist at age 12. The iconic hip-hop artist has always maintained that shooting himself nearly through the heart was an accident. However, according to Mack Maine, Tha Carter V's outro track will discuss the fact that it was actually an attempt by Weezy to end his life when his mother told him he wasn't allowed to rap. Along with his announcement of the album release date, Weezy also included a link to his website, thacarterv.com, which has a countdown clock to the long-awaited album drop. Lil Wayne's Carter V will be released on his Birthday Sept. 27th.

Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino Breaks His Foot On Tour

Childish Gambino has nine dates left on his This Is America Tour, but an injury he suffered last night (Sept 23) leaves the remaining shows in question. The "Feels Like Summer" crooner threw fans for a loop at his Dallas performance yesterday when he walked off the stage 30 minutes before it was scheduled to end. Fans believed he may have "misstepped during a dance move," according to TMZ, and a rep from the venue, American Airlines Center, has confirmed that the artist broke his foot after the show. According to radio personality Kevin Turner, Gambino left the stage before performing some of his biggest hits. "The show ended without them playing Sober, 3005, Sweatpants, and Redbone so naturally most of the crowd is pissed and also confused," he tweeted. Hopefully this doesn't keep him from continuing the tour, as it will be his last. In a fan video from his kickoff show in Atlanta on Sept. 6, Gambino told fans, "Number one, if you're at this show, then you know this is the last Gambino tour ever. I love you forever for supporting me and coming out for this shit."

DreamDoll's latest has arrived. The Bronx rapper released Life in Plastic 2 on Friday (Sept. 7) and the 10-track EP comes with a few heavy duty features. Lil' Kim continues her creative resurgence with an appearance on "Funeral" that playfully references Drake's chart-topper "In My Feelings." Cupcakke, for her part, serves a typically clever verse on "Splish Splash." Fellow New Yorkers David Lee and LouGotCash also feature. DreamDoll, a former Love & Hip Hop: New York cast member, is signed to fellow cast member DJ Self's Gwinin Entertainment. She dropped a music video for the project's lead single, "Pull Up (WYA)," in early August and followed with a visual for "Bundles," released yesterday (Sept. 10). The EP functions as a sequel to last September's Life in Plastic, which featured DreamDoll's breakout song, "Everything Nice." 50 Cent's itchy Instagram fingers are acting up again. Earlier this week, the rapper-turned-actor fired shots at fellow New Yorker Busta Rhymes' neck size, who responded with heat yesterday (Sept. 11). "And the award for the strongest neck in Hip Hop go's to Busta Bus Yay LOL," Curtis wrote in the since-deleted post that sparked the spat, according to screenshots. Fif reportedly followed by posting the screenshot of a text conversation in which he tells Brooklyn rapper Casanova that he's not afraid of Busta, and a subsequent post claiming Rhymes and longtime New York rap manager Big Fendi were "trying to have [him] killed." Both posts were deleted. In any case, Busta responded Tuesday with an Instagram post of a young 50 Cent mugging at a camera. Meeting Charlamagne Tha God

There was something surreal about meeting and getting to hear from Charlamagne Tha God. On June 17th of last year, I began listening to Charlamagnes book, 'Black Privilege' via Audible. In it, he speaks about hitting his all time low and how he grew to be the powerhouse personality he is today. I felt like he was able to maintain a level of authenticity that many aspire to keep but lose along their journeys. He was very transparent about his childhood and shared a lot of industry gems he's learned on his climb. Like being unafraid of actually grinding. Like, ACTUALLY grinding.. He even speaks about being an INTERN and how much it can actually work in your favor if you're willing to do the work. . .

Immediately after I finished the book I added the books cover to my vision board under, 'people I need to meet.' Only a handful of months later, I was invited to be a part of Charlamagnes speaking engagement in Chicago. One of my friends texted me.... "Check out Charlamagnes IG. You're on it!" I hadn't mentioned to anyone that I was invited to be a part of it as I didn't want to feel embarrassed if for any reason the event wasn't going to happen. Even though I'm a full believer of the law of attraction, I was still in shock and awe. They say you shouldn't meet the people you admire because they'll kill it for you. To be honest, his energy was the same as it was in the book. It was purposeful and full of intent.Here are some key take aways from the speaking engagement: "Face everything & rise or fear everything and run" "You're more than what you think you are to so many people.." "Information is very important" "The person who controls the media controls the mind of the masses" "We live in the MISinformation age" "We have to show kids there are OTHER ways to make money" "I want to leave a legacy of service" "If you are a radio personality you are a public servant. You should be empowering people in the community." Not all of these are his original quotes, as I mentioned they are things that I jotted down that I wanted to revisit and/or share.
