Crossroads Guitar Festival Returns This Fall to Austin

LONDON - Eric Clapton has announced the return of his Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2026, featuring a lineup of prominent artists including Pete Townshend, Billy Gibbons and Buddy Guy, among others. The two-day event is scheduled for Sept. 26-27 at Moody Center in Austin, marking the festival's first appearance in the city. Clapton is slated to perform both nights. Tickets go on sale April 3 at 10 a.m. local time, according to organizers. "We are thrilled to welcome the legendary Eric Clapton and his Crossroads Guitar Festival to Moody Center," said Michael Owens, the venue's senior vice president of entertainment, in a statement. "Out of the more than 380 concerts we've hosted since opening in 2022, this is poised to be one of the most iconic events ever to take place in our arena." Additional performers include Tedeschi Trucks Band, Joe Bonamassa, Del McCoury Band, John Mayer and Jimmie Vaughan. Also on the bill are Trey Anastasio, Marcus King, Taj Mahal, Sierra Hull, Sonny Landreth, Tommy Emmanuel, Julian Lage, Keb' Mo', Ben Haggard, John McLaughlin, Robert Randolph, Pedro Martins, Dirk Powell, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Daniel Santiago and Bradley Walker with Brothers of the Heart. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Crossroads Centre Antigua, founded by Clapton in 1998 to provide treatment and education for people affected by substance abuse and their families. In addition to the festival, Clapton will play a series of U.S. tour dates beginning Sept. 6 in Detroit and concluding Sept. 17 in Kansas City. Vaughan is scheduled to open those shows.

Guns N' Roses Launch 2026 World Tour in Mexico

MONTERREY, Mexico (AP) - Guns N' Roses launched its world tour Saturday at the Tecate Pa'l Norte, performing before an estimated 100,000 attendees at Parque Fundidora, according to festival organizers. Frontman Axl Rose greeted the crowd in English, saying, "It's good to see you," during the band's set on the second day of the festival's 14th edition. The Los Angeles-based group opened with its 1987 hit "Welcome to the Jungle," followed by a mix of catalog staples including "Mr. Brownstone" and "Bad Obsession." Rose briefly addressed the audience in Spanish, saying "Muchas gracias," before the band performed covers of "Live and Let Die," originally by Paul McCartney and Wings, and "Slither," by Velvet Revolver. The band - featuring Rose, guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan - also debuted two songs, "Nothin'" and "Atlas," marking their first live performances. Dash Crofts, Half of Seals and Crofts, Dies

Dash Crofts, the surviving half of the 1970s soft rock duo Seals and Crofts, has died. The news was confirmed by Louie Shelton, who produced several of the group's albums."Sad to hear our dear brother and partner in music has passed away today," Shelton said in a social media post. "Sending love and prayers to all his family and many fans."Crofts, born Darrell Crofts in Cisco, Texas, was a pianist and drummer in his youth. He met Jim Seals while playing in Dean Beard and the Crew Cats, and both later joined the Champs following the group's hit "Tequila."Seals and Crofts moved to California to pursue music, though Crofts temporarily left to serve in the military. The duo reunited in 1969 and helped pioneer the soft rock genre in the early 1970s. With Shelton as producer, their third album, "Year of Sunday," was released in 1971, followed by a string of hits including the title tracks from the double-platinum "Summer Breeze" (1972), "Diamond Girl" (1973), and the gold-selling "Get Closer" (1976), all of which reached the Top 10 on the charts.Crofts and Seals shared songwriting duties and vocals, with Crofts also playing guitar and mandolin. Their other notable songs include "Hummingbird," "I'll Play for You," and "You're the Love," each reaching the Top 20, while "We May Never Pass This Way (Again)" peaked at No. 21. Brian Setzer has shared new details about his recent health struggles as he prepares for a summer tour with the Stray Cats.Setzer, who revealed last year that he had been battling a debilitating autoimmune disease, said he was treated at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. At one point, Setzer said he was "frozen in pain" and developed an addiction to Kratom, an over-the-counter herbal supplement.Setzer said his condition left him unable to complete everyday tasks."It's frustrating when you sit down and your hands do nothing," Setzer told Guitar Player magazine. "You really can't take it for granted. Playing guitar is certainly on top, but so is holding a toothbrush."Setzer said he eventually found relief at the Mayo Clinic, where he received a proper diagnosis."The best way I can describe it is, your nerves are like wires, and wires have sheathing on them," Setzer said. "Well, that coating has kind of eroded, so the wires malfunction. Basically, they lock up my hands and feet. I can't move them. I can't button my pants, let alone play guitar."Setzer described a slow recovery process, starting with the ability to hold a guitar pick and later regaining enough dexterity to fingerpick. "When my fingers came back, then I had the whole package," he said.The Stray Cats had announced a 2025 tour but later canceled it. Setzer said he sought treatment for his Kratom addiction at the Hazelden Betty Ford clinic in Minnesota."They advertise it as a safe tonic to give you energy, and it's not," Setzer said. "So that just aggravated the whole thing. I just stopped everything and went away and cleaned out and came back fresh and clean."The Stray Cats-Setzer, bassist Lee Rocker, and drummer Slim Jim Phantom-are scheduled to begin a 16-show tour in late July, with dates running through August.

AC/DC Guitarist Stevie Young Hospitalized After South America Concert

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina - Stevie Young, guitarist for Australian rock band AC/DC, was hospitalized following a recent concert in South America, a band spokesperson said."Out of an abundance of caution, he was admitted to a local [Buenos Aires] hospital where he is undergoing a full battery of tests," the spokesperson said, according to Reuters. "Stevie is doing well and is in good spirits. He is looking forward to getting onstage on Monday."Young, 69, joined AC/DC in 2014 after his uncle, co-founder Malcolm Young, was diagnosed with dementia. He previously substituted for Malcolm Young during the band's 1988 U.S. tour and played on the 2014 album "Rock or Bust." He was officially named a band member later that year. Phil Collins, who led the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2026 fan vote for the first three weeks, has been surpassed by R&B group New Edition.Collins, inducted into the Rock Hall as a member of Genesis in 2010 and now nominated for his solo work, took an early lead when this year's nominees were announced in late February. The list also includes Billy Idol, the Black Crowes and INXS.New Edition, close behind Collins since voting began, has now moved into first place. As of Thursday morning, the group had more than 606,000 votes, about 50,000 ahead of Collins' 554,300.New Edition, which rose to prominence in the mid-1980s, continues to maintain a large following. The group is on a successful tour, and several members have promoted the fan vote on social media.In addition to their work as a group, members Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant have enjoyed solo success. KISS Opens Rock & Brews in Detroit, Plans New Projects After Touring Retirement

DETROIT - KISS is opening a new Rock & Brews restaurant this week in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak, marking the 19th location since the chain's launch in 2010. The opening comes as the band continues to pursue a number of projects following its retirement from touring in 2023.Bassist and co-founder Gene Simmons told Ultimate Classic Rock that fans can expect more from KISS in the coming years, including on-screen and on-stage appearances. "More is good," Simmons said. "We're working really hard, all of us, in making sure that the quality of everything will blow you away because over the years the fans have been expecting not the norm, but the extra norm."Simmons compared the band's new phase to a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly. "In many ways, (KISS) was the caterpillar that went into the cocoon and you think that's the end, but it's really the beginning. We are going to go where no band has gone before," he said.Among the most anticipated projects is a KISS avatar show, teased during the final concert of the End of the Road World Tour at New York's Madison Square Garden on Dec. 2, 2023. Simmons said he could not share specifics but promised it would be announced within two years. "We're gonna blow your socks off in a way multiple times more exciting than the Sphere," he said, referencing the Las Vegas venue known for its immersive concert experience. Simmons said the KISS avatar show will be staged worldwide and will involve multi-sensory elements, including heat and scent effects, not just visual spectacle.In addition to the avatar show, KISS has two film projects in development. A biopic directed by McG and co-produced by Mark Canton is in the scripting and casting phase. Simmons said the director is completing work on "Baywatch" before moving on to the KISS film. PEORIA, Ill. - Members of REO Speedwagon reunited Saturday, March 7, in Peoria for a surprise performance honoring late guitarist and Peoria native Gary Richrath. Billy Idol Recalls Near-Death Experience From Drug Use in 1980s

Billy Idol says the closest he came to death occurred during a night of heavy drug use in the early 1980s.During a recent appearance on comedian Bill Maher's podcast, "Club Random," Idol recounted the incident, which took place following the release of his 1983 album "Rebel Yell.""I went back to England in triumph with the album 'Rebel Yell,'" Idol said. "I was going to do it on 'Top of the Pops' in England. I've had this big record in America."Idol said a group of friends met him at the airport with heroin. The group went to a hotel room, where, according to Idol, everyone else in the room eventually passed out except for him and one other person.Idol said he preferred to snort heroin rather than inject it, a choice he attributed to his mother's profession as a nurse.Eventually, Idol was the last person in the group to lose consciousness. "When other people in the room came to, I was going blue," he said.Idol said he was likely close to death. "If you're dying, you're going to start turning blue," he told Maher. His friends revived him by running water on him in a bath. "I survived," Idol said.Idol, who described himself as "California sober" during the interview, said he eventually quit heroin, but the withdrawal was extremely difficult. "It's like a skeleton is trying to get out of your body," Idol said, describing the feeling of coming off the drug."Heroin is really great. The worst thing is getting off it. That's what stops me from going back to it-the thought of getting off. It's so terrible," he said.Idol said he used other drugs as well. "Once you're trying to get off heroin, what do you go to? You go to something else," he said. "I started smoking crack to get off heroin. It worked."Looking back, Idol acknowledged his drug use during that period. "I liked taking drugs back then. I enjoyed it. It took me a long time to put them in the rearview mirror, but at some point I realized you had to do that," he said.Idol is a nominee for the 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class. Paul McCartney was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 1999, but a previously unpublished 2015 interview reveals he was disappointed it took so long.Journalist Joe Hagan spoke with McCartney for more than an hour in March 2015 while researching "Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine," a biography of the Rolling Stone founder released in 2017. Only a small portion of their conversation appeared in the book, but Vanity Fair recently published the full interview online.McCartney's Frustration with the Rock HallThe Beatles were inducted into the Rock Hall in 1988, and McCartney frequently attended induction ceremonies in the early years. And I bought the deal. Next year came around [and nothing happened]," McCartney said. "So it was like, 'Can you ring Jann? What's going on? Neil Sedaka, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter known for hits such as "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do," "The Diary," "Oh! Carol" and "Laughter in the Rain," has died at age 86.Sedaka's family confirmed his death Friday in a statement."Our family is devastated by the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Neil Sedaka," the statement read. "A true rock and roll legend, an inspiration to millions, but most importantly, at least to those of us who were lucky enough to know him, an incredible human being who will be deeply missed."Sedaka, born March 13, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, began his music career in his teens during the 1950s. He first found success with the doo-wop group The Tokens, then partnered with neighbor Howard Greenfield. The Sedaka-Greenfield songwriting team reportedly sold 40 million records between 1959 and 1964.Sedaka placed 30 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including three No. 1 singles and nine top 10 hits. Eleven of his albums reached the Billboard 200 chart, with "The Hungry Years" peaking at No. 16 in December 1975.Sedaka's influence extended to other artists. Micky Dolenz of the Monkees called Sedaka "a rare talent," noting that Sedaka wrote "When Love Comes Knockin' (At Your Door)" for the group's 1967 album "More of the Monkees." Elton John called Sedaka's death "very sad news" and praised his work at Rocket Records in the 1970s, adding, "He deserves to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame." Carole King wrote, "Neil Sedaka was so talented, and he inspired me to follow my dream of being a songwriter."Sedaka was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was honored with the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award and Special International Award from The Ivors. Iron Maiden Announces 2026 Tour Finale and 2027 Touring Hiatus

Iron Maiden fans who are undecided about seeing the band this year may want to act quickly: The heavy metal group plans to take a break from touring for all of 2027. The band announced Thursday that it will wrap up its 2026 tour with two shows at K-Arena in Yokohama, Japan, on Nov. 24 and 25. These concerts will mark the end of Iron Maiden's "Run for Your Lives" 50th anniversary world tour, which began in May 2025 and features material from the band's first nine albums, spanning from 1980's "Iron Maiden" to 1992's "Fear of the Dark." "These two shows will be extra special as they are the very last shows the band will play until at least 2028, as they take a well-earned break from being on the road for the whole of 2027," the band said in a news release announcing the Japanese dates. "We are very excited to be bringing this Run for Your Lives tour to Japan later this year," bassist Steve Harris said in a statement. "And even more so as we are ending the entire two-year world tour in Yokohama. I have always loved spending time in Japan, and we enjoy coming back whenever we can to play for our fans there. So it feels extra special for us to be sharing the final two nights of this incredible tour with you all in Japan. It's going to make it a truly memorable occasion for us all." The latter half of 2026 will be especially busy for Iron Maiden. The "Run for Your Lives" tour will resume in late May and continue through November, with stops in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. The European summer leg includes EddFest, a two-day music festival with curated fan experiences scheduled for July 10 and 11 in Knebworth, England. Iron Maiden will perform on the second night, alongside Mongolian folk-metal band The Hu, British group The Darkness, Australian rockers Airbourne, and Scottish rock/metal band The Almighty. The festival will also feature a museum walkthrough and Eddie-themed fairgrounds with games and rides. A new documentary, "Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition," is set for theatrical release on May 7, 2026. The band was also recently nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for the third time.

Rush Extends Reunion Tour Into 2027 With New International Dates

Rush has announced new tour dates for 2027, extending their "Fifty Something" reunion tour into next year with additional concerts across South America, the United Kingdom and Europe.The newly announced dates begin Jan. 15 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and run through April 10 in Helsinki, Finland. The 2027 shows follow the band's extensive 2026 North American tour, which starts June 7 in Los Angeles and ends Dec. 17 in Vancouver, British Columbia.The reunion marks Rush's first concerts in 11 years. Following the death of longtime drummer Neil Peart in 2020, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson had previously said they would not continue as Rush. Steve Perry has confirmed he will not be joining Journey onstage during their upcoming Final Frontier tour.In an interview published Tuesday by Ultimate Classic Rock, Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain said guitarist Neal Schon had reached out to Perry about the possibility of making a guest appearance on the tour."Neal already asked, and he says (Perry's) thinking about it. I hope he comes out. It's never too late. We've got 100 shows, so he's welcome at any one of them," Cain said. "He didn't say no - leave it at that."However, Perry later addressed the rumors directly on his Facebook page, making it clear he will not be rejoining the band."I've been hearing these recent rumors, and I wanted to speak to you all directly," Perry wrote. "While I'm always grateful for the love people still have for Journey, the rumors about me rejoining the band are simply not true, and I want to gently put them to rest."I completely understand why people would hope for that. The music we created together means a great deal to me too. But I'm continuing to explore new creative work and really enjoy working on new music that reflects where I am today."Thank you for your continued support throughout the years. As Jonathan Cain prepares to close out his career with Journey on the band's planned two-year Final Frontier Tour, the keyboardist, guitarist and co-writer of many of Journey's biggest hits is releasing new music of his own.On Feb. 27, the day before the tour begins in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Cain will release "Only a Prayer Away," a six-song Christian EP. Cain told UCR the material was drawn from a larger batch of songs he wrote during a hiatus from the band."I had that year off (from Journey) and was doing ministry, and I was not going to do another one of these faith things, Christian worship pieces," Cain said in a Zoom interview from his home in Florida. "And then God wouldn't leave me alone. The songs kept coming - 'What about this? What about this?' I have a whole, full album, about 15 songs now. I decided to put six out, then I'll have another six, then maybe an album. Nobody has time to listen to 15 songs, anyway."Cain said the inspiration for this set of songs came from a disaster relief trip to Chimney Rock, North Carolina, which was devastated by Hurricane Helene in 2024. Cain was there with the CityServe Network and Paula White Ministries, led by his wife."We were watching the reconstruction of this town, people who lost just about everything," Cain said. "They were all working together, three feet of mud, nobody was whining or complaining or crying. It was all just, 'Let's get this done and support each other,' just an incredible attitude. I was like, 'This is a very moving moment,' and God was like, 'What are you gonna do about it? Write a song; I'll give you a title - 'Amen to the Rescue.' By the time we got home I had it finished."Cain said his faith-based music is a "labor of love" and central to his identity as a musician."I welcome it, because it's my creative juice. It's who I am as a person," he said. "If you looked at 'Faithfully,' it could be a worship song if you changed one word - 'Oh Lord, you stand by me/I stand by you, faithfully.' And God, I come to you with open arms, or 'Don't Stop Believin',' 'hold on to that holy spirit feeling.' Faith has always been a part of who I am, so it's not a stretch."Journey's Final Frontier TourJourney's Final Frontier Tour will feature a two-hour set, including the band's classic hits, deeper cuts from the early years, and songs from the "Infinity" album."It'll be an evening-with, a two-hour set," Cain said. "We'll hit all of our legacy songs and some of the later ones; instead of 90 minutes of greatest hits you'll get deep cuts from the beginnings of Journey, just kind of take 'em down memory lane, 'cause we have the time to do that."Despite past tensions within the band, especially between Cain and founding member Neal Schon, Cain said the group remains committed to delivering for fans."Over the years we go in different directions and we have different priorities," Cain said. "And when we come together as Journey it's a force. That's one thing we've always been able to do, is really deliver the music. The music of Journey belongs to the people. We're simply the caretakers. Even when I was with the Babys (opening for Journey), I watched and was like, 'Oh my goodness, they sure love these guys.' Any kind of junk between us shouldn't get in the way of that. When you get on stage it's all about their songs. They're coming and giving up their time to see you, so you want to be your best and deliver a great experience for them."Cain dismissed speculation about frontman Arnel Pineda's legal issues in the Philippines or Pineda's social media comments suggesting he might not participate in future tours."He's gonna be fine," Cain said. "He's a singing machine. He's got his kids coming out. He'll be great."Cain said the 60 dates currently announced, running through July 2, are just the beginning, with more shows to be announced through 2027.Cain's Final Tour With JourneyCain said he is serious about this being his last tour with Journey."I had a long time to contemplate what I wanted to do," he said. "It just feels like a good time to get off the train. I'm going to be 76 on Feb. 26; you've got to at some point say enough's enough. It's a grind, man. "They all say the same thing: 'My daddy got me up on worship, and that's where I got my chops.' So that's exciting, doing things, other side projects, like that."

Nancy Wilson Plans Final Heart Album and "Victory Lap" Tour to Celebrate Fifty Years

Nancy Wilson said she hopes to record one more Heart album and take a "victory lap" to celebrate the band's 50-year legacy with her sister and bandmate, Ann Wilson.The guitarist and singer discussed her desire to follow up Heart's most recent album, 2016's "Beautiful Broken," during a recent interview on Andy Frasco's World Saving Podcast."I go through these phases. Right now I'm in a phase of really feeling like creating some new songs. And I've got songs going on," Wilson said. "But I feel like this is the perfect time for Heart - this year, next year - to make a victory lap out of our legacy. So I figure we need to make one more Heart album."Wilson praised Heart's current lineup, which includes members of Ann Wilson's solo band, Tripsitter."Especially with these players that we have in the lineup right now in this band, we're just really excited to play together, and there's no limits on what we could pull off as musicians," she said. "So I've got a few songs, and Ann's working with those guys in her side band right now writing other songs. But I think I'm gonna want to make the last Heart album and do the victory lap and make 2027 mainly about the Heart film, the Heart documentary."A Heart biopic, reportedly in development for several years, is now close to fruition, according to Wilson. She said the project has some notable names attached."We've got a big movie, and we've got a final draft soon to read that Carrie Brownstein - who did 'Portlandia' and is known for her work with Sleater-Kinney - is working on," Wilson said. "And we've been working mainly with her. And it's so weird too, because you kind of have to go, well, OK, who would be the actor that plays you?"Wilson suggested Elle Fanning as a candidate to portray her and said Florence Pugh could play Ann Wilson.Despite her enthusiasm for making new music, Wilson said touring has become "entirely exhausting." Heart is scheduled to launch the 2026 leg of its Royal Flush tour on Sunday.When asked whether the idea of a "victory lap" felt strange, Wilson responded, "Kind of, but then as the grandchildren start arriving? Not as crazy to think about doing less of the big rock tour. I mean, it's entirely exhausting to do that travel. And when you're not quite as young and rubbery as you always were, going through almost 50 years of doing that, you really get paid for the travel on those rock tours."The show itself is the thrill - the million thrills and the glory and that magic thing," Wilson said. "I would do that for free, and I probably will end up doing music somehow for as long as I can live. But the tour part, it's really rough on you."

Winger Announces 2026 Shows After Previously Signaling Farewell

After what were believed to be their final performances last year, rock band Winger has announced a handful of tour dates for 2026.Drummer Rod Morgenstein discussed the group's decision to continue performing during a recent episode of "The Classic Metal Show." He described 2023 as a difficult year after the band initially ended its run."Last year turned out to be a very rough year emotionally for me because I didn't realize how much my life and my vision of who I am is tied up in my band," Morgenstein told host Chris Akin. "A lot of musicians understand that, but a lot don't really until it hits them in the face."Morgenstein, who previously played with the Dixie Dregs before joining Winger, said the decision to slow down was largely due to the physical demands on lead singer and bassist Kip Winger, who is known for his high vocal range."We've been talking about the end of the band for years," Morgenstein said. "When the band formed, Kip, Reb [Beach, guitarist] and Paul [Taylor, keyboardist] were in their twenties, and I was in my thirties. Back then, singing in the stratosphere was no problem. Nearly 40 years later, it becomes an issue for every singer."Despite these challenges, Morgenstein said the band never officially announced a final show."We knew it was coming," he said. "At the last concert, instead of saying, 'This is the last show. You'll never see Winger again,' we said, 'Never say never. Circumstances change.' Sure enough, we have four shows on the books this year-a festival in Brazil and a festival in Cancun."Kip Winger has previously addressed the band's uncertain future and expressed reluctance to declare a definitive end, referencing other bands' extended farewells."At some point I'm going to play a final show with the band," Winger said in March 2023. "I don't know when it is. But that's not to say I might not do a cruise or something. I'm not saying, 'Hey, this is the last show we're ever going to do,' because, well, Kiss did it for 10 years."Winger, who has focused more on classical music in recent years, also noted he will not miss the rigors of touring."The biggest thing is the traveling," Winger said. "If you do 40 gigs in a year-and sometimes we do more than that-you have twice that many days on each end traveling. You spend half the year sitting in an airport. We're not a huge band-we don't fly around in our own Learjet-so it takes a toll. All my personal goals just end up drifting away in an airport somewhere in Chicago. So my life will be different in that way."Winger released their most recent album, "Seven," in 2023. TORONTO - Main songwriters Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman are back on tour as the Guess Who, following a series of court proceedings over the rights to the band's name. However, the legal dispute is ongoing.The Takin' It Back Tour began over the weekend in Canada, marking Cummings and Bachman's first performance together in decades. The concert came just days after former bandmates Jim Kale and Garry Peterson filed a lawsuit challenging the way Cummings regained the rights to the Guess Who name.Cummings, who has long been absent from the lineup, retained rights agreements to the band's most famous songs, including "These Eyes," "No Time" and "American Woman," which he co-wrote with Bachman. Cummings terminated those agreements, which prevented the existing lineup of the Guess Who from performing those songs on stage, leading to the cancellation of several scheduled shows.Following that decision, Cummings risked losing a significant source of income, as no one else was permitted to perform the songs. LOS ANGELES (AP) - Chuck Negron, a founding singer of the rock group Three Dog Night, died Monday at his home in Studio City, California. He was 83.According to a statement released by his family, Negron died surrounded by loved ones. A cause of death was not specified. The statement noted that Negron had lived with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for several decades and had recently battled heart failure.Three Dog Night, formed in Los Angeles in 1967, is best known for hit singles including "Mama Told Me Not to Come," "Joy to the World" and "Black and White." The group featured a three-singer lineup of Negron, Danny Hutton and Cory Wells.Negron was born June 8, 1942, in the Bronx, New York, and began singing in doo-wop groups as a child. He performed lead vocals on several of Three Dog Night's biggest hits, including "Joy to the World," "One," "Old Fashioned Love Song" and "The Show Must Go On."Danny Hutton, the band's only remaining touring original member, wrote on Facebook: "I received the news today that my former bandmate from Three Dog Night, Chuck Negron, passed away peacefully at his home." A group of renowned rock musicians paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne during the 68th annual Grammy Awards.The "in memoriam" segment began with country singer Reba McEntire performing her song "Trailblazer" as images of late musicians appeared on screen. Deep Purple Prepares New Album for Tentative June Release

Deep Purple's next album is tentatively set for release in June, according to frontman Ian Gillan.In an interview with Songwriting for Songwriters, Gillan said the band is in the late stages of completing the album but has not yet revealed a title. The news comes as a positive development for fans, as Gillan has faced some recent health challenges.The upcoming release will be Deep Purple's 24th studio album and their first since 2024's "=1." "It's basically very optimistic," Gillan said, without disclosing many details. "Let's say there's a general theme. It's a fairly loose conceptual idea of the end of humanity, but not as grim as it sounds. In fact, it's very optimistic. It's about the metamorphosis of humanity into a metaphysical state, our next incarnation."Bassist Roger Glover, speaking with UCR in August 2025, confirmed the band's ongoing collaboration with producer Bob Ezrin remains strong, but said the group benefited from a recent break. Motley Crue Wins Legal Dispute With Former Guitarist Mick Mars

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Motley Crue has won a decisive legal victory over its former guitarist Mick Mars, following an ongoing legal dispute that began after Mars retired from the band in 2022.Mars alleged that his former bandmates were withholding financial compensation and colluded to remove him from the group. He claimed he was owed 25% of the band's touring revenue, despite no longer being an active member. The Black Crowes have announced a summer tour for 2026, with more than 40 dates scheduled across North America beginning in May.The Southern Hospitality Tour is set to start May 17 in Austin, Texas, at the Moody Center and will continue through Aug. 20, concluding at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. Skid Row Nears Decision on New Singer and Teases Upcoming Music

Nearly two years after Skid Row parted ways with singer Erik Gronwall, the band is making progress in its search for a new frontman, according to bassist Rachel Bolan."We have a couple guys on our radar," Bolan said in a recent interview with the Rockstrap podcast. He added that as the new year begins, the band plans to audition more candidates with the help of management and producer Nick Raskulinecz, known for his work with Foo Fighters and Rush.Bolan told podcast hosts Don Jamieson and Keith Roth that the process has been detailed. "We're all going through each person, saying, 'Okay, let's get in a room with this person,' or 'This person is a little too young or too green, or they can't sing. Who told them they could sing?'" Bolan said.Bolan emphasized that personality is a key factor in the decision. "We have a couple guys on our radar that we're pretty excited about," he said. "So hopefully before the end of the year, we'll be back out on the road."Skid Row has gone through several lead singers in the nearly three decades since parting ways with Sebastian Bach. "It's just one of those things," Bolan said. "We had a really good thing going with Erik. I think the road was just too much for him, given his past health issues.""It just didn't work out, which was a bummer. He was great. I mean, he fit right in," Bolan added. He noted that the band is continuing to write songs, though working remotely has posed challenges. "I wish we all lived within an hour of each other, rather than flights away. That would make things so much easier."In addition to writing new material, Skid Row performed a short run of shows in early 2024. Lzzy Hale of Halestorm temporarily filled in on vocals in May as the band fulfilled dates following Gronwall's departure.Fans hoping for a reunion with Bach are likely to be disappointed, as Bolan and guitarist Dave "Snake" Sabo have both said on multiple occasions that a reunion is not in the cards.New music is still on the horizon. The Eagles performed without guitarist Joe Walsh at Sphere on Jan. 24 after he came down with the flu, marking their first show without him since he joined the band in 1975."We had a choice to make," Don Henley told the audience. "We could either cancel the whole thing, or we could man up and do the show. So we came down here this afternoon and had an emergency rehearsal for two hours. And fortunately, in this band, we have a deep bench."Walsh's guitar parts were largely covered by Deacon Frey and Vince Gill. Frey, who joined the Eagles in 2017 after the death of his father, Glenn Frey, took on Walsh's signature "Hotel California" guitar solo alongside new guitarist Chris Holt. "He was sick last night," Henley said. "But he heroically made it through most of the show... Joe's going to be okay. He just needs some time. Phil Collins Remains Hopeful for Future Music Despite Health Challenges

LONDON (AP) - Phil Collins, the former Genesis frontman, says he remains optimistic about recording new music, even as he continues to face significant health challenges.In a recent interview with Zoe Ball from BBC Radio Two, Collins, 74, spoke candidly about his ongoing medical issues, which have included a series of surgeries and complications in recent years."It's an ongoing thing," Collins said. "I have a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication as I should. I've had challenges with my knee. Everything that could go wrong with me did go wrong. I got COVID in the hospital. My kidneys started to back up. Everything seemed to converge at the same time. I had five operations on my knee. Now, I've got a knee that works, and I can walk, albeit with assistance, crutches or whatever."Collins acknowledged that his kidney problems were likely related to alcohol consumption earlier in his life."I wasn't one of those guys that stayed up all night drinking," he said. "I'd drink during the day, but I guess I had too much of it. I was never drunk, although I fell over a couple of times. But it is just one of those things that happened, and it all caught up with me, and I spent months in hospital."Collins said he has been sober for more than two years. Combined with his recovery from knee surgery, he said he is finally starting to feel better."It's just been a difficult, interesting, frustrating last few years," he said. "It's all right now."Collins last performed in 2022 during Genesis' farewell tour. He has not played drums since 2009, after a surgery caused nerve damage, and remained seated throughout the band's final performances due to his health.While a return to touring appears unlikely, Collins said he still hopes to return to the recording studio."The things that are ahead for me would be, apart from just being back to being totally mobile and healthy, maybe go in [the studio] and have a fiddle about and see if there's more music," Collins said. "You tend to sort of feel, 'That's it, I've done that.' But you've got to start doing it to see if you can do it. Otherwise, you don't do it. So that is something on my horizon."Collins, a two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, added that he already has unfinished material that could lead to new music."I've got some things that are half-formed or were never finished, and a couple of things that were finished, which I like," he said. "So maybe life in the old dog. You'll see."

Def Leppard Releases New Single 'Rejoice' Ahead of Las Vegas Residency

Def Leppard has released a new single, "Rejoice," ahead of the band's upcoming Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace, which begins Feb. 3."This song's been an amazing journey from concept to conclusion," lead singer Joe Elliott said in a press release. "I said to [guitarist] Phil [Collen] one day, 'I've got this idea for a lyric where the narrator is at absolute rock bottom and wants to rise up to a higher level. Do you have a musical piece that might match with that?' And he said, 'As it happens, yes I do.'"Collen described the creative process, saying, "I had this riff, this idea for a song a while ago actually, so when Joe came to me I created this drum loop based with a tribal sound and it fit perfectly with this other arrangement I had. I sent it to Joe and it was like magic - he sang straight over the top of it. And that's how the song was formed."Collen added, "Then we gave it to Ronan [McHugh] who'd done a proper drum loop with different sounds. It all started gelling and just sounded like a powerful chant. We love it. It's hard rock for us. It's got a bit more of an 'oomph' than stuff we've been doing for a while. It's kind of magical.""Rejoice" is Def Leppard's first new material since their mid-2024 release "Just Like '73," a collaboration with guitarist Tom Morello. In January 2025, the band released a cover of Ben E. Rush will celebrate the 40th anniversary of their 1984 album "Grace Under Pressure" with an expanded box set set for release March 13.The anniversary edition will be available in multiple formats, including a five-disc super deluxe edition with four CDs and one Blu-ray. The set features a 2025 remaster of the original album, a new mix by longtime producer Terry Brown, and a complete live show recorded at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens on Sept. 21, 1984. Poison has canceled plans for a 2026 reunion tour after frontman Bret Michaels reportedly demanded a significantly larger share of the band's profits, according to drummer Rikki Rockett.Although the band never officially announced a tour, Poison members had discussed plans to celebrate their 40th anniversary with a series of live dates. In September 2024, Michaels told reporters that a reunion in 2026 "would make perfect sense" and described the proposed run as "the perfect 40th anniversary tour, with 40 awesome limited dates to go out, play real live hit songs and rock the world."Rockett said the tour fell through due to disagreements over compensation. "We had a great offer, I thought. But we left the table," Rockett told Page Six. "It didn't work."Rockett said he, guitarist C.C. DeVille and bassist Bobby Dall had agreed to the tour, but that Michaels requested the "lion's share" of the money-reportedly asking for a 6-to-1 split. "You just can't work that way," Rockett said. "I don't do this just for the money. I do have a love for this, absolutely. But at the same time, you don't want to go out and work really hard just to make somebody else a bunch of money."Rockett said he did not harbor resentment over the situation. "Every member of this band has given me so much privilege in life," he said. "It's like hating your parents."When asked if Poison might tour with a different singer, Rockett said it was unlikely. "It's not out of the question. But doing that is like surgery: it's the last resort," he said. "I don't want to do that. I'm not quarreling with Bret. We just didn't come to agreement. I don't like it, and I'll say that, but it's not like, 'Let's put up our dukes.' I don't think there's a better frontman for Poison."Michaels has solo tour dates scheduled in 2026. "Though rock streaming in general leans catalog-tracks older than 18 months-the genre posted the second-highest total of new current streams this year."Rock accounted for 260.5 billion streams in 2025, up from 234.22 billion in 2024. While classic tracks continue to dominate, both longtime fans and new listeners are contributing to the genre's resurgence.Rock's popularity extends beyond streaming. Lynyrd Skynyrd Planning Autobiography, Biopic and Possible New Music

Lynyrd Skynyrd has plans for two major projects in 2026: the band's first official autobiography and a potential film about its history, according to manager Ross Schilling. The Southern rock group may also release new music.Schilling said the band is working on its autobiography and is in discussions to create a biopic chronicling Skynyrd's early years, the 1977 plane crash that killed original lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and two other band members, and the group's continued legacy under current frontman Johnny Van Zant, Ronnie's brother."We have two or three big players interested in doing the official movie for the band," Schilling told Ultimate Classic Rock. "We think, obviously, the story is tremendous. There's probably not a better story out there in music, certainly in rock 'n' roll. We don't know if it will be a two-hour motion picture film or go to Netflix or somebody and do a six- or eight-episode series."No cast, director or release date have been announced for the possible screen adaptation. Schilling said several biographies have been written about the "Sweet Home Alabama" band, but "none by the people that were closest to it and lived it."Schilling, who has managed Lynyrd Skynyrd since 1999, recently left Vector Management to form King Duke Entertainment. He will continue to manage the group, its current frontman and the estates of the original members, the last of whom, Gary Rossington, died in 2023, according to Ultimate Classic Rock.The band's 2026 plans also include a joint tour with Foreigner, with a concert scheduled for Aug. 23 at the Broadview Stage at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, New York. According to the family, Weir was diagnosed with cancer in July 2025. Despite beginning treatment only weeks earlier, he performed with Dead & Company, the Grateful Dead's latest offshoot, in August during a three-night run at Golden Gate Park celebrating the band's 60th anniversary."It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Bobby Weir. He transitioned peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after courageously beating cancer as only Bobby could. Unfortunately, he succumbed to underlying lung issues," the statement read.The family described Weir as a guitarist, vocalist, storyteller and founding member of the Grateful Dead whose "unique artistry reshaped American music." They recalled his six-decade career as one that "built a community, a language, and a feeling of family that generations of fans carry with them." The statement continued: "Every chord he played, every word he sang was an integral part of the stories he wove. There was an invitation: to feel, to question, to wander, and to belong."Weir's final months, the family said, reflected "the same spirit that defined his life." After his diagnosis in July, he "began treatment only weeks before returning to his hometown stage for a three-night celebration of 60 years of music at Golden Gate Park. Stephen Pearcy, founder and lead singer of the rock band Ratt, was at the forefront of the group during its rise to fame in the 1980s hair metal scene.Ratt's 1984 debut album, "Out of the Cellar," and its hit single "Round and Round" propelled the band to prominence. However, by the early 1990s, the group had begun to unravel.During a recent interview on Billy Corgan's "The Magnificent Others" podcast, Pearcy reflected on his career and said he would make different choices if given the chance."One thousand percent I would've done it differently," Pearcy said. "When I created the band Ratt, I didn't have all the answers. I just created the thing. And there was a lot of my songs. The whole first Ratt EP is all me. I wrote the whole EP except for '[You Think You're] Tough.' I give Robbin [Crosby, guitarist] credit because he was my right-hand man."Pearcy said the band's eventual breakup was due to internal conflicts."It was cool the first few years, with Robbin and me directing the madness," Pearcy said. "Because I followed the Van Halen schematic. My work ethic was, 'We're gonna kick ass. We're gonna look great. We're gonna do this.' Then it wasn't that anymore."By 1992, Crosby was struggling with heroin addiction, and Pearcy frequently clashed with other band members over creative control. Ratt disbanded, though drummer Bobby Blotzer and guitarist Warren DeMartini later continued with other musicians."When you start wanting to do things against the grain, you've got, like, mutiny on the bounty," Pearcy said. "They all went after me and then they all fell. So, you know, I'm the last man standing."Pearcy still performs Ratt's classic material and, in recent years, has been joined onstage by DeMartini. Ohio High Schools Approve NIL Compensation for Student Athletes

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Member schools of the Ohio High School Athletic Association have approved a proposal allowing high school student-athletes to receive compensation for their name, image and likeness. A total of 447 schools voted in favor of the proposal, 121 schools opposed it, and 247 abstained. "We would like to thank our member schools for taking ownership of this NIL bylaw proposal," OHSAA Executive Director Doug Ute said in a statement. "Whether our schools or individuals agree with NIL at the high school level or not, the courts have spoken on this issue across the country that the NCAA and high school athletic associations cannot prevent a student-athlete from making money on their NIL." Member schools spent the past week voting on the proposal, which was introduced in October after a lawsuit was filed by Huber Heights Wayne football player Jamier Brown and his mother, Jasmine. Brown, one of the top-rated players nationally in the class of 2027 and already committed to Ohio State, is represented by an attorney who said he could receive significant financial benefits from NIL. However, under prior OHSAA rules, accepting those deals would have made him ineligible to compete. Franklin County Judge Jaiza Page recently granted a temporary restraining order against OHSAA eligibility rules that prohibited high school athletes from signing endorsement deals while maintaining amateur status. Under the new OHSAA bylaws, student-athletes are permitted to accept NIL deals as long as they do not use the name, logos, mascots, trademarks or other property of any OHSAA member school. Student-athletes are prohibited from engaging in personal branding activities during school hours or while traveling to or from any OHSAA event. They are also prohibited from accepting compensation based on athletic performance, such as for the number of points scored. The bylaws prohibit student-athletes from accepting deals intended to influence them to attend a specific school, and schools are not permitted to arrange deals on behalf of student-athletes. When entering an NIL agreement, student-athletes must notify OHSAA within 14 days or risk being declared ineligible for up to 20% of the season.
