Peter Gabriel Announces Double Album Project with o\i Releasing November 27

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Thu, 1 Oct 2026 14:11 GMT

Peter Gabriel will release two albums as a joint project, totaling 25 tracks. He described the works as "i/o: the inside has a new way out" and "o\i: the outside has a new way in." The second LP, "o\i," is set for release Nov. 27."This record has been more of a marathon than a sprint. It's the longest album I have ever put out," Gabriel said in a statement. "The songs are a mix of thoughts and feelings. I have been thinking about the future and how we might respond to it."The album's themes will be presented in both "Bright-Side" and "Dark-Side" mixes, following the approach used on "i/o." Mark "Spike" Stent mixed the "Bright-Side" versions. Tchad Blake handled the "Dark-Side" mixes."We are sliding into a period of transition like no other, most likely triggered in three waves: AI, quantum computing and the brain-computer interface," Gabriel said. "Artists have a role to look into the mists and, when they catch sight of something, to hold up a mirror."Pre-orders for "o\i" are open. The "Bright-Side" and "Dark-Side" mixes will be available as separate two-LP releases. A four-CD set will include two different stereo mixes of both albums. A digital-only Dolby Atmos "In-Side" mix will also be available.Recording sessions for "o\i" included guitarist David Rhodes, bassist Tony Levin and drummer Manu Katche. Brian Eno and others also contributed. The track listing contains both older and newer songs."Sometimes things take time," Gabriel said. "Most people do stuff a lot faster, but I have no problem with understanding my own process. Some things will mature and evolve spontaneously and some will just stay hidden away in a box until their moment in the light appears."The "o\i" track listing includes:1. Been Undone 2. Put the Bucket Down 3. What Lies Ahead 4. Till Your Mind Is Shining 5. Won't Stand Down 6. Who Are We Talking To? 7. Yes, It Will Go 8. One by One 9. A Hard Lesson 10. Face the Wall 11. I Belong to the Sky 12. Looking for the Happy 13. Sacrament

Judas Priest Announces 2027 Festival Dates and Vows to Keep Touring

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Wed, 23 Sep 2026 14:09 GMT

Judas Priest has announced its first performances for 2027.The band will play two major festivals next year. Judas Priest will join the lineup at Tons of Rock in Oslo, Norway, scheduled for June 23-26. Other acts include Motley Crue, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gwar and Turnstile. The band is also set to headline the Tuska festival in Helsinki, Finland, from July 2-4. Lorna Shore, Children of Bodom and The Devil Wears Prada are also on the bill. These festival announcements come just days after Judas Priest wrapped up its 2026 European tour. The 27-show run took the group to 14 countries, including England, France, Germany, Spain and Italy.Bassist Ian Hill and singer Rob Halford are now in their mid-70s. Some fans have raised questions about how long the band can keep touring, given the demands of their shows and travel schedule. Halford has repeatedly said he has no plans to retire."I'm here to do something that I'm blessed and grateful to have to do," Halford said in 2025. "This voice, it's still doing the business. It's not really going to some of the places I wish it would. But it's still doing the business. And, like I say, that desire for me has never left. I've been clean and sober 36, 38 years - who's counting? My drug is getting on that stage. That's my drug. I get my kicks, if that's the right word, euphemism of what I'm talking about. I need to do it, man. I need to do it. It's important to me. It's what drives me. It's what I thrive on. So, as long as I'm here and as long as I've got the voice and the physical ability, I ain't stopping, man. I'm not stopping."Do you think the band will keep defying expectations? How long do you hope to see Judas Priest continue on the road?

The band made the announcement after a public search for singers in North America for 2027 and beyond.Torra, who fronts the New Jersey hair metal band Fire 'N Ice, is the eighth full-time singer in Quiet Riot's history and the sixth since the death of founding singer Kevin DuBrow in 2007. We all heard it: an authentic sound that brings our material to life the way it's meant to be heard. He may be young, but he's dedicated and professional. Sammy Hagar Plans Final Van Halen Shows and Teases Space Opera Project

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 21 Sep 2026 14:09 GMT

LAS VEGAS - If you want to catch Sammy Hagar's Best of All Worlds tour, you may need to act soon. His five-show residency in Las Vegas could be your last chance. The tour, which began in 2024, features Hagar with longtime bandmates Michael Anthony and Joe Satriani. The shows highlight Hagar's decade as Van Halen's lead singer, with most of the setlist coming from the band's four studio albums released during his tenure. After two years, Hagar says he is ready to move on."I'm kinda done with being the Van Halen guy," Hagar told SiriusXM's Eddie Trunk this week. "I'll always keep some of it in my show. Originally, the Best of All Worlds tour with Joe Satriani was supposed to be just once, in 2024. But it was so successful that we got the Las Vegas residency, which is what I really wanted."During the residency, Hagar said he can play more songs from his 50-year career, not just the biggest hits."When you're on tour, you only get one shot in each city, so you focus on the most popular songs," he said. "The residency lets me dig into Montrose, the Red Album, the Red Rocker era, pre-Van Halen, the Geffen years. I want to do more than just Van Halen. Mike and I kind of have to play those songs, and I like it, but I owe my old fans more than that."Hagar also wants to tackle another project."I want to do my science fiction show. I don't know how many shows I have left," he said. "I wrote a space opera when I left Montrose in 1975. Every album I did had a space song on it - 'Silver Lights,' 'Someone Out There,' 'Space Station 5,' 'Space Age Sacrifice.' 'Crack in the World' predicted what's going on in 2025. I don't know where that came from. In Van Halen, 'Love Walks In' was part of that. These are all part of my rock opera, and I want to do it. Not as a play, but as a production in small rooms, playing the whole thing from 'Hot Rock' to 'Silver Lights.' It's a concept show. People can figure out what I'm saying."Hagar said fans should not expect these projects to happen right away. He plans to take a break after this year's annual birthday bash."I'm taking a long break," he told Trunk. "I'm going to figure out what I want to do next year. No tour next year as of now. It won't be a Best of All Worlds-type tour. I'll figure it out. I'm going to be 80 years old next year. I never thought that was possible. I've only got so many miles left on my tires, and I don't want to have a blowout on the freeway."

Sebastian Bach Says Twisted Sister Debut Was Emotional, Talks Setlist Choices

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 14 Sep 2026 14:37 GMT

Sebastian Bach described feeling emotional before his debut fronting Twisted Sister, saying he nearly teared up before taking the stage in New Jersey.Bach replaced longtime frontman Dee Snider, who retired from touring due to health concerns. Bach's first show with Twisted Sister took place Aug. 28 in New Jersey. He spoke about the experience in a recent interview with radio station KATT."It was awesome, because Twisted Sister's not the first band that I started in New Jersey," Bach said, referencing his time with Skid Row. "When all five of Twisted Sister walked in the room and the crowd saw me, they gave me a really heartwarming, New Jersey-style welcome."Bach said the moment before going on stage made him emotional."I almost got teary-eyed because we were right about to go on, an AC/DC song is playing, and 'What You Don't Know (Sure Can Hurt You)' by Twisted is such an intense opener," he said. "I've always thought it was one of the best opening songs of any band. I can't fake chills in my arms. Just thinking about that intro gives me chills."When asked if he felt nervous about replacing Snider, Bach pointed to another source of stress."The nerves that I get as a singer is not really the show," he said. "It's the fact that every single person is holding up their phone and filming it. Before I get to my hotel room, the whole show is being dissected and analyzed. No musician likes that. It really sucks. Thank God I'm talented as f-."Twisted Sister's recent setlists have mostly focused on the band's classic songs. The group has also included a few Skid Row tracks in their shows."I mean, why not?" Bach said. "I'm pretty sure when Paul Rodgers filled in for Freddie Mercury in Queen, they did a couple of Bad Company tunes. And it just makes sense. I learned how to be Sebastian from locking myself in my bedroom and singing along to Twisted Sister albums 'Under the Blade' and 'You Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll'-and 'Stay Hungry.' My passion for Twisted is kind of before Atlantic Records got too involved. 'You Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll' is such a metal album. And more so is 'Under the Blade.' Very, very metal."Twisted Sister's tour with Bach continues through the fall and is scheduled to end Dec. 11 in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Billy Joel Shares Health Update After Brain Surgery for Hydrocephalus

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Thu, 10 Sep 2026 14:11 GMT

Billy Joel has shared a health update, revealing he underwent brain surgery after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus in May 2025.Joel announced the diagnosis last year and canceled all tour plans to focus on his health. In a recent recording on his SiriusXM channel, Joel said he first noticed balance problems."I noticed that my balance was not good," Joel said. "I had this sense of being on a boat, like this rocking motion. I wasn't steady on my feet. I didn't know why that was. I went to meet with the neurologist and I was diagnosed with having something called normal pressure hydrocephalus, which they used to call water on the brain. Nobody's really sure what causes it, but they're able to diagnose it."Doctors warned that the condition could worsen and recommended a procedure to implant a shunt in his brain."I said, 'Well, what does that entail?'" Joel recalled. "Well, we drill a hole through your skull and we stick a shunt inside your brain," the doctor explained. "I said, 'Nah, I think I'll pass on that.' I didn't want to do that."Joel said he later researched the procedure and decided to go ahead with the surgery."I read up on it and realized it can help improve your balance and can help your memory," he said. "I don't want to lose my marbles. It's hard to tell what's age and what's a condition. So, I agreed to do the shunt and I had a surgery and they implanted a shunt in my brain and it actually improved things. My memory got better, my balance got a little better, my ability to function was better."Joel said his doctors told him that performing loud rock concerts was "giving me something like a concussion every time I did a show. It was causing damage to my brain nerves and I could be losing more brain cells the more I played, the more shows I did. And I realized that means I shouldn't be doing this right now. I gotta improve."Since announcing his diagnosis, Joel has made only one public performance-a surprise two-song guest appearance with a Billy Joel tribute band in January. He said he remains focused on recovery."They don't want me to stress too much. So, I'm doing physical therapy. I'm doing whatever it is they tell me to do because I don't want to lose it," Joel said. "I know people have heard, 'Oh, he's got a brain disorder.' And I'm okay. I just want people to know, don't worry about me. I'm not going anywhere. I'm here. I'm still here."

TORONTO - The City of Toronto has ordered Live Nation to repair Rogers Stadium after a storm caused major damage on Sept. 2, ahead of AC/DC's scheduled concert on Sept. 16.The storm tore apart sections of the bleachers and led to a partial collapse of the grandstand. City inspectors assessed the damage on Sept. 3 and issued a seven-part order for repairs required before the venue can reopen, according to Global News.Live Nation must limit access to the site, hire an engineer, submit a plan for repairs, secure a building permit and meet safety requirements before reopening the venue to the public. The company must submit its repair proposal by Sept. 8.A Live Nation spokesperson said, "The inspection, assessment and remediation of structures affected by significant weather events, like a red-level storm of this nature, is a standard process, and we remain engaged with the City as that work continues."AC/DC has not commented on the situation. As of Tuesday, no postponement or cancellation has been announced. The Toronto concert is set to be the third-to-last show of the band's Power Up tour, which began July 11 and includes stops in Charlotte, Denver, Las Vegas and Atlanta.

Bruce Springsteen to Release New Concert Film Showcasing E Street Band Tour and Political Themes

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Tue, 8 Sep 2026 11:23 GMT

Bruce Springsteen plans to release a new concert film via streaming on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Details on where the film will be available have not been announced. The upcoming film features footage from Springsteen's recent tour with the E Street Band, recorded in Philadelphia earlier this year. The "Land of Hope and Dreams" tour included 20 shows and followed national events such as the January deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. Those events inspired Springsteen to write and record the song "Streets of Minneapolis."The E Street Band tour opened in Minneapolis on March 31. Guitarist Tom Morello postponed his own tour to join Springsteen and the band for the run of concerts. In a statement, Springsteen said, "We are living through dark, disturbing and dangerous times, but do not despair - the cavalry is coming! Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be taking the stage this spring from Minneapolis to California to Texas to Washington, D.C. for the Land of Hope and Dreams American tour." The tour ended in Washington, D.C. on May 27.Springsteen added, "We will be rocking your town in celebration and in defense of America - American democracy, American freedom, our American Constitution and our sacred American dream - all of which are under attack by our wannabe king and his rogue government in Washington, D.C. Everyone, regardless of where you stand or what you believe in, is welcome - so come on out and join the United Free Republic of E Street Nation for an American spring of Rock 'n' Rebellion! I'll see you there!"Springsteen has faced criticism for his political statements. Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain recently called Springsteen "an annoying, bitter old man" and said he should "shut up" and focus on his music.Springsteen's outspoken views have also led to security concerns. Guitarist Steven Van Zandt told the Daily Mail, "This tour has been a little bit different because of the high security. It's a very specific political theme to this tour and there's been a lot of threats, death threats. Usually there's always some, but this time it's been increasing."While off the road this summer, Springsteen appeared as a guest with Jon Bon Jovi during the Bon Jovi concert at Madison Square Garden on July 26.Springsteen also released a new vintage concert from his archives on Friday, Sept. 4. The show, from the Tunnel of Love tour, was recorded July 2, 1988, at Stockholms Stadion in Stockholm, Sweden. It joins an earlier release from the same venue recorded the following day.

Hugo Valenti Fulfills His Journey Dream as Steve Perry Stand-In on Final Frontier Tour

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Wed, 2 Sep 2026 14:13 GMT

Hugo Valenti, a longtime Steve Perry impersonator, joined Journey for two shows in Japan during the band's Final Frontier Tour in 2026. He had spent years preparing for such a moment.Neal Schon, Journey's only remaining original member, once stood in Valenti's way. In the late 1990s, Schon decided not to invite Valenti to audition for the band. Decades later, keyboardist Jonathan Cain helped open the door for Valenti's recent guest appearances.Valenti, who grew up on Long Island, traced his passion for Perry and Journey back to his school days. "Early on, I was in junior high school, and I started taking voice lessons," Valenti told MassLive in 2024. "Journey had just hit the scene, and I heard him sing and it was just one of those things."Valenti said Perry's voice was "powerful but without that rasp" and set him apart from other rock singers. He modeled his vocal style and stage presence after Perry, even mimicking Perry's outfits. Still, he did not join a Journey tribute band until later in his career.Valenti first signed a record deal with the band Valentine in the late 1980s. Their self-titled debut, produced by Neil Kernon, arrived in 1990. As the music scene shifted in the early 1990s, Valentine became Open Skyz, which released an album in 1993 and opened for acts like KISS and Mr. Big. The group never achieved major commercial success. "You get signed, you get dropped; you get signed, you get dropped. It's just up and down too much," Valenti told Long-Islander News in 2017.By the 2000s, Valenti saw tribute bands as a new path. "All along the way, I was always compared to Steve Perry. The music was compared to Journey," Valenti said. "So, I said, 'You know what, tribute bands are kind of happening now. Maybe I'll just start a tribute band and see what happens.'"Valenti's first close encounter with Journey came after Perry left the band following the 1996 album "Trial by Fire." Journey's A&R representative contacted Valenti about joining the group. "I had gotten a phone call from John Kalodner at Sony saying that Perry was out of the band and it was time for me to get my Journey records out," Valenti told Melodic.net in 2003. Schon, who knew Valenti from his Valentine days, decided against an audition. "I remember seeing him in a video and he looked exactly like Perry, which I thought was really weird," Schon told Melodic Rock in 1998. Journey instead hired Steve Augeri.Valenti formed the tribute band Voyage in 2005. "As it happens, people in the Journey organization decided too many similarities may have been a detriment to the continuation of the band," Valenti said. "It was a hard one to swallow, but hearing Steve Augeri fit so well, it was the right decision for the band."Voyage became popular among Journey fans, especially while Perry was off the road due to health issues. "It went from just doing clubs, to then clubs and theaters, and then from theaters to casinos and private shows," Valenti told MassLive.Valenti stayed with Voyage for about 20 years, also releasing original music, including 2008's "The Dream" with Josh Ramos as Ramos-Hugo, the Valentine reunion "Soul Salvation," and 2023's "Inception" with Hugo's Voyage. "What makes Voyage so inviting is the fact that people miss Steve Perry," Valenti told Rock Pages in 2023.After the pandemic, Valenti completed a set of original songs for Frontiers Music. By late 2024, he left Voyage and launched Hugo: The Ultimate Journey Tribute, which features drummer Adam Augeri, son of Steve Augeri."With Journey in particular, they're one of the bands where when you hear it, you want to hear it again, and again, and again," Valenti said. He joked that "Don't Stop Believin'" might be an exception because "everyone's heard it a thousand times."Journey's invitation to Valenti for the 2026 Japan shows followed Cain's growing connection with Valenti. Cain's wife is a spiritual advisor to former President Donald Trump, and Cain has appeared at Trump-related events. At a May 2025 event for Trump Tower Dubai, Cain performed with a band that included Valenti, who sang "Don't Stop Believin'."Valenti later joined Journey onstage to sing "Faithfully" during their Aug. 29 show at the Greatest Rock Fukuoka Festival and again on Sept. 1 at Tokyo's Ariake Arena. He also sang "Keep on Runnin'" during the second show.Valenti will appear again with Hugo: The Ultimate Journey Tribute on Sept. 11 at the Hoboken Italian Festival in New Jersey. Journey will play the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles the next night.

Iron Maiden Announces Final Tour Dates Before Extended Break

Iron Maiden will not attend this fall's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, but the band remains active on the road.Frontman Bruce Dickinson has started scheduling solo shows while Iron Maiden continues its Run For Your Lives Tour across North America, South America, East Asia and Oceania. The tour features songs from early albums, including their 1980 self-titled debut through 1992's "Fear of the Dark." Guitarist Adrian Smith told Billboard, "It's great playing that set. It's songs from way back, and they still sound great when you give them an airing. They still sound fresh and powerful."Iron Maiden first toured the United States and Canada in 1981. For more information and tickets, visit the band's official website.During the opening shows of the current tour in Toronto, Dickinson commented on the band's absence from North America. "How long has it been since we have been to Toronto? Too long, too long. And in Canada, in fact," Dickinson told fans at Scotiabank Arena. "We got here, we crossed Lake Ontario. We will be crossing the Gulf of Mexico. It is a ridiculous state of the world."The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The band will be traveling between concerts in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, on those dates.Dickinson told Classic Rock magazine that such industry honors do not matter to the band. "The BRITs, the Grammys, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, all of it is utterly irrelevant to us," he said. "What's No. 1 at the moment? I couldn't tell you. It's meaningless. All I care about is what Iron Maiden are doing next week."The Run For Your Lives Tour began in 2025 and includes multi-night stops in New Jersey and California in September. The tour then continues with shows in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, New Zealand, Australia and Japan. After the Yokohama, Japan, concerts on Nov. 24 and 25, Iron Maiden will take a break from touring. Management said these will be the "very last shows the band will play until at least 2028, as they take a well-earned break from being on the road for the whole of 2027."Dickinson will follow the tour with his first solo project since 2024. "The album is heavy as s-," he said after recording at Dave Grohl's studio. This album will not be packaged with a comic book series as with The Mandrake Project. "It's kind of standalone," Dickinson said.Dickinson will also perform a special concert with the Beethoven Academy Orchestra in Poland. Anika Nilles Brings Playful Energy to Rush Tour Reviving Band Spirit and Legacy

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 31 Aug 2026 14:13 GMT

DETROIT - If anyone questioned how well Anika Nilles has fit in with Rush, her recent onstage pranks during the Fifty Something tour have provided a clear answer.Nilles joined bandmates Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson after a demanding year of rehearsals. The tour marks Rush's return to the stage 11 years after the late Neil Peart retired, a moment many thought would be the end of the band. With Nilles on drums and Loren Gold on keyboards, Rush has found new energy, and Nilles' playful antics on stage show the group's renewed spirit. In a recent video from the band's Aug. 26 show at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Nilles leaves Lee and Lifeson holding the final chord of "Working Man." She steps away, eats some chips, and offers them to her bandmates. When they decline, she puts the bag away and tries to catch them off-guard by hitting her final notes unexpectedly, but they are ready for her.YouTuber Rush101 compiled at least 10 of these pranks in a video. In one clip, Nilles reacts with a confused expression as Lee and Lifeson make faces at each other. In another, she snaps a selfie with the trio. At another show, she reads a newspaper while the final chord rings out. She even appeared in costume as The Bag, a character familiar to longtime Rush fans. These moments highlight how the band is engaging with each other and the audience in new ways. How do you think this playful approach is shaping Rush's legacy?

Queen released a new 100-second trailer in 4K for the 40th anniversary edition of its final concert film, "Queen: Budapest."The film was recorded during the band's visit to Budapest in 1986. The event marked the first time a Western rock band staged a stadium concert behind the Iron Curtain."This is going to be the most real experience of us, Queen, in our glory days," guitarist Brian May said when the anniversary edition was announced. "I think people will get lost in it and even forget they're watching a film."The trailer shows scenes on and off stage, captured on and around July 27, 1986. Peter Jackson's Park Road Post Production remastered the footage, originally shot with 17 cameras. The audio was also remastered from the original multitrack tapes."For years, fans behind the Iron Curtain could only listen to Queen on illegal cassettes," May said. "It was forbidden to listen to rock bands like us, so seeing us live was unthinkable.""This concert, when they could finally see us live and interact, was a huge emotional moment for them and for us," May said. "You could feel the energy. There will never be an event quite like that again.""Queen: Budapest" opens in theaters and select IMAX locations Oct. 7. A general release follows Oct. 30 on Blu-ray, DVD, triple-vinyl, double-CD and digital formats. For more details and ticket information, visit the "Queen: Budapest" website.

Remembering Dolly: The Time She Teamed Up with Steve Perry for Rock Album Debut

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Tue, 25 Aug 2026 16:07 GMT

Dolly Parton announced plans to record her first rock album after her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November 2022. Parton, who built her career as a country artist, said she wanted to justify her recognition by venturing into the rock genre."This has inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock and roll album at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do," Parton said.Soon after, Parton began revealing potential collaborators, including former Journey frontman Steve Perry. Perry confirmed his participation on social media, writing, "If Dolly says it's true, then it must be true. Her voice is amazing."Parton's 30-track album features covers of songs she admires and includes collaborations with artists such as Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, Sting, Elton John, Melissa Etheridge, Lizzo, Richie Sambora, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Michael McDonald, John Fogerty, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Debbie Harry, and her goddaughter Miley Cyrus. For her duet with Perry, Parton chose Journey's 1981 hit "Open Arms." "Steve Perry is singing with me on it, and he's the one that had the original on that years ago," Parton said. "It was a big hit."Perry co-wrote "Open Arms" with keyboardist Jonathan Cain for Journey's seventh album, "Escape." The song reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and appeared on the soundtrack for the 1981 film "Heavy Metal." Mariah Carey also found success with her cover of "Open Arms" on her 1995 album "Daydream."Parton's version adds her signature vocal style, with Perry providing backing vocals. Perry last performed the song live with Journey in 1991 at a tribute concert for promoter Bill Graham in San Francisco."I have been a Dolly Parton fan for years and years, and to sing one of my songs with her was truly a thrill," Perry said. "When I first got the track I could not believe how strong and amazing her voice was. I did my very best to keep up with that girl, but boy she's got fire. And to quote her on my telephone, she said, 'I think we harmonize well together, don't you?' And I said, 'Absolutely, my dear. Absolutely.'"Parton shared that "Open Arms" holds personal meaning. Her late husband, Carl Dean, once suggested she record it as a duet with longtime collaborator Kenny Rogers. Parton and Rogers recorded several duets over the years, including "Islands in the Stream," "Real Love," and "You Can't Make Old Friends.""My husband always loved it and always thought I should have recorded it with Kenny Rogers, but I never got a chance to do that," Parton said. "So, when I started doing the rock album, I thought, 'Well, I'm going to record 'Open Arms,' and then I'm going to ask Steve Perry to sing it with me.' I wish I had written it."

Bret Michaels Pauses Tour for Several Months After Kidney Stone Surgery, Citing Health Concerns

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 24 Aug 2026 14:13 GMT

SUGAR HILL, Ga. - Bret Michaels will take several months off from touring as he continues to recover from complicated kidney stone surgery, according to a statement posted to his social media accounts.Michaels, the lead singer of Poison, performed Friday night at The Bowl in Sugar Hill, Georgia. After the show, doctors and paramedics determined he needed more rest and recovery time.Michaels was hospitalized last month after performing multiple shows in what he described as "intense" pain. Doctors diagnosed him with a complicated obstructing kidney stone that required immediate surgery. He also received a ureteral stent. At the time, Michaels was also dealing with a lower back compression fracture and managing his lifelong Type 1 diabetes. Doctors initially told him to take three to four weeks off to recover.Michaels returned to the stage Friday, but doctors ordered a longer break due to ongoing health concerns. As a result, he will miss his scheduled performance Saturday at the Mountain Music Festival in Tennessee.Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel, Michaels' physicians, said in a statement, "We will be pulling Bret off the road for the time being. He wanted to attempt this show, but we feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels."Michaels Entertainment Group apologized for the cancellations and said they look forward to his return once he has fully recovered.

"Elwood (Francis, bassist) and I got an unexpected call from our dear Frank Beard, our dear drummer for 50 years. I've never heard him admit, he said, 'My bass drum foot's a little weak. Can you get my man to take over?' I said, 'Oh yeah, yeah, he's been doing pretty good.' Frank said, 'Yeah, that's what worries me.'"Gibbons told the crowd, "We're all here for a celebration," and encouraged fans to enjoy the night. Earlier in the week, he paid tribute to Beard in a statement, calling him a "great friend and collaborator."Throughout the night, ZZ Top played a mix of blues-rock staples and hits, including "Waitin' for the Bus," "Jesus Just Left Chicago," "Gimme All Your Lovin'," "Cheap Sunglasses," "Sharp Dressed Man" and "Legs."Francis, who replaced bassist Dusty Hill after his death in 2021, brought energy and humor to the performance. He played a bright yellow, 17-string bass and matched Gibbons with a series of eye-catching instruments, including fur-covered guitars. Gibbons introduced Francis by saying, "This is a special night. He just got out of prison," before launching into "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide."Gibbons also played his solo song "Brown Paper Bag" and briefly mentioned a new album, but quickly returned to ZZ Top classics. The band ended the show with "La Grange." Gibbons, Francis and Monahan took a bow and left the stage. ZZ Top is scheduled to play again at the Moody Theater on Sunday. Their current tour runs through late November.Gibbons and his bandmates have continued touring after the losses of both Hill and Beard, suggesting they plan to perform as long as they are able.

Def Leppard's Vivian Campbell Says Cancer Has Returned After Failed Transplant

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Fri, 21 Aug 2026 14:12 GMT

Vivian Campbell, guitarist for Def Leppard, said his cancer has returned after a donor transplant did not succeed.Campbell was first diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2013. He underwent bone marrow surgery last year and was declared in remission afterward. In a recent interview with YSKL FM, Campbell said he now needs more treatment."There's only been one time that I felt [cancer] was going to kill me," Campbell said. "In the winter of 2023, I got really scared about what was happening and the pace at which it was happening. I realized at that point I had to do a donor transplant. It was my only hope to survive."I did that in January of '25 - I did a donor transplant. Unfortunately, it didn't stick. So the cancer has returned. And I'm continuing treatments to manage it."Campbell said he may need another transplant in a few years with a different donor. "But in the meantime, I'm not slowing down," he said. "I'm doing as much with my life as possible - not just with Def Leppard and with Last In Line. I'm also rally driving - I always wanted to do that. I love cars and I love driving. As a child I thought, 'If I don't play guitar for a living, I'm going to be a race car driver.' I feel very fortunate that I get to do both."Campbell offered advice to those who receive a cancer diagnosis. He said life changes after hearing the news but believes it is possible to stay positive."I've met people in my life who think, 'Oh, I can't do anything. I need to stay in bed. I can't eat this. I can't do that. I can't go there.' I've never felt that way," he said."I've always felt like I'm going to continue to live my life as much as possible - in fact, even more so. I also consider myself fortunate because I caught my cancer early; it's always been more about managing my cancer."He added, "Life is for the living. I encourage everyone, if you're unfortunate enough to get a cancer diagnosis, to overcome the fear. Fear is inevitable when you're first told those words. But once you get over that, you've got to realize just how to manage it and how to deal with it as best as possible. And just don't give in."

Poison Drummer Rikki Rockett Opens Up About Life and Legacy in New Memoir

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Wed, 19 Aug 2026 14:13 GMT

Poison drummer Rikki Rockett held off publishing his memoir while his parents were alive to spare them from embarrassment, he said in a recent interview.Rockett's book, "Ghost Notes," co-written with Leif Eriksson and Martin Svensson, will be published Sept. 15 by Rare Bird Books. Speaking with This Day In Metal, Rockett discussed why he waited to release his story."I didn't want to embarrass my parents when they were alive by telling some of these stories," Rockett said. "And then I thought, 'Now I've got kids.' But I'm always going to have kids, and in a normal life, they're going to outlive me. So at some point, I got to do this. And they're old enough now that I can say, 'Let me explain this.' So I feel like that's OK now."Rockett said readers would expect details about "the bad things," mentioning Poison's drama at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards and his own battle with cancer."They're part of the ride," he said. "So I think I went pretty deeply into most of those-enough to give a lot of understanding."He admitted he chose not to include some stories after reconsidering. "There were a lot of things that I later said, 'You know what? I don't feel good about that. Let's reel that back in.'"Rockett said he tried not to throw anyone "under the bus.""If somebody feels that way, it'll be interesting to find out why they feel that way," he said.He wants readers to see him as a person, not just a rock musician."I want people to see me as a person, not just a fixture, and realize that-anybody, any musician or actor, entertainer-there's real feelings back there," Rockett said.Rockett expressed appreciation for his career and the band's fans."I am eternally grateful to be where I am and in the band I'm in and for what the fans have given us," he said.He shared a quote from Poison bandmate Bret Michaels that sums up his outlook: "Fame is what other people give you, and success is what you give yourself."

ZZ Top Drummer Frank Beard Dies at 75 After Decades of Rock Legacy

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Tue, 18 Aug 2026 17:19 GMT

RICHMOND, Texas - Frank Beard, longtime drummer for ZZ Top, died Aug. 17 at his ranch in Richmond, Texas, according to a statement from the band. He was in hospice care and surrounded by family.Guitarist and singer Billy Gibbons said in a statement, "Today, Elwood [Francis, bassist] and I lost a great friend and collaborator. And the world lost one of the most naturally innovative drummers and a great and true son of Texas. His signature backbeat was key to keeping ZZ on top."In March 2025, ZZ Top announced Beard would step away from the band's North American tour to address unspecified health issues.Beard joined Gibbons in ZZ Top about a year after Gibbons formed the group following his work with the Moving Sidewalks. In the 2020 documentary "That Little Ol' Band From Texas," Beard recalled, "I drove down to Houston, I hunted all over the place, found Billy Gibbons, made him go - I mean, just threatened him - made him go to the rehearsal studio. I made him jam for about eight hours till his tongue just fell out."Gibbons said in the same documentary, "It didn't take 30 minutes, didn't take 30 seconds. I knew that Frank Beard had the kind of chops that I was looking for. He played fiercely, he played with determination."Soon after, Beard recruited bassist Dusty Hill from his former band, American Blues. The trio's lineup - Beard, Gibbons and Hill - stayed together for more than 50 years, becoming one of rock's most enduring acts.Beard played on all 15 of ZZ Top's studio albums, from their 1971 debut "ZZ Top's First Album" to 2012's "La Futura." The group's blues-rock sound reflected influences from Texas and Mexico, where "border blasting" radio stations introduced them to the "country Jesus and hillbilly blues" mentioned in their 1975 single "Heard It on the X."As the band's profile grew with hits like "Tush" and "La Grange," ZZ Top took a break in 1977, partly so Beard could address substance abuse. "Frank goes all out on what he does, and that includes the bad things," Hill said in the documentary. Beard added, "The pills thing came about just from the workload." The break lasted nearly two years.Gibbons told CBS Sunday Morning in 2020, "There is no other drummer. There's one guy."Despite his last name, Beard was the only member of the trio without the now-famous chin-length beard sported by Gibbons and Hill.ZZ Top returned with the 1979 album "Deguello," showcasing a more experimental sound. Their 1983 album "Eliminator," with heavy use of synthesizers and drum machines, brought them unexpected mainstream success. The group continued to tour for decades, although their studio output slowed after the release of "XXX" in 1999.

"We really started metal festivals in this country. It was never done with the spirit of what ours was, because ours was a place for new talent. It was like summer camp for kids."The "Back to the Beginning" charity concert at Villa Park marked Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath's final performance. The event included tributes from Metallica, Yungblud, Slayer and others. Villa Park, home to Aston Villa F.C., is in Birmingham's Aston area, where Ozzy grew up and co-founded Black Sabbath in 1968 with Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler.

Anika Nilles Finds Confidence Joining Rush After Support from Neil Peart's Widow

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 17 Aug 2026 14:09 GMT

Rush's new drummer, Anika Nilles, said a message from Neil Peart's widow helped her settle nerves before her debut with the band.Nilles, a German musician, auditioned for five days before Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson chose her to join Rush on drums for their Fifty Something tour. She told Rolling Stone that learning to fit into the songs was one challenge, but an even bigger task was blocking out thoughts of Peart."In each song part I had to coach myself a little bit... not to fly away," Nilles said of the intense rehearsals after being hired. "That all helped not to think too much about how big that seat is and what role I'm filling in it." Her approach, she said, was to "be in the moment, be present, be focused."Nilles said it took time to understand what was expected. "I wasn't sure if I should prep every little detail, or to have the main parts down, but have some freedom here and there," she said.As she studied Peart's drumming, she realized she needed to adjust her own style. Instead of relying on stick control, she began lifting weights to build muscle for a more direct playing approach. "I have to play more out of muscle power," she said.Nilles said Peart's compositional style influenced her most. "Now, I have a little bit of Neil in me. What I learned for myself the most is the compositional part. He was brilliant in that, really. He constantly builds, and builds, and builds the drum part to a point where you think, 'What the hell is going on?'"Her confidence grew after Peart's widow, Carrie Nuttall, reached out before the first show. "I got a nice message from her, a really lovely message," Nilles said. "It was really nice to hear that she is on board and looking forward to this whole journey."As the Fifty Something tour continues, Nilles said she feels "really energized, and relieved." Asked what she told herself after her first shows, she laughed: "I made it through!"

Geddy Lee Says Rush Not Planning New Music, Focused on Current Tour

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Wed, 12 Aug 2026 15:51 GMT

Rush frontman Geddy Lee says the band is not considering new material at this time, as he and guitarist Alex Lifeson focus on their current tour after an 11-year hiatus.Lee and Lifeson recently returned to performing, joined by drummer Anika Nilles and keyboardist Loren Gold. Both musicians said preparing for the tour was the hardest they have ever worked."We had a schedule," Lifeson told Radio Futuro in a recent interview. "We laid out what our rehearsal schedule was going to be, with an end date being in May 2026, that we had to get everything done by then.""At the beginning we thought, 'Oh, that's plenty of time. We'll get it done!' The last couple of weeks were, like, 'Oh my God, we gotta really focus on this and really put it together!'"Lee said rehearsals were especially demanding for Nilles, who replaced the late Neil Peart."She had to learn something like 43 songs in the course of a year, and those are not easy drum parts to learn," Lee said. "She would work really hard on her own, then she would come to Toronto sporadically and we would work really hard together. I think she found it much easier to work with us in person, because there's a chemistry that we have. We can reassure her, 'This part is right, this part is this long, and no, you have to play this part this way.'"Lee added, "The last month, as Alex alluded to, we played a full show 24 nights out of 27 days. We've never worked that hard in our entire lives. I'm thankful for it, because opening night, we were all a bit of a nervous wreck. And all that rehearsal paid off."Lee also tried to help Nilles and Gold adapt to the challenge. "I said, 'Look, these are complicated songs. You are going to make a mistake. It's not about the mistake - it's about how you recover from the mistake. So just play; just keep playing and don't worry.'"He said this approach helped them relax. "When you write a part, it's automatically in your DNA; you understand it inside out. But when you're coming to learn it as an outsider, you try to break it down into the laws of music, and our songs don't adhere to the laws of music."Lee said he feels grateful for the current lineup's chemistry. "I'm ecstatic that we're playing so well and that the musicians we've chosen to join us on stage have jelled the way they have. I'm not pretending when you see me smiling up there."He noted that he wants to enjoy every show. "It's a joyous moment for me, and I know there are only so many gigs left in my body, so I'm going to enjoy them while I can."Asked about the possibility of new music, Lee said, "No. We have enough to do. We're still trying to remember the old songs and play them."

Rod Stewart Pauses Tour to Recover After Heart Procedure

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Wed, 12 Aug 2026 15:19 GMT

Rod Stewart is taking a break from touring after undergoing a routine coronary stent procedure, according to a statement shared on his official Instagram account."Following further medical evaluation, Sir Rod Stewart has successfully undergone a routine coronary stent procedure," the statement read. "Doctors are pleased with his recovery, and Rod is doing very well and has returned to his normal daily activities. On the advice of his doctors, he will take the next four weeks to recuperate and regain full fitness before returning to the stage. Unfortunately, this means he will be unable to continue his current tour dates."In a separate message, Stewart said he is already feeling better and thanked his medical team."I'm already feeling better and very much on the mend," Stewart said. "I want to thank the doctors, nurses and everyone who has taken such wonderful care of me. I'm deeply disappointed to miss these shows and sorry to let my fans down, but I look forward to getting back on stage and having a good time with you all again soon."The statements did not specify how many concerts Stewart will miss. He had 15 shows scheduled through mid-September, including stops in Cleveland, Kansas City and an extended run in Las Vegas. With a four-week recovery period, it appears all these dates will be postponed or canceled. Stewart's representatives said, "Information regarding affected performances will be communicated by the respective promoters and venues."This health concern adds to a series of medical setbacks for Stewart this year. In May, the 81-year-old canceled several Las Vegas residency shows and was placed on vocal rest following a sinus infection. He also canceled a performance in San Diego due to laryngitis and another sinus infection. In June, Stewart required an oxygen tank after nearly fainting onstage in Utah. Most recently, he canceled a scheduled show in Cincinnati on Aug. 9, citing an "unforeseen but minor medical procedure that required prompt attention."

Lindsey Buckingham Reconnects with Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac for New Documentary and Future Pro

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 10 Aug 2026 04:17 GMT

Lindsey Buckingham says reflecting on the past has helped him reconnect with his Fleetwood Mac bandmates, especially Stevie Nicks.Speaking to E! News at Variety's Power of Young Hollywood event in Los Angeles, Buckingham described work on an upcoming Fleetwood Mac documentary as "a very circular healing process for all of us.""We had left things in 2019, maybe as far as I was concerned, not in a very good place for all the wrong reasons," Buckingham said, referencing the rift that led to his temporary departure from the band. "No one was happy about it, and all of that has been healed and worked out."Buckingham acknowledged that his relationship with Nicks, often strained over the years, has changed. "Stevie and I are talking all the time now," he said.Apple announced nearly two years ago that it would produce a documentary about Fleetwood Mac, directed by Frank Marshall. The film will feature rare insights from surviving members. No release date has been set, but it is expected in 2027.Last year, Buckingham and Nicks re-released their 1973 album, "Buckingham Nicks," which reached No. 3 on the Top Album Sales chart in September. The collaboration followed years of tension, including Buckingham's dismissal from Fleetwood Mac in 2018. Nicks reportedly played a key role in that decision after Buckingham wanted to postpone the band's tour to focus on his solo work. The split came shortly after the pair disagreed over their appearance at the MusiCares Person of the Year gala.Buckingham later sued the band, claiming he was dismissed without cause and lost millions in earnings. The dispute was settled in December 2018.Looking ahead, Buckingham hinted at more projects with his bandmates. "Next year should be a pretty interesting year," he told E! News. "I think quite a few things will reveal themselves."

Phil Collins says he nearly died in early 2024 during a struggle with alcohol addiction. In an interview with The Sunday Times, Collins said doctors first admitted him to a Swiss hospital in November 2023 because of his drinking. He was discharged before Christmas but readmitted a few weeks later and placed in intensive care, where he fell unconscious."My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up," Collins told the newspaper. "People were coming to say goodbye. But I don't remember them coming. I had no idea this was going on. They were all worried that they wouldn't see me again. It could all have gone so terribly wrong."Collins said his five children rushed to the hospital, believing their father was dying. "There were some decisions to be made about, 'Do we keep Phil on life support?' kind of thing," he said. The Genesis frontman said he spent seven months in the hospital recovering. "I was very lucky to have come out of that," Collins said. "Needless to say, I haven't had a drink since."Collins has spoken publicly about his struggles with alcohol, partly related to chronic back injuries. In his 2016 memoir, he wrote about drinking alone in Switzerland, staring out a skylight and feeling isolated.Earlier this year, Collins discussed his health, saying he had endured "a difficult, frustrating few years" because of five knee surgeries. "I have a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication as I should," he said. "I've had challenges with my knee. Everything that could go wrong with me, did go wrong with me."Collins had previously said he "spent months in hospital" because of his drinking, but the new interview is the first time he has described how close he came to dying.

Tommy Lee addressed Motley Crue's split with guitarist Mick Mars during an appearance on "The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan."The drummer joined the show to discuss topics including Motley Crue's 2014 "cessation of touring" agreement, the band's comeback after the 2019 release of their biopic "The Dirt" and more.In the second half of the interview, Corgan asked Lee about the lawsuit Mars filed against the band following his departure in late 2022. The lawsuit has since been settled. Corgan asked if Lee wanted to comment on the situation."For me, that whole thing was awkward and really hurtful to the point where people are saying untrue things," Lee said. "I was like, 'God, this sucks.' I'm not into that kind of stuff."Lee praised Mars, saying, "There is only one Mick and he's an incredible player. It saddens me, just on a personal level for him, that this spine disease slowly started changing his shape."Lee said Mars endured a lot of pain on tour, even more than a decade ago, and that the band witnessed his struggles. Mars eventually approached the band and said he could no longer tour because he did not feel he could continue."I always try to put myself in Mick's shoes and I got nothing but love for that guy - nothing but love," Lee said. "I just wish it didn't get so... and unfortunately that's just the way things go when people are threatened or hurt. They fight back. But it's all good."Lee described some difficulties performing with Mars, recalling a moment when he counted down the song "Live Wire" and Mars played "Wild Side" instead. Lee said John 5, who replaced Mars after his retirement in 2022, brought needed energy to the band.Motley Crue's next show is scheduled for July 31 in Holmdel, New Jersey. Tour dates and ticket information are available on the band's website.

Kelly Osbourne Reflects on Grief One Year After Ozzy Osbourne's Death

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Wed, 22 Jul 2026 14:16 GMT

Today marks one year since Ozzy Osbourne's death. On social media, his daughter Kelly Osbourne shared two messages reflecting on her father's passing and the impact it has had on her life.In her first post, Kelly, 41, described her experience with grief. Now living in the United Kingdom with her son Sidney, she said losing her father changed her in ways she never expected. She wrote about how grieving in public has made the process more challenging."I don't just mourn the father I lost. I mourn the soul I was before death taught my heart its own name," Kelly wrote. "People think grief is missing someone who is gone, but the deepest sorrow is waking each day longing for the version of yourself who died with them."She added that grief often divides a person's life into two parts: before and after the loss. "Some losses don't simply break you. They divide your life into two people. The one you were before, and the one left behind," she said.Kelly then posted an open letter to her father, addressing him as "my daddy." She wrote, "One year ago today, the world changed forever. I always thought life was hard, but life without you has been the hardest thing I have ever had to endure. You are my everything. My protector. My greatest teacher. My best friend. The apple of my eye. My reason."She recalled sharing simple moments with her father, such as watching television together and laughing at his jokes. "I would give absolutely anything to experience those little moments just one more time," Kelly wrote.Kelly said she sees her father reflected in her young son. "Oh, Daddy, you would adore the little man he is becoming. Every single day I catch glimpses of you in him. Your smile. Your spirit. Your mannerisms."She expressed gratitude for her relationship with her father and the memories they created together. She also acknowledged the support her family has received from people sharing stories about Ozzy's kindness and influence."This past year has broken me in ways I never knew were possible," Kelly wrote. "Everything you warned me would happen, happened. But I want you to know that I listened. I did everything you told me to do, and I will continue to follow your words for the rest of my life. Your voice still guides me every day."Kelly closed her letter by thanking her father for his love and for shaping who she is. "I miss you with every part of my soul. I love you beyond words, beyond time, beyond this life. Until we find each other again."Kelly's reflections offer a raw look at the pain of losing a parent and the way grief can reshape your life. Have you experienced a loss that changed how you see yourself? How do you carry forward the lessons and memories of those who are gone?

Brian Johnson Finds New Joy Performing with AC/DC

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 20 Jul 2026 14:24 GMT

AC/DC singer Brian Johnson says he is enjoying performing as an older musician more than he did in the past.Johnson's comments differ from those of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, who recently told reporters there was "nothing good about ageing." Johnson is 78, while Jagger is 82.In a recent interview with USA Today, Johnson said he finds live shows more enjoyable now. "I think it's still the unknown," Johnson said in a video interview. "You're all rehearsed; you know your parts. But the unpredictability keeps you on edge, to be your best."Guitarist Angus Young, 71, chimed in, "I just worry about if I'm going to trip over... That's about it." Johnson agreed, adding the band has learned to focus on their presence on stage. "You can't just immediately do things. You have to learn to watch each other. We're doing things now that we didn't think of before. Interacting."It's just more fun, because you don't care anymore. When you're young you take yourself very seriously. I never used to smile or anything because that's what you thought you were supposed to do."AC/DC launched the North American leg of their Power Up Tour on July 11, playing a 21-song set. The band has suggested on social media that this could be the final stretch of the tour that started in May 2024. The last scheduled show is Sept. 29 in Philadelphia.Neither Johnson nor Young commented on the band's future. When asked about AC/DC's legacy, Young said he hopes people say, "A great rock band." Johnson added, "They were great at what they did. And they did it consistently. You never thought back in the day-when I finish here I'm going to be 79!" Johnson also thanked the band's multi-generational fan base, saying, "I'd love to thank them all one by one."

Mick Jagger Dismisses "Control Freak" Label and Shares Insights on Leading the Rolling Stones

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Fri, 17 Jul 2026 14:16 GMT

Mick Jagger rejects the "control freak" label, despite being described that way before. The Rolling Stones frontman spoke about his role in the band during a recent appearance on the "Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend" podcast. Jagger and O'Brien talked about different moments from Jagger's career.O'Brien recalled watching Jagger backstage at an event and noticing how involved he was with every detail. "I looked back at Keith [Richards], and I said, 'Was this Mick in 1962?'" O'Brien said. "He said, 'Yes.'"O'Brien then asked Jagger about his reputation for organizing and managing the Rolling Stones. "Sometimes I was called a control freak," Jagger said. "But I'm not a control freak at all. I like to delegate. The thing about this kind of work is you delegate these big jobs."Jagger said he still checks and approves many details for Rolling Stones events, including venue choices and special guests. Before every show, he looks out at the crowd to get a sense of the audience."You've got to see the room full," Jagger said. "What kind of people are there? How many people are there? What does the room feel like? I think that's important. You do want to fill the room because it affects how you act and how the audience reacts. I think all that is really important."The Rolling Stones released their 25th studio album, "Foreign Tongues," earlier this year. The band does not have any live performances scheduled, but Jagger has suggested they may play some shows in 2027.

Soundgarden Aiming to Release Final Album with Chris Cornell's Vocals in 2027

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Thu, 16 Jul 2026 14:15 GMT

Soundgarden's final album, featuring vocals by the late Chris Cornell, will likely be released in 2027, according to guitarist Kim Thayil.Thayil told Ultimate Guitar that work on the project, which began several years ago, is ongoing. He said the band has found it challenging to finish the songs that Cornell left behind after his death in 2017. Thayil said the band feels a responsibility to get everything right."There are at least two songs that I wrote the music for," Thayil said. "One of them, I wrote the lyrics for. One of the collaborations would have been that I submitted music to Chris, and he wrote lyrics for them."He explained that Cornell often changed the structure of the songs to fit his lyrics. "He would move the verse and chorus lengths and sequences to accommodate his lyrics. But then, they themselves had to accommodate the dynamic of the instrumental. Sometimes, lengths will increase to accommodate guitar solos."Thayil said he could not confirm how many tracks will appear on the album since the project is still in progress. "We're looking at the material that we intend to complete, and we also look at material that perhaps we can complete," he said. "These are decisions that are going to have to be made between Matt [Cameron], Ben [Shepherd] and I, and the producer. Right about now, it's likely about eight or nine songs. More likely nine."He noted that the band is working around other commitments, which has slowed progress. "We have to book studio time here and there," Thayil said. "It's been a very busy year for us with the Hall of Fame induction, very busy year for me with the book, and until last year it was very busy for Matt with Pearl Jam recordings and Pearl Jam touring. We kind of have to work around a lot of that."Thayil did not rule out the possibility of touring to support the album, possibly with a guest vocalist or multiple singers. "That would be discussed roughly, generally-like, 'Well, what do we do? How do we promote it?'" he said.He emphasized the importance of the album for the band and for Cornell's legacy. "We know the significance of this material, with our legacy and with Chris's legacy. We want to make sure that it's as great as it can be, and because it'll be the last studio album."

Huey Lewis Reflects on Life After Hearing Loss and the End of His Music Career

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Tue, 14 Jul 2026 14:23 GMT

Huey Lewis says music is no longer part of his life, eight years after losing his hearing to Meniere's disease.Lewis, 73, lost the hearing in his right ear in the 1990s. In 2018, his left ear also failed, forcing him to end his music career. In a recent episode of the "Inside of You" podcast, Lewis spoke about how his life has changed and said he still hopes for medical or technological advances that could help him.He described his first hearing loss by recalling advice from a doctor. "My dad was a doctor and he sent me to this famous ENT guy," Lewis said. "He looked at it and said, 'Well, get used to it!' I said, 'What do you mean, get used to it? I'm a musician; I'm a singer. I need my hearing!' He says, 'You only need one ear. Jimi Hendrix had one ear, Brian Wilson had one ear. I have one ear and I'm in a barbershop quartet!'"Lewis said he worried about performing with hearing in only one ear, but his brain adjusted. "I was very apprehensive, and it was fine, because your brain moves everything to the middle," he said. "So I existed on one ear for 25 years. And then my left ear bailed, and now I'm deaf, basically, without the technology."Lewis now uses a cochlear implant in his left ear and a hearing aid in his right. Both connect to his phone and computer. He said these devices have changed his life, but not for the better when it comes to music. "Music is not part of my life anymore. It's a hard pill to swallow," Lewis said.He explained that speech and music sound distorted through the devices. "People sound like they took a hit of helium," he said. "Sometimes I play [an album] because I know it so well. I can hear the beat and I know what's going on, but I can't enjoy it. Music used to be fun. Now I try so hard to get it, and it just ends up frustrating for me. I can't feel the warmth."Lewis said he experienced depression after his diagnosis, especially during the first six months. He misses performing and seeing his bandmates, especially when he hears about their current work. "My bass player, John Pierce, is playing with Toto now, and they're just killing it out there. I wish I could do that," he said.Lewis has found some comfort in fishing, which he discovered after losing his hearing. He said spending time in nature has been a positive change. "If I had hearing, I'd still be on the road, probably, and I don't miss that. I miss doing a show once in a while, I miss the camaraderie, but I've fished so many great places and met all kinds of different people. So I've got to look at the positive," he said.Asked about future treatments, Lewis said there is little known about Meniere's disease, but he hopes for improvements. He mentioned a possible new cochlear implant that would be fully internal, allowing users to swim and sleep without removing anything. "Right now, I have to take all my stuff out to sleep at night. So I'm deaf at night. If there's a fire, I'm in trouble," he said.

Frank Ferrer Reflects on Departure From Guns N' Roses, Praises Axl Rose

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 13 Jul 2026 14:27 GMT

A little more than a year after his dismissal from Guns N' Roses, drummer Frank Ferrer spoke about his time with the band and his relationship with frontman Axl Rose.Ferrer joined Guns N' Roses in 2006 as a temporary replacement for Brian "Brain" Mantia, who was on leave to care for his newborn child. When Mantia decided not to return, Ferrer accepted the full-time position. He remained with the band for nearly 20 years, including during the notable returns of Duff McKagan and Slash.Ferrer's tenure ended in 2025. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, he said he always knew his time with the band would not last forever."Everything comes to an end," Ferrer said. "I knew this thing wasn't gonna be forever. I was just so happy I got to do it when I got to do it."Ferrer said his departure was amicable and there was "nothing dramatic" about his exit. "We didn't get into a fight or anything like that," he said.During the interview, Ferrer addressed public perceptions of Axl Rose, calling him "super nice and friendly." Ferrer said many people see Rose as intimidating, but he described Rose as caring and generous."He doesn't suffer fools, so that might upset people," Ferrer said. "But he's generous, super funny, and always worried about us. He's a good man."Ferrer also spoke about Rose's work ethic and stage presence."He's out there trying to make everything sound great every night. He's under a lot of pressure, and he delivers," Ferrer said. "He leads the way. Even if you're not feeling your best, when he comes out and starts singing, you have to match his energy. Everybody would push. He loves being up there and giving a good show."Asked if he had a final conversation with Rose before leaving the band, Ferrer said it was not needed."I'm sure we'll get together again. Things change. Nothing stays the same, that's all," he said.Ferrer thanked Guns N' Roses fans for their support over the years."I'm grateful for the love the fan base has given me, how they accepted me and made me feel like I was part of the legacy," Ferrer said. "A big thank you to the people that supported the band and viewed me as a band member. I think that's kinda cool."

Mick Jagger on Avoiding Politics at Concerts and Evolving Songwriting with the Rolling Stones

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 13 Jul 2026 14:26 GMT

NEW YORK - Mick Jagger says his role as a performer is not to lecture audiences about politics, even as some artists, such as Bruce Springsteen and Tom Morello, have made political discussion a regular part of their concerts.During a recent appearance on The New York Times podcast "The Interview," Jagger discussed his approach to live shows, his relationship with the audience, and his thoughts on mixing politics with music. The episode was posted July 11 on YouTube. When asked by host David Marchese what his relationship with his audience means to him, Jagger said the answer depends on the type of event and the crowd's expectations."For example, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival-we played that for the first time in 2024," Jagger said. "That's a festival, so people didn't necessarily come to see you; they bought tickets before they knew you were coming. At events like British Summer Time Hyde Park in London or Glastonbury, fans buy tickets for the festival, not just for you. They're not always your biggest fans, so you have to treat each audience differently."Jagger said this variety in audience makeup shapes his approach to performing. He avoids getting political during concerts, focusing instead on giving fans an escape from their daily lives."My job in the live music world is to make sure attendees have the best time they possibly can and to help them forget all their problems and the problems of the world," he said. "It's similar to going to a sports event. Everything else is shut out. You're just watching to see who's going to win. You don't want to lecture them."Jagger noted he is not against mentioning politics in songwriting. He said his process has changed over the years, and he sometimes weaves political lines into songs about personal relationships."I wouldn't have written any of the songs on 'Foreign Tongues' when I was 30," Jagger said. "I've gotten into the habit of doing songs about personal relationships and then throwing in a verse about politics. I learned that from other songwriters, because nobody wants to hear a whole song about politics or social commentary. A blues song like 'Rough and Twisted' is mostly stream-of-consciousness. You talk about women and life, then you throw in something political, like 'The only club was called Conspiracy / All they wanted was tyranny.' You find yourself using these tricks."The Rolling Stones released "Foreign Tongues," their latest studio album and the follow-up to 2023's "Hackney Diamonds," this past Friday on Polydor/Capitol. The album has received positive reviews from outlets including Ultimate Classic Rock and Rolling Stone.Jagger, 80, also spoke candidly about aging during the podcast."There's nothing good about it," he said. "I forgot all my wisdom. I might have had a couple of pearls drop, but I've already forgotten what they are. You can't do things as quickly as you want to. Physically, you've got to be more careful."On July 8, Jagger and Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood played the previously unreleased track "Ringing Hollow" during the band's "Foreign Tongues" listening party at the St. Clement Hotel in London. In an interview with MOJO magazine, Jagger described "Ringing Hollow" as a reflection on the idea of America and the concept of the American Dream."The American Dream is intact for some people, and I'm sure we can find wonderful immigrant stories, but we also read about the decline of the American Empire," Jagger said. "There are a lot of questions about imperial overreach and the lobbying system. The money spent on an election is absurd-it's not corruption per se, but unnecessary. Is it indicative of this administration or something that has been happening a long time? In any case, it's not the same place as it was."Jagger also told NME he has already started writing songs for possible future projects, and there could be as many as three records to follow "Foreign Tongues." He said some of the new songs could end up being recorded by other artists.- Compiled from The New York Times, Ultimate Classic Rock, MOJO, Louder, and NME

Ian Gillan Reflects on the Real Reasons Behind His 1973 Deep Purple Exit

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Thu, 9 Jul 2026 19:14 GMT

Ian Gillan has shared new details about his first departure from Deep Purple in 1973.Speaking on the Rockonteurs podcast, Gillan said that the reasons behind his exit were more complex than the often-cited heavy workload and personality clashes. He described how the band dynamic changed as Deep Purple's success grew."You start off with five guys in a van with your gear in the back," Gillan said. "Then you expand a bit, you get a truck, a couple of roadies, and things keep growing. But you're still a unit. I was Ritchie [Blackmore's] roommate for a long time. We'd go on holiday together. We were very much five guys."He said the group started to drift apart as outside relationships and influences increased."At a certain stage, your party's expanded by personal relationships," Gillan said. "The outside influences don't mesh as well as the band does. One of the guys isn't staying in the same hotel, some people don't want to speak. That's the beginning of problems."Gillan admitted he played a major role in the split, saying, "I was as much to blame as anyone, probably more." He also pointed to musical differences between himself and Blackmore."One of the key factors was a shift in the band's mentality," Gillan said. "Ritchie was moving toward what became Rainbow in terms of song construction. I felt the excitement and craziness were fading a bit."Gillan rejoined Deep Purple in 1984 for the Mark II lineup reunion after more than a decade away. He said the band members had changed after time apart and starting families. When they met in Vermont to rehearse, their musical chemistry quickly returned."We did it secretly, because if it wasn't going to work, we didn't want to make a big deal out of it," Gillan said. "We sat in a basement, started a little jam, and I could see the smiles on faces. It was just like being back in Hanwell in 1969."

LONDON (AP) - Rolling Stones members Mick Jagger and Ron Wood performed a previously unreleased song this week at a private fan event in London. The track, "Ringing Hollow," appears on the band's 25th album, "Foreign Tongues," set for release Friday. While organizers did not confirm the location, fans widely believe the performance took place Monday at the St. Clement Hotel in London. The event included a drone show above the city, featuring an updated version of the band's tongue and lips logo. The Stones have already released two singles from "Foreign Tongues": "Jealous Lover" and "In the Stars." The new album follows 2023's "Hackney Diamonds."Jagger and Keith Richards said "Ringing Hollow" reflects on their changing relationship with America. Lyrics from the song include, "I was madly in love with you before we ever met," and "I saw all your movies, I smoked your cigarettes," as well as, "Lady Liberty don't look so good... there's a tear in her gown."Speaking to Mojo magazine, Jagger said, "The American dream is intact for some people, and I'm sure we can find some wonderful immigrant stories that happened in the last 12 months, but we read about the decline of the American empire." He said the song is not only about Donald Trump, but also about "imperial overreach and the lobbying system."Richards told the Sunday Times he finds America "a bit of a disappointment at the moment," saying, "All you hear is the moaning about the price of gas. This is where it hurts people."

Def Leppard's Joe Elliott Says Upcoming Album Will Surprise Fans

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Wed, 8 Jul 2026 14:18 GMT

Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott says fans can expect surprises from the band's upcoming 13th studio album, set for release in early 2027.The new album will follow 2022's "Diamond Star Halos." The band released the lead single, "Rejoice," in February, months ahead of the full album. Elliott spoke about the gap between the single and the album in an interview with French radio station Oui FM."We released it in time for the Vegas residency," Elliott said. "We did a Vegas residency in February, and we wanted to play a new song, so it made sense to actually put it out."Elliott said the album is still in progress. "The album won't be out until early '27, 'cause we're still recording it," he said. "We were actually recording parts of it in Vegas on days off. We would go down into the basement of the casino and set it up as a studio. So we're still actively recording now and mixing."Elliott said the band has about 18 songs, but not all will make the final cut. "We've kind of got nearly two albums," he said. "We're gonna pick and choose which 10 or 11 we think are the right ones. We've got some great songs-very varied."He described the new material as diverse. "We've written the fastest song we've ever done," Elliott said. "And we've also written the most over-the-top, massive, kind of bombastic song that we've ever written, too, and lots of stuff in between."He added, "A lot of people will be shocked, I think, because of the direction we're going in. It's not one direction; it's 10 different directions. And we love being able to do that."Elliott said the band plans to finish the album on schedule, despite touring commitments this summer. "We'll be working on the album up to going on tour and then when we come off. We need to get it finished by the end of the summer for an early release next year," he said.

Kirk Hammett Reflects on Buying Neal Schon's Guitar and Metallica's Donation to Venezuela

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 6 Jul 2026 19:08 GMT

Kirk Hammett once felt guilty about buying a guitar from Neal Schon and offered to return it.The Metallica guitarist paid $87,500 for a 1957 Gibson Les Paul Standard at an auction in 2021. He later said he believed the price was too low.Hammett shared the story at a recent fan event in Ireland, showing a photo of the rare black guitar. "This guitar used to belong to one of my all-time star heroes, a huge source of inspiration, Neal Schon," Hammett said. "I got this in an auction, and I don't know what was up, but I got this for, like, half the price that it was worth."He added, "I felt kind of bad about it because I should have paid a fair price. I paid a price that was lower than it should have been."The auction took place when the post-pandemic market was unstable, and several items sold for less than expected. Experts had predicted the guitar might fetch more than $150,000.Hammett said he called Schon to offer the guitar back. "I said, 'Neal, do you want the guitar back?' And he said, 'No, man, you keep it. You buy it, you keep it.'"Hammett said the gesture increased his respect for Schon. "Neal Schon, he's such a cool guy," Hammett said. "He's an amazing guitar player. He lives and breathes music."Hammett described Schon as a personal inspiration. "I see him, and I see how he conducts his life and how he plays, and his commitment and dedication to music. I was just like, 'Yeah! That's what I want to do too.' So I'm doing it!"Separately, Metallica has donated $100,000 to emergency operations in Venezuela after earthquakes killed more than 2,000 people and injured over 70,000. The band's All Within My Hands foundation made the donation to Direct Relief, a humanitarian aid group working in the region. The grant will help support Direct Relief's ongoing response to requests in Venezuela.

Metallica Covers Banned Song at Cardiff Show, Donates to Local Food Bank

Metallica performed Sunday, June 28, at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, where bassist Robert Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett paid tribute to Welsh singer Tom Jones during their nightly "doodle" segment. The band covered Jones' 1968 hit "Delilah," a song banned from choir performances at the stadium during rugby matches since 2023 due to concerns over its violent lyrics. The Welsh Rugby Union banned "Delilah" after reviewing the lyrics, which describe a man killing his wife after seeing her with another man. The union stated it condemns domestic violence and said the song's subject matter is upsetting to some supporters. Despite the ban, Tom Jones told fans at a Cardiff Castle concert in July 2023 to keep singing the song, saying, "They may stop the choir from singing it, but they haven't stopped the crowd. Keep on singing it - and I'll keep on singing it too."During Metallica's first show in Wales in 30 years, Trujillo sang lead vocals on "Delilah" as the crowd joined in on the chorus. Metallica's "doodle" segment has previously featured covers of local artists, including Rammstein in Berlin, ABBA in Sweden, A-ha in Norway, the Pogues in Dublin and the Proclaimers in Glasgow. After the Cardiff show, Metallica donated more than $26,000 to Cardiff Foodbank through their All Within My Hands foundation. The food bank said on Instagram that the donation will help replenish its warehouse and support about 1,000 people with the equivalent of 9,000 meals.Metallica will play two shows at London Stadium on July 3 and July 5 before taking a summer break. The band's 24-date Life Burns Faster Sphere residency in Las Vegas begins Oct. 1.

Nikki Sixx Fires Back at Godsmack Drummer Amid Ongoing Feud Over M tley Cr e Live Performances

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Tue, 30 Jun 2026 14:16 GMT

Nikki Sixx responded Friday to comments made by Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin about M tley Cr e's live performances, calling Larkin a "hater" in a post on X.Larkin, who played drums for Godsmack from 2002 to 2024, discussed recent criticism of Mike Mangini-Godsmack's new drummer-on his YouTube channel. During the video, Larkin alleged that M tley Cr e uses a click track during live shows. He also claimed that Sixx sometimes appears to be singing when his voice is heard on a backing track.Sixx addressed Larkin's claims on X, writing, "Who's this Shannon Larkin hater? It's funny how so many B- and C-level bands seem to spend more time talking about us than writing songs people actually remember. Maybe it's jealousy, maybe it's insecurity, maybe ticket sales are a little slow. Either way, borrowing someone else's spotlight has never been much of a long-term career strategy."Sixx continued, "I genuinely feel for musicians who never figured out that the best publicity is writing great songs-over and over again, decade after decade for fans not critics. It reminds me of the endless podcast crowd that builds an audience by talking about everyone else instead of creating something worth talking about. Anyway, maybe he needs to take a nap before he does more press."Larkin's original comments came as he discussed Wade Murff, who briefly played drums for Godsmack before Mangini joined. Larkin said Godsmack does not use click tracks or backing tracks during live shows, unlike some bands. He added, "You see Nikki Sixx up there. He's not really singing, he looks away, but you still hear his voice. Well, it's a track playing. But in order for those things to happen, the band has to be on a click track - and the band doesn't have to. It's just us, the drummer. We're on a click so it's always the same every night."Earlier this year, M tley Cr e won a legal dispute with former guitarist Mick Mars. Mars had accused the band of playing to backing tracks, but later retracted those statements in court.Tension between M tley Cr e and Godsmack dates back to 2009, when Godsmack opened for M tley Cr e on the Cr e Fest 2 tour. Larkin said in a 2011 interview that issues with M tley Cr e's security led to bad blood, claiming Godsmack's guests were mistreated backstage. "Motley Crue's security were real weird with our guests getting backstage, like our guests might want to look at Motley Crue. Our guests were there to see us and they didn't care about Motley Crue," Larkin said at the time.Godsmack later released the 2010 song "Cryin' Like a Bitch," which frontman Sully Erna confirmed was inspired by their experience on the tour. Erna said in a video, "There's definitely been some rock star garbage on this tour that we just have never seen in our career. This was the first time that I felt like, 'If there's gonna be some people that are gonna treat other people a certain way, then I'm gonna go out there every night and make sure that we make you look old and fat and go home with a nice big fat paycheck.'"The two bands have continued to trade remarks in interviews and on social media in the years since.

Steve Miller Returns to New York Stage for Rare Jazz at Lincoln Center Concerts in 2026

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 29 Jun 2026 14:43 GMT

Steve Miller, frontman of the Steve Miller Band, has announced two concerts in New York City after stepping back from touring last year.Miller will perform Oct. 9 and 10 at Frederick P. Rose Hall as part of the Jazz at Lincoln Center series. Both concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. and include a pre-concert lecture. The performances mark the 10th year of Miller's tribute to his blues and jazz influences.Tickets are available at jazz.org, starting at $42.These are Miller's only scheduled shows for 2026. The event listing mentions "special guests," but does not confirm if other Steve Miller Band members will join him.Miller, 82, canceled all 2025 tour dates last year. Some fans speculated low ticket sales were the reason. Miller cited climate concerns."The combination of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes and massive forest fires make these risks for you, our audience, the band and the crew unacceptable," the band said in a statement last July. "So ... you can blame it on the weather ... The tour is cancelled."Longtime band member Kenny Lee Lewis defended Miller's decision. On Facebook, Lewis wrote that Miller struggled with heat exhaustion at outdoor shows."You didn't see Steve Miller hanging over a railing after our first outdoor stadium show opening in the sun for Journey and Def Leppard in Atlanta trying to fend off heat exhaustion," Lewis wrote. "I was really worried about him. Next couple outdoor shows the crew had to arrange the stage air coolers with flexible ducts on him as he also wore frozen gel packs on his neck and shoulders. He looked like the Michelin Man! And he still almost passed out."Lewis, who has played bass, guitar and sung with the band since 1982, said ticket sales usually picked up late. He added, "Even if sales were down, Steve has been concerned about this heat for years. It's too frickin hot for an 81-year-old to go out on that stage as temperatures keep breaking records even if you are the closer as the sun sets."

Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce are rumored to be planning a wedding at Madison Square Garden over the Fourth of July weekend, according to Rolling Stone.Sources told the magazine that Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks is expected to attend the ceremony. Another source said Nicks may perform at the event.Swift has not publicly confirmed the date or location of her wedding. The New York Times reported earlier this week that Swift had rented Madison Square Garden, suggesting a multiple-day event. An entertainment industry executive and another person familiar with the plans told the Times there will be an intimate gathering of about 100 people at the venue on Thursday, July 2. A larger celebration with approximately 1,000 guests is planned for the following day, with possible stage performances.Swift and Nicks have a long friendship and have worked together before. They performed Swift's "You Belong With Me" and Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon" at the 2010 Grammy Awards. Swift referenced Nicks in her 2024 song "Clara Bow" and dedicated the song's live debut to her."She's paved the way for us, and she's mentored so many artists that you don't even know she's doing it," Swift said of Nicks. "She's just become friends with so many female artists, just to be a guiding hand. I can't tell you how rare that is. She's a hero of mine and also someone that I can tell her any secret - she'd never tell anybody."Nicks has praised Swift's 2022 song "You're on Your Own, Kid," saying it helped her cope with the loss of her Fleetwood Mac bandmate Christine McVie."Thank you to Taylor Swift for doing this thing for me, and that is writing a song called 'You're on Your Own, Kid,'" Nicks said during a 2023 concert. She added that the song helped her navigate life after McVie's death.Earlier this month, Swift wore an orange and blue "Stevie Knicks" T-shirt while sitting courtside at Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden.

Many rock bands can fill arenas, but only a few acts earn the label "arena rock."Arena rock emerged in the 1970s and became a defining sound in the 1980s. The style features big, anthemic songs, soaring choruses and powerful guitar riffs. Bands tailored their music for large crowds, often encouraging audience sing-alongs.Arena rock is known for its loud, bold approach. The music is designed to energize crowds and fill massive venues, not small clubs or intimate settings. Some bands stand out as the face of arena rock.Queen Queen helped set the standard for arena rock. The band's early years blended hard rock and progressive rock, but their signature sound developed in the mid-1970s. Freddie Mercury's operatic vocals, layered harmonies and Brian May's guitar work became trademarks."Bohemian Rhapsody," "Killer Queen" and "Somebody to Love" are built for large audiences. In 1977, Queen released "We Will Rock You," a song May wrote for audience participation. Fans around the world still stomp and clap to its beat nearly 50 years later.Journey Journey is closely linked to the arena rock sound, though the group started out playing progressive rock and jazz fusion. Their direction shifted when Steve Perry joined as singer in 1977, followed by keyboardist Jonathan Cain in 1980.Hits like "Lights," "Wheel in the Sky," "Any Way You Want It," "Don't Stop Believin'," "Open Arms," "Separate Ways (World Apart)" and "Faithfully" showcase the band's arena rock style. Journey's songs remain staples at sporting events, and their appeal spans generations.Bon Jovi Bon Jovi arrived on the scene with many arena rock elements in place, though their first two albums saw limited success. That changed with 1986's "Slippery When Wet," which featured hits such as "You Give Love a Bad Name," "Livin' on a Prayer" and "Wanted Dead or Alive."Bon Jovi's music, marked by catchy hooks and sing-along choruses, was created for mass appeal. Guitarist Richie Sambora said in the 2009 documentary "Bon Jovi: When We Were Beautiful" that some songs were written specifically with arenas and stadiums in mind.Van Halen Van Halen started out in small Los Angeles clubs but quickly outgrew those spaces. Eddie Van Halen's guitar playing and David Lee Roth's showmanship drove their rise.Songs like "Jump," "Runnin' With the Devil," "Hot for Teacher" and "Panama" blend rock intensity with pop hooks. Van Halen's energetic performances and Eddie's guitar skills made them a mainstay in large venues.Eddie Van Halen described the instrument as a personal extension of the player, saying, "You have to be emotionally and spiritually connected to your instrument."Arena rock's big sound and crowd interaction continue to define live rock music. Do you find yourself singing along to these classics at concerts or events? What bands do you think best represent arena rock today?

The Big Four Rock Bands That Defined the 1970s Music Scene

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Wed, 17 Jun 2026 14:18 GMT

Who were the 'Big Four' of 1970s rock bands?Debate continues among fans, but four bands dominated the rock scene in the 1970s by album sales, hit singles, artistic achievements and cultural impact.EaglesBy 1976, the Eagles had become one of the decade's top acts. Their blend of country-rock and mainstream rock led to several hit albums and singles, including the chart-topping "One of These Nights." The release of "Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975)" sold 40 million copies in the U.S., making it the first album to achieve quadruple diamond certification by the Recording Industry Association of America. It remains the highest-selling album in U.S. history. The band followed with "Hotel California," which produced hits like "Life in the Fast Lane" and the title track. Don Henley and Glenn Frey led the group, joined by guitarists Don Felder and Joe Walsh. After a demanding tour, the Eagles released "The Long Run" in 1979, which sold 7 million copies and included the Grammy-winning "Heartache Tonight." The group disbanded soon after but reunited in 1994 and remain a top concert draw.Led ZeppelinLed Zeppelin defined 1970s rock with their heavy, guitar-driven sound. They incorporated blues, folk, psychedelia, country and funk into their music, influencing many bands that followed. Early critics dismissed "Led Zeppelin III," but the band quickly silenced doubters with their untitled fourth album, known as "Led Zeppelin IV." Songs like "Black Dog," "Rock and Roll" and "Stairway to Heaven" became staples of rock radio. "Led Zeppelin IV" sold more than 24 million copies in the U.S.The band continued with "Houses of the Holy" and "Physical Graffiti," both of which sold well and expanded their musical style. Led Zeppelin became a major live act, and albums like "Presence" and "In Through the Out Door" further extended their influence. The death of drummer John Bonham in 1980 ended the band's run. Led Zeppelin has reunited only occasionally for special performances.Pink FloydPink Floyd achieved both commercial and critical success in the 1970s. Their 1973 album "The Dark Side of the Moon" sold more than 15 million copies in the U.S. and about 45 million worldwide. It holds the record as the longest-charting album on the Billboard 200. The album explored themes of mental health and the pressures of band life, blending art-rock with radio-friendly singles. The group continued with "Wish You Were Here" and "Animals," both of which sold millions. Their 1979 double album "The Wall" included hits such as "Comfortably Numb," "Hey You" and "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2." By the end of the century, "The Wall" was certified 23-times platinum by the RIAA, making it the best-selling double album ever. Pink Floyd released one more album in 1983 before Roger Waters left the group. The Rolling StonesThe Rolling Stones entered the 1970s after two acclaimed albums, "Beggars Banquet" and "Let It Bleed." The band continued with "Sticky Fingers," featuring the No. 1 hit "Brown Sugar." The album mixed blues jams and ballads, setting up their double album "Exile on Main St.," which drew from country, gospel and blues influences.Following "Exile," the Stones released "Goats Head Soup," "It's Only Rock 'n Roll" and "Black and Blue." These albums faced criticism, but the band maintained strong sales and successful tours. In 1978, "Some Girls" marked a comeback, updating their sound to fit the punk and disco era. The single "Miss You" reached No. 1 and remains one of their biggest hits.Which of these bands left the biggest mark on your music taste? Do their 1970s records still resonate with you today?

The Four Guitar Solos That Changed Rock Music Forever

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 15 Jun 2026 14:17 GMT

Choosing the top four guitar solos is a challenging task. Every rock fan has favorites, and most classic rock songs feature a memorable solo. There are thousands of contenders, even among the most influential tracks. You could make dozens of lists and still find valid choices. What separates a great guitar solo from the rest? Technique matters, but so does personality. The best solos reflect the player's style and match the song's mood. A standout solo can lift a song above its melody and hooks, becoming just as recognizable and easy to hum. Many fans can play these solos in their heads, note for note.To narrow the choices, we set a few ground rules: We did not include instrumentals, which are a separate category. We focused on studio versions, not live recordings, so extended renditions like "Free Bird" are out. Length was not the main factor. The content of the solo mattered more than its duration.Even with those guidelines, the pool of solos remains large. After much debate, here are four guitar solos that have shaped rock music."Johnny B. Goode," Chuck Berry (1958)Chuck Berry's solo on "Johnny B. Goode" set a new standard for rock guitar. Berry played a Gibson ES-350T at Chess Records in Chicago, working with producers Phil and Leonard Chess. The song's opening riff, inspired by Louis Jordan's 1946 track "Ain't That Just Like a Woman," stands out for its energy and clarity.Berry built on a piano pattern by Johnnie Johnson, with Lafayette Leake playing on the recording. The riff recurs between vocal lines and anchors the 30-second solo. Berry had shown his skill before on songs like "Maybellene" and "Roll Over Beethoven," but "Johnny B. Goode" became the reference point for future guitarists. Keith Richards has called it a defining moment."Voodoo Child (Slight Return)," Jimi Hendrix Experience (1968)Jimi Hendrix's solo on "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" is one of his most analyzed performances. Recorded during the sessions for "Electric Ladyland," the track starts with Hendrix using a wah-wah pedal on his Fender Stratocaster. The song evolved from a jam with Steve Winwood and Jack Casady, and was filmed for a documentary.Bassist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell kept up with Hendrix's improvisation. The first solo lasts nearly a minute, and the closing solo stretches to 93 seconds. Hendrix's style, full of feedback and unpredictable phrasing, pushed the limits of rock guitar. After Hendrix's death, the song became his only UK No. 1 single. Artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Kenny Wayne Shepherd have since made the solo part of their own performances."While My Guitar Gently Weeps," the Beatles with Eric Clapton (1968)George Harrison, feeling overlooked as a songwriter during the Beatles' "White Album" sessions, invited Eric Clapton to play the solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Clapton used a 1957 Gibson Les Paul, which he had recently given to Harrison.Clapton's solo features careful phrasing and emotion, echoing Harrison's melody. The mid-song solo lasts 35 seconds, with another minute-long solo at the end. Clapton's work on this track is considered one of his best. Harrison later said the other Beatles played better out of respect for Clapton's presence. The solo gained new attention when Clapton performed it at the Concert for George in 2002, and when Prince played it at Harrison's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2004."Stairway to Heaven," Led Zeppelin (1971)Jimmy Page's solo on "Stairway to Heaven" is instantly recognizable. The song closes the first side of Led Zeppelin's fourth album and features a transition from acoustic guitar to a powerful solo played on a 1959 Fender Telecaster. Page recorded several takes before choosing the final version. The solo lasts 59 seconds and builds intensity, leading into Robert Plant's final verse. Page's performance required a double-neck guitar in live shows. While some may consider it overplayed, it remains a benchmark for rock guitarists. What solos would you add to your own "Big Four"? Do these choices match your personal list, or do you have other contenders? Let us know which guitar solos you think have left the biggest mark on rock history.

Rush Drummer Anika Nilles Details Unique Preparation for Reunion Tour

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Thu, 11 Jun 2026 14:59 GMT

Anika Nilles, the new drummer for Rush, described how she changed her usual practice routine to prepare for the band's Fifty Something reunion tour. Nilles said learning Rush's complex catalog required her to rethink how she approaches preparation. When asked how she managed to learn so many Rush songs, Nilles said, "I have no idea.""Sometimes I was sitting there and thought, 'I have no idea how I'm learning that,' but somehow it's working because I learned those songs in a completely different way," Nilles said. "My preparation was so different to how I prepare myself usually."Nilles explained that her usual process involves listening to songs, writing a quick chart, and playing along. For Rush, that approach did not work."Usually I just listen, then I make a quick chart for myself to have it visually in front of my eyes and then I just listen, read and play. And I figured with this, it doesn't work right. So sometimes you cannot really write it out because a lot of it is also kind of a feeling," she said. She added, "Technically you can write it out, but I would have spent so much time with just that. And I thought, I don't have that time. I just have to listen, make chunks for myself and just learn it step by step and then this is how I did it. But just memorizing all the parts is one thing and then learning the feeling is a different thing."Nilles stepped into the spot held by the late Neil Peart, joining longtime members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson. She connected with the band through Lee's bass technician, John "Scully" McIntosh."I was diving directly into the Rush rabbit hole and just listened to everything I could catch - the music, videos, interviews, live shows, everything you can find online, basically, just to get to know the songs a bit better," Nilles said. "I just knew a bunch and also not in detail. So I started my whole research, but we also prepared, I think, six or seven songs for the first rehearsal. And as I got those titles, I was just focusing on those songs because they have a huge catalog."She said Rush's long break from touring helped everyone adjust as they began rehearsals."We all kind of started a little bit together from scratch," Nilles said. "I mean, they didn't really start from scratch, but as a trio, we had to find a way to come together. And it's one thing when you come into a band and everyone knows everything and it's just like playing, it's smooth because they're doing it every day onstage and you're the newbie who has to adjust and learn all this. It didn't feel like that. So it was also taking the pressure a little bit away because they're kind of like, 'Okay, how does this go?' Cause they hadn't played it in 10 years. Definitely took the pressure a little bit off my shoulders."Rush's first two comeback shows have received strong reviews, with critics praising Nilles' drumming. The Fifty Something reunion tour continues Thursday in Los Angeles, with dates scheduled through April 2027.

Rush Returns to the Stage With Emotional "Fifty Something" Reunion Tour Launch in Los Angeles

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 8 Jun 2026 14:18 GMT

LOS ANGELES - Rush returned to the stage for the first time in nearly a decade, opening their Fifty Something reunion tour at the Forum in Los Angeles on Thursday night."We're here for so many reasons," frontman Geddy Lee told the crowd early in the set. "We're here to celebrate over 50 years of music that Alex Lifeson, myself and the great Neil Peart made together. We're here to pay tribute to Neil."This marked Rush's first concert since Aug. 1, 2015, which was also held at the Forum and closed their R40 Live tour. While that tour was not billed as a farewell, the band later indicated they were finished. The death of drummer Neil Peart in 2020 appeared to end any possibility of a reunion.Lee and Lifeson surprised fans last October by announcing the Fifty Something tour, with drummer Anika Nilles joining to fill Peart's role. The show began with a short film featuring several celebrity cameos before the band launched into "Xanadu," a track from 1977's "A Farewell to Kings." According to setlist.fm, this was the first time Rush had ever opened a concert with that song. The band followed with songs including "Limelight," from the 1981 album "Moving Pictures," and "Freewill," from 1980's "Permanent Waves." Both tracks drew energetic responses from the audience.Emotions ran high throughout the night as Rush honored Peart's memory. During the set, archival footage of Peart, including audio of him discussing his passion for drumming, played on giant screens. The tribute led into a performance of "Bravado," accompanied by images of the late drummer.Rush closed their first set with "The Spirit of Radio," drawing some of the loudest cheers of the evening. After a 30-minute intermission, the band returned with a trio of songs from their 1976 album "2112": "Overture," "The Temples of Syrinx" and "A Passage to Bangkok."The second set included a special guest appearance by singer Aimee Mann, who joined Rush for "Time Stand Still." The single was a radio hit in 1987, but this marked the first time Mann performed it live with the band.Throughout the show, Lee and Lifeson demonstrated the musical skill that has defined Rush for more than 50 years. Nilles received a warm welcome from fans, impressing many with her performance behind the drums.A comedic video short featuring "South Park" characters arguing over Rush lyrics introduced the band's signature song "Tom Sawyer." Rush briefly left the stage before returning for "By-Tor & the Snow Dog," which they had not played in more than 20 years, and "Working Man" closed the concert.Rush's Fifty Something tour continues across North America through December. The band has announced plans for additional international dates in 2027.

Peter Frampton Marks 50 Years With New Album and Candid Documentary at Tribeca Festival

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Thu, 4 Jun 2026 14:21 GMT

On May 15, Frampton released "Carry The Light," his 19th solo studio album and his first set of all-new songs in 16 years. This week, he will premiere a new documentary, "Frampton," directed by longtime band member Rob Arthur. The film receives a special screening Thursday, June 4, at the Tribeca Festival in New York. These new works arrive soon after Frampton marked the 50th anniversary of "Frampton Comes Alive!" The 1976 live album topped the Billboard 200 for 10 weeks and produced two top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100."It all comes to roost at the same time," Frampton, 76, said in a recent interview via Zoom from his Nashville home studio, Bigsby Park. He wore a denim shirt over a Tom Petty T-shirt during the call.Frampton said the 50th anniversary was both exciting and daunting. The release of "Carry The Light" and the documentary happened to align, though it was not planned. "We were going to release the album a month earlier, but then Tribeca contacted us," he said. "So we put it back so the album would come out, and two weeks later it's Tribeca, and then we could talk about both."Arthur, the film's director and Frampton's keyboard player, started the project after Frampton revealed his diagnosis of Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM), a degenerative muscle disease. The condition has affected Frampton's mobility and playing style, but audiences have seen little change during his recent performances.Arthur said he wanted to document Frampton's farewell tour in 2019. "Peter said, 'Why don't you just film all the concerts?'" Arthur said. "I'm the keyboard player, so it was a challenge." He set up three cameras to capture performances and backstage moments, and he began interviewing Frampton.Arthur found the story went beyond concert footage. The COVID-19 pandemic slowed the process but gave Arthur time to organize material and start a production company, Phenix Features, with Frampton. Their friendship allowed for candid conversations, Arthur said. "The basis of the movie is my take on him as a friend, and of course I know his legacy very well."Frampton said he trusted Arthur to lead the documentary while he focused on making music with his son, Julian, who co-produced the album. "I had a lot to do with it. I know everything that's in there. But we were working on two projects at once," Frampton said. "I mainly concentrated on the album and wasn't involved day to day with the film."The documentary covers Frampton's childhood in Kent, England, and his early bands. Arthur filmed Frampton playing Buddy Holly's "Peggy Sue" on the steps of Bromley Technical High School, where Frampton's father was head of the art department. The film also features appearances by Bill Wyman, Roger Daltrey, Ringo Starr, Herb Alpert, Alice Cooper, Sheryl Crow, Nancy Wilson, Tom Morello, and others. Frampton's first wife, Mary Lindes, and his three children are also interviewed.Frampton provided hours of Super 8 footage from the 1970s, including scenes from his hospital recovery after a near-fatal car crash in 1978. The film addresses the low points in his career, such as substance abuse and the decline in popularity after "Frampton Comes Alive!" Frampton said he wanted to show the full story, including failures. "I wanted people to see it's not all glamour," he said. "It was me baring my soul, just like I did in the book."Arthur said Frampton was transparent throughout the process. "He said, 'Put it all in there,'" Arthur said. "It's painful to watch at times, but I love it," Frampton told him after viewing the finished film.Julian Frampton said the documentary reveals much that even he did not know about his father's professional and personal life. "It's a phenomenal story. I never saw a lot of that footage before."Arthur and Frampton are seeking a streaming home for the documentary after Tribeca. "We'll have to see where it leads us," Arthur said. While Arthur worked on the film, Frampton and his son completed "Carry The Light" in Nashville. The 10-track album includes appearances by Glenn Worf, Chad Cromwell, Tom Morello, Sheryl Crow, H.E.R., and Bill Evans. Graham Nash is featured on "I'm Sorry Elle," inspired by Frampton's wait to meet his granddaughter during the COVID-19 pandemic. Benmont Tench of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers plays on "Buried Treasure."Frampton said his IBM diagnosis gave him a sense of urgency to record new music. He also released two covers albums in recent years but wanted to focus on original compositions. The album's title track features a Shawnee stomp dance, and the idea of elders passing on wisdom influenced its theme.Frampton is already writing songs for another album, though his condition makes touring difficult. "It's getting more and more difficult to play," he said, but he remains determined to continue.Do you think Frampton's new work will connect with a new generation of listeners? How does an artist's openness about personal struggles affect your view of their music?

Triumph Reunion Tour Delights Fans With Fresh Energy and Overwhelming Response

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Tue, 2 Jun 2026 14:14 GMT

Triumph's reunion tour has been underway for nearly two months, and frontman Rik Emmett said he is pleased with the response from fans.Speaking on the "Tuning In With Thom Jennings" podcast, Emmett described the reaction as "overwhelming," adding that each show feels like a celebration."In some cases, it's a little overwhelming, and in other cases, it's just a beautiful celebration of joyful noise with these new guys," Emmett said. "The harmonies and the songs and the hard work that we all put in, and now we get this payoff of having these audiences. Every night it gets better. That's the thing, too. It just keeps resonating and growing."Emmett said the band worked hard to make the reunion shows successful."When you're inside a band and you're playing these songs that have such a long history, you're still looking for a way to have them come alive," he said. "You're always tightening up the screws and adjusting the fan belt or whatever. It's very rewarding, that process."Triumph's lineup for the tour includes Emmett, Gil Moore and Mike Levine, who is currently absent due to health issues. Guitarist Phil X, drummer and keyboardist Brent Fitz, and bassist Todd Kerns are also performing with the band.Emmett praised the new members for bringing fresh energy to the shows."It's not what Triumph was," he said. "It's Triumph, but it's kind of this ' ber Triumph,' like Triumph on steroids. The reload actually seemed to give it a lot more cylinders in the engine."Triumph's reunion tour is scheduled to end June 10 in Quebec. The final show was rescheduled after being postponed earlier in the tour.

Mick Jagger Hints at Future Rolling Stones Tour

Posted by rdhouserockusa — Mon, 1 Jun 2026 14:12 GMT

Mick Jagger says he "can't wait" to tour again with The Rolling Stones, but fans should not expect an announcement soon.Speaking on BBC Radio 2's "Tracks of My Years" with Ronnie Wood, Jagger responded to a question about whether the Stones will tour again. "I'd love to go on tour, I can't wait," Jagger said. "I don't think it's going to be this year. But hopefully it's going to be as soon as possible."The comments follow reports that the band canceled plans for a U.K. and European stadium tour in late 2025 or 2026. Media outlets have cited Keith Richards' inability to commit to the tour as a reason for the change. Richards has since suggested the group could return to touring in 2027. Jagger's latest remarks add weight to that possibility. The interview aired ahead of the band's 25th studio album, "Foreign Tongues," set for release July 10 on Polydor/Universal Music. The album was recorded in less than a month at Metropolis Studios in West London with producer Andrew Watt, who also worked on 2024's "Hackney Diamonds." Guest appearances include Paul McCartney, Robert Smith of The Cure, Steve Winwood, and the late Charlie Watts.Jagger said the collaboration with Smith came about by chance at an industry event. "He was standing there with his back to me and this long gown on and when he turned around, he was covered in lipstick," Jagger said. "And I said, 'You're Robert Smith of The Cure.' He said, 'Yeah, we've never met.' And I said, 'While you're here, you better go and do something.' That's how collaborations work sometimes."McCartney, who also appeared on "Hackney Diamonds," discussed his role with NME. "It was really nice to just show up at a studio with your bass and just say, 'Right, where do you want me?'" he said. "You start playing, and they show you the song, and I start thinking, 'I'm playing with the Stones!'""Foreign Tongues" includes previously released tracks "Rough and Twisted" and "In the Stars," along with a cover of Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good." The full tracklist was revealed earlier this month, with song titles listed in various foreign languages on streaming platforms."Hackney Diamonds" debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in 2024, the band's highest U.S. chart position since "Voodoo Lounge" reached No. 2 in 1994.
