He has taken the year off from his math teaching in Frederick County to get Gospel Haiti’s school up and running this first year with his wife, Marie-Anne. The first 30 preschool students are wrapping up their year and will enter kindergarten, as 30 new preschoolers start next year, Pereira said in a telephone interview from Haiti. The plan going forward is to bring in a new class of 30 preschoolers each year and add classes as the older students progress, Pereira said. Pereira, who is Indian, said he first felt called to mission work in Haiti when he lived in Florida. “I fell in love with this country,” he said. “I saw the need.
