The loss of such platforms coincides with broader attempts to control historical narratives, from attacks on the Smithsonian's National Museum of African-American History and Culture to efforts to sanitize or suppress depictions of Black resistance and creativity. In an age when Black music is both more accessible and more commodified than ever, its digital footprint is paradoxically fragile. Streaming platforms and algorithmic curation make it easy for histories and discographies to disappear. As record labels and media corporations deprioritize Black executives and programming, the risk of erasure grows. The challenge now is not simply to mourn the loss of television institutions but to build new public archives that democratize access to Black cultural history. Projects like the forthcoming Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx offer hope-a brick-and-mortar space created with community input that cannot be as easily shelved or suspended as a television broadcast. The long-term preservation of hip-hop's legacy will require more such efforts: institutions designed by and for the culture, resilient in the face of shifting commercial and political winds. Neal Schon Reflects on Steve Perry Rift and Journey's Future Plans

Neal Schon understands that fans would welcome a reunion between Steve Perry and Journey. However, the guitarist and co-founder says that door appears to be permanently closed, even on a personal level. In a 2012 interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, Schon said Perry's departure from Journey in 1998 was his own decision. "We didn't kick him out - he walked," Schon said. He added that he regrets the lack of contact with his former bandmate. "I hope that someday we can get to the point where I can pick up the telephone and talk to him without going through management and attorneys," he said in the interview. "I still don't quite realize why we can't just talk one on one, for whatever reason, just to say hello. Not to pressure anybody to do anything - it wouldn't be like that. Just in a friendly manner." While Schon and Perry stood together during Journey's 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Schon said their communication has not improved since then. "I have zero dialogue with him presently," Schon said in a recent interview with Eddie Trunk. Schon said he reached out to Perry via email, inviting him to a San Francisco Giants game, but did not receive a response. "You can't keep chasing something that's just not interested in connecting with you," Schon said. Despite the lack of communication, Schon said he wishes Perry well. "I think we've seen that he still wants to create, and more would be great," Schon said. "I was totally behind his 'Traces' album. I thought there was some very good material on it. I'd like to see him create some more." Asked about new music from Journey, Schon said he has been working on new material, but emphasized the importance of collaboration with the band. "I'm always working on new material and I've compiled quite a lot this year," he said. "We need to get in a room, throw ideas around, and see what happens. We get very inspired once we actually rehearse together. Anything could happen." Schon said that after a break from touring in 2025, Journey, with lead singer Arnel Pineda, plans to return to the road in the new year. The band has up to 120 shows booked over the next two years, including an April 25 appearance at the Stagecoach Music Festival. K-pop group TWICE announced the dates for its "This Is For" 2026 world tour Tuesday, with performances scheduled across North America, Europe and the United Kingdom. Las Vegas Faces One Of The Highest Unemployment Rates in U.S.

Las Vegas continues to face economic challenges as its jobless rate remains among the highest for large metro areas in the United States. In August, Southern Nevada posted a 5.6 percent unemployment rate, ranking fourth highest out of more than 50 metro areas with populations over 1 million, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In contrast, Birmingham, Alabama, and Honolulu reported the lowest unemployment rates at 2.5 percent, while Fresno, California, had the highest at 7.9 percent. Despite a slight decrease from July's 6 percent, Las Vegas' unemployment rate did not improve due to economic recovery. The region has been hit hard by a decline in tourism, its primary economic driver, leading to thousands of job losses in August. The drop in the jobless rate is partly attributed to the way labor-market data is collected-metro-level unemployment rates are not seasonally adjusted and do not account for normal seasonal changes in employment. Additionally, more than 2,000 people exited the local labor force between July and August, which mathematically lowers the unemployment rate since those who stop looking for work are no longer counted as unemployed. Meanwhile, seasonally adjusted employment figures from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show a month-to-month job decline of 4,300 positions in Las Vegas, with the labor market described as "largely stationary." Tourism in Southern Nevada is down significantly, with visitor numbers dropping 7.8 percent-over 2 million fewer people-through August compared to the same period last year, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. This decline in tourism has contributed to falling sales in sectors reliant on both visitors and locals. Food services and drinking establishments reported nearly $12.7 billion in taxable sales in Clark County for the 12 months through June, down almost 2 percent ($256.5 million) from the previous year. The Cars Surviving Members Working on New Album Featuring Ric Ocasek Recordings

The surviving members of The Cars are reportedly working on a new album using studio recordings left by frontman Ric Ocasek, who died in 2019. The information comes from Bill Janovitz's new book, "The Cars: Let the Stories Be Told," which includes contributions from all three surviving band members: guitarist Elliot Easton, drummer David Robinson and keyboardist Greg Hawkes. Bassist and singer Benjamin Orr died in 2000. Janovitz writes that a few years ago, Hawkes received more than two dozen tracks gathered by a close associate of Ocasek's. One song, "I Just Can't Stay," features both Orr and Ocasek on vocals and dates back to their time together before forming The Cars. Hawkes began working on the material with producer Ed Valauskas and engineer Joel Edinberg before bringing in Robinson and Easton. According to the book, Easton started adding guitar parts in August 2024, beginning with "I Just Can't Stay" and "Can't Stop the Rain." "Elliot's twenty-five second solo on 'Can't Stop the Rain' is sure to put smiles on the faces of fans, as it did for me," Janovitz writes. "And he added a hook that runs through the song, completely transforming it from the version I heard months before. 'There,' I thought. 'Along with Greg's synth part, that's how the band took Ric's demos and turned them into Cars songs.'" Other tracks mentioned include "The Factory" and "One by One," the latter of which was reportedly the last song Ocasek worked on. Two additional songs, "Crossing the Line" and "Crazy Over You," are believed to have originated from a jazz-influenced project Ocasek was developing. No official plans for the release of the material have been announced. However, the book states that the surviving band members and the estates of Orr and Ocasek "were all optimistic that disagreements about Cars business would not get in the way of giving their fans unheard Cars music." The Cars originally disbanded in 1988 following a tour in support of the 1987 album "Door to Door." The surviving four members reunited in 2011 for the release of "Move Like This," but parted ways again after the album's promotional cycle, reuniting only for their 2018 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Abandoned Fort Rapids Hotel to Become Affordable Apartments

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A Columbus developer plans to convert the long-abandoned Fort Rapids Hotel and Water Park into more than 300 affordable apartment units, potentially reviving a property that has sat vacant for nearly a decade along Interstate 70 and Hamilton Road. Maxwell Drever, of Drever Capital Management, announced plans to redevelop the shuttered hotel into housing with rents targeted at approximately $700 per month, aiming to address the city's shortage of affordable housing. The project, which Drever has named "Hamilton Rising," would repurpose the existing infrastructure on the site along the Hamilton corridor. "It's a generational opportunity to restore the Hamilton corridor," Drever said. The Fort Rapids property has remained closed and abandoned for nearly 10 years. Drever said the facility's existing amenities, including a large commercial kitchen, conference rooms, a restaurant and a bar, could provide opportunities for local entrepreneurs. "They've got a huge commercial kitchen, they've got these monster conference rooms that can be used for other things. It's got a restaurant, it's got a bar," Drever said. Drever said converting distressed hotel properties is a specialty of his company. "My hope is to see this as soon as possible up and running, and hopefully we can buy more broken hotels in Columbus," he said. The project is pending approval in probate court. Hearthstone Kitchen Returns to Red Rock Resort After Popular Demand

Diners spoke. Red Rock Resort listened. After nearly a decade serving as a local favorite, Hearthstone Kitchen & Cellar closed at Red Rock Resort in April 2023. It was replaced by Leoncito, a modern Mexican restaurant, in early November 2023. While Leoncito offered dishes like queso fundido, chicken tinga tacos, and lamb shank birria, Red Rock Resort continued to assess guests' preferences through focus groups. Scott Nelson, vice president and general manager of Red Rock, shared that feedback from these focus groups made it clear: guests missed Hearthstone. "If our guests feel particularly strongly about something, we want to create that experience for them," Nelson said. As a result, Leoncito closed on September 28, making way for Hearthstone's return. Reopening a closed, nonchain restaurant at a major Las Vegas resort is rare, but Clique Hospitality, which created the original Hearthstone, will also be behind the revival. Andy Masi, founder of Clique, recounted when Station Casinos decided to try a new concept as Hearthstone's original 10-year term ended. However, not long after, Station officials approached Clique with the idea of bringing Hearthstone back. "We're super excited. It's a concept near and dear to my heart," Masi said. With the return comes heightened expectations. "There is so much anticipation of Hearthstone coming back, we really have to deliver on that and create a restaurant as incredible as the old Hearthstone," Masi noted. He and his team are examining what made the original Hearthstone special, what could be improved, and how dining trends have evolved in the last decade. The revived Hearthstone will feature familiar menu favorites, including wood-fire pizzas, the French dip sandwich, and penne in pancetta cream sauce. Some dishes, like rotisserie whole pigs and chickens, won't return, but new offerings-such as red wine-braised short ribs with tomatoes, herbs, and housemade pappardelle, as well as seasonal fruit cobblers-will debut. The Doobie Brothers' latest album, "Walk This Road," is just four months old, though it was a couple of years in the making. "But we kind of miss sitting on a floor together, laying the song down and capturing that moment of the band playing together and sending the idea around the circle. It's going to change and be a new expression of the idea, and by the time it gets back to the original person, they almost don't recognize it. That can be torturous at times, too. But we've dedicated ourselves to the idea we're going to at least do some of that if we do another album. We feel that would be appropriate." McDonald said he does not know when the process for a new album might begin. The Doobie Brothers toured Europe and North America over the summer, with the late Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band opening the North American shows. The band has one more show scheduled, Dec. 5 in Lincoln, California, and McDonald said the group is discussing tour dates for next year. "But at this age the first question that comes to mind is, 'Am I going to be alive then?'" he said. McDonald said he has been pleased by the audience's response to the four "Walk This Road" songs the band played during its shows. "Back in the day, you'd start playing new material early, and it was always a good excuse for the audience to go to the bathroom because they really wanted to hear the hits and the songs they're familiar with," McDonald said. "So we're always cognizant of that. This is the first time in a long time we've noticed that people kind of know 'Walk This Road' from the streams we've been lucky enough to get. And with the Doobies, I kind of fall into the position of being the keyboard player more than I do with my own band. The Rolling Stones will release an expanded edition of their 13th studio album, "Black and Blue," with a "Super Deluxe" box set scheduled for release on Nov. 14 through Interscope/UMe. Local Businesses Worry Bus Rapid Transit Changes May Hurt Reynoldsburg

REYNOLDSBURG, O.H. (AUDILOUS) - If you are a regular customer at Jolly Pirate Donuts on East Main Street, you have likely met owner Dino Soulas or one of his family members. The shop, located at the corner of East Main Street and Rosehill Road, has operated since 1972 and has long served drivers heading west into the city, who make a left turn to reach the business. That left turn, however, will soon be eliminated. "For morning traffic, most of the cars are heading west. We're on the wrong side of the street," Soulas said. "People don't want to leave the line to get coffee and donuts, only to have to get back into it." A bus rapid transit line planned for East Main Street will eliminate some traffic lanes to make room for dedicated bus lanes in the center of the roadway. This plan will also remove the option for left turns at certain points along East Main Street. The project is funded by the LinkUS COTA levy, which voters approved in November 2024. Soulas and his customers expressed concern that the changes could hurt business. "It would make a lot of things very difficult. That would interfere with everybody on this north side of Main Street," said customer Derrick Widzinski. Other business owners are asking COTA and the city of Reynoldsburg to conduct an economic study to assess the impact on businesses along East Main Street that rely on vehicle traffic. They are also worried the changes could worsen congestion in an area already prone to traffic bottlenecks, especially during crashes. "If there's a problem on I-70, which happens quite often, traffic gets rediverted onto Main Street. So you take a bad situation and make it even worse," Soulas said. Soulas said a study would help him prepare for the changes. He also hopes for adjustments to the plan to preserve as many turning lanes as possible. "I am a simple donut man, so a lot of that is above my pay grade. But what we were hoping for- we understand this is something that has to be done- but at least it's not something that has to be done at our expense, so that left-hand turns will be allowed," Soulas said. A COTA representative told 10TV that while no long-term economic studies have been conducted specifically for this corridor, preliminary analyses of the long-term economic development outcomes for bus rapid transit have taken place, as required by federal regulations for major transit investments. COTA officials said they gathered community feedback before the levy, including a rapid transit open house on the east side attended by about 30 people, and a presentation to the Reynoldsburg Chamber of Commerce with 40 attendees. The current plans include left-turn opportunities along East Main Street. LAS VEGAS (AP) - Carlos Santana has announced his first set of show dates for 2026, expanding his longstanding Las Vegas residency. The guitarist has added more than 15 performances to "An Intimate Evening With Santana: Greatest Hits Live" at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay. The newly announced concerts are scheduled for January, February and May 2026. These shows join nearly a dozen performances remaining on Santana's 2025 calendar, marking the 14th year of residency performances by Santana and his band at the Las Vegas venue. Santana, 76, postponed two tour dates in Texas in April after collapsing during a soundcheck. He has since resumed performing, including a series of overseas festival dates and the start of his latest Las Vegas run on Sept. 17. Earlier this year, Santana postponed additional Las Vegas shows after a fall at his home.
