COLE EARNS FIRST DIAMOND PLAQUE AS 'MIDDLE CHILD' HITS MASSIVE SALES MILESTONEhttps://www.blackvibes.com/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-1522487/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-1522487/Posted by djbosslady0https://www.blackvibes.com/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-1522487/#commentsFri, 26 Jul 2024 16:09 GMTJ. Cole has finally earned his first-ever diamond plaque as his 2019 song "Middle Child" has reached an impressive milestone. A record receives diamond certification from the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) when it sells 10 million certifiable units in the U.S., with Cole achieving the feat for the first time with the 2019 hit. Despite hitting eight-figure sales, "Middle Child" never topped the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at No. 26 and peaking a week later at No. 4. It has, however, gone on to become one of Cole's most enduring songs. It was previously reported two years ago that his 2014 track "No Role Modelz" had passed 10 million units but the song was never officially certified diamond by the RIAA. With the certification, J. Cole joins an esteemed list of Hip Hop stars who already possess diamond plaques. Eminem leads the way among rappers with six in total. Three are for his albums The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show and Curtain Call: The Hits, while the other three are for the singles "Lose Yourself," "Not Afraid" and the Rihanna collaboration "Love the Way You Lie." Drake, 2Pac, Kanye West, Cardi B and JAY-Z also have multiple diamond records each, with Hov just recently earning his third for "Empire State of Mind." Among all genres, Post Malone currently holds the record for most diamond singles with nine, followed by Rihanna and The Weeknd with seven each. Moneybagg Yo Recalls Amazement At J. Cole's entry into the diamond club means he has pipped "Big Three" rival Kendrick Lamar to the post, despite him previously admitting that he felt inferior to the Compton rap star, as well as Drake. "Some people say I'm running third / They threw the bronze at me / Behind Drake and Dot / Yeah, them n-ggas is superstars to me," he rapped on his 2021 track "Heaven's EP." The North Carolina native also bowed out of his recent rap battle with Kendrick after dissing him on "7 Minute Drill," dividing opinion among rap fans and fellow rappers. He boldly apologized to his "Forbidden Fruit" collaborator onstage at his Dreamville Festival in April, saying he felt "blessed to even stand beside [Kendrick and Drake], let alone chase their greatness."327406NEWS LIVE RADIONEWSblogs/7-2024/327406-news-live-radionews-s.jpgICE SPICE CLAIMS LATTO BEEF IS ONE-SIDED: 'IT'S A JOKE THAT SHE'S DRAGGED OUT'https://www.blackvibes.com/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-79657/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-79657/Posted by djbosslady0https://www.blackvibes.com/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-79657/#commentsFri, 26 Jul 2024 16:08 GMTIce Spice has made the bold claim that her ongoing beef with Latto is entirely one-sided. Speaking to Rolling Stone ahead of her new album Y2K!, which dropped on Friday (July 26), the Bronx rap star addressed her rumbling rivalry with her Atlanta contemporary. Asked about the feud, Ice Spice responded: "I feel like if we ever spoke and I asked her 'What's the issue?' it'd be like a blank stare. It'd really be no issue whatsoever. Especially from me. "I can understand a friendly competition, but I just feel like at this point it's a joke that she's just dragged out, and it's just not even funny." She also suggested that she's living rent free in Latto's head: "Like, bro, 'Think U the Shit' is from January. You're going to post a piece of shit cake to announce something that's good news for you? "But it is kind of a compliment because you're taking something that's supposed to be a fun moment for you and you're making it about me ... again." Latto recently said in a magazine cover story of her own that she doesn't view Ice Spice as a willing opponent when it comes to a rap battle. She told Billboard: "If I was to do [a battle], it would have to be with somebody I feel like I'ma go tit for tat with. I really don't mean it as shade. Would she even want to do that? After Spice released "Think U the Shit (Fart)," which included a thinly-veiled reference to Latto's hit single "Put It On Da Floor," the Sweet Honey Iced Tea MC hit back with her own song, "Sunday Service." On the track, she rapped: "Think I'm the shit, bitch, I know it, ho / Jesus walked on water, I got ice boilin' though." The song also featured several other lines aimed at the "Munch" hitmaker including: "These bitches corny, soon as monkey see, then you know monkey do / Do you rap or do you tweet? / 'Cause I can't tell, get in the booth, bitch" and "I just want a one-on-one, don't know why she so nervous."327405NEWS LIVE RADIONEWSblogs/7-2024/327405-news-live-radionews-s.jpgTORY LANEZ STUNS FANS WITH SOUND QUALITY OF NEW 'PRISON TAPES' SONGShttps://www.blackvibes.com/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-1588197/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-1588197/Posted by djbosslady0https://www.blackvibes.com/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-1588197/#commentsFri, 26 Jul 2024 16:07 GMTTory Lanez has released new music from behind bars - but they aren't your typical prison songs. On Friday (July 26), the incarcerated rapper kickstarted his recently announced Prison Tapes series by dropping two new tracks, "Cell 245" and "Wish I Never Met You." The former opens with an automated message from a prison phone call and finds Tory reflecting on his past adversity and the spoils of his success over a hard-hitting beat. "Shootouts gave me PTSD, that's the damage that it did / I'm talking hammers at the crib, I'm talking hammers at my grandma's house / She in the kitchen cooking, finding hammers in the counters, real steppa," he raps. The latter, which begins with the same audio recording, showcases Lanez's softer side as he sings about becoming entangled in a toxic relationship over an Afrobeats-flavored instrumental. "I can't lie, I just wish I'd never met you in the first place / Damn, why you had to come and kiss me in the first place? / Damn, why we had to even mix it in the first place? / Damn, then w went ahead and slid into third base / And I wish I'd n ver ever met you in the first place," he sings on the hook. However, it wasn't the lyrics or the production that caught fans' attention, but the sound quality of the songs considering they were recorded behind prison walls. "Tory Lanez really got some crazy quality on this song. You dead can't even tell he did this over a prison phone," one impressed listener wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Another said: "How is Tory lanez song quality this good from jail[.] he wasn't lying he cracked the code," while a third fan joked: "They gave Tory Lanez a whole studio." When announcing his Prison Tapes series earlier this week, Tory claimed to have "cracked the code" when it comes to attaining a studio-level sound from behind bars. "It's over. I done cracked the fucking code, man. This means that not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music. It's crazy!" He added: "That being said, I'm about to start dropping hot heaps of coal on y'all head top. I'm dropping the all new 'Free Tory' playlist - it's gon' be updated every week with new music that I'm recording from prison in real time. "This is the first of its kind and although God has already shown me that this moment is only temporary, it speaks testimony to the fact that no matter where they put me they can't lock down my spirit, my ambition, my soul my passion nor my destiny!" Tory Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after being found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion during a drunken dispute in July 2020. He has repeatedly maintained his innocence and recently filed a second appeal of his sentence.327404NEWS LIVE RADIONEWSblogs/7-2024/327404-news-live-radionews-s.jpgA Miami Legend DJ Uncle Alhttps://www.blackvibes.com/features/blogs/djbosslady-hiphop-news-today-a-226417/features/blogs/djbosslady-hiphop-news-today-a-226417/Posted by djbosslady0https://www.blackvibes.com/features/blogs/djbosslady-hiphop-news-today-a-226417/#commentsMon, 22 Jul 2024 01:43 GMTDJ Uncle Al, born Albert Leroy Moss on August 14, 1969, in Miami, Florida, was a pioneering DJ and influential figure in the Miami bass and hip-hop scenes. They wrote and produced the song along with keyboard player Jerry Cohen.</div> </div>"Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" is about succeeding despite having faced previous disadvantages ("so many things that held us down"). It was widely interpreted to be about the experience of the African American community, and after attaining popularity, became referred to as "the new black national anthem" (the original being the 1900 song "Lift Every Voice and Sing").</div> </div>Kelefa Sanneh noted the song was, "an exuberant number often interpreted as an expression of Black pride", but also that the authors of the song were in a dispute over royalties with their record label Philadelphia International. Whitehead said, "If anything, the song was a declaration of our independence from Gamble.</div> </div>Despite being seen as social commentary, in an interview conducted by Philadelphia video producer Bob Lott, Whitehead and McFadden revealed that the song was actually about their frustration with Philadelphia International owners Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, who for many years preferred that they remain as house songwriters and not performers. Gamble has confirmed that upon first hearing "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now", he tried unsuccessfully to convince McFadden and Whitehead to give the song to the O'Jays, as he felt it was better to write and produce for the prominent recording artists of the day than to try to compete with them as on-stage performers.</div> </div>This song features a female chorus in the repeated refrain. Electronic beeping feedback sounds are heard towards the ending of the longer version of the song.</div> </div>Released as the lead single from the album, the song spent a week at number one on the R&amp;B singles chart. It also proved to be a successful crossover hit, peaking at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single also made it to number 10 on the disco charts, and reached number 5 in the UK. It eventually went double Platinum for selling 2 million copies.</div>326050Hip,Hop,news,and,live,radioblogs/7-2024/326050-hip-hop-news-a-1266-s.jpgPLIES CLOWNS TRUMP FOR FALLING ASLEEP AT RNC DESPITE KODAK BLACK WARNINGhttps://www.blackvibes.com/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-859457/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-859457/Posted by djbosslady0https://www.blackvibes.com/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-859457/#commentsWed, 17 Jul 2024 00:33 GMTPlies has continued to take aim at Donald Trump, despite Kodak Black recently warning him about "slandering" the former president. According to a complaint viewed by HipHopDX, a woman identified only as Jane Doe filed a lawsuit in Miami-Dade on July 11 accusing Gotti (real name Irving Domingo Lorenzo) of sexually assaulting and abusing her on several occasions from 2020 to 2022 in Saint Martin, Miami and Atlanta. The suit seeks a trial by jury. Among the accusations, Doe alleges Gotti coerced her into having sex with him as soon as they arrived to Saint Martin in 2020 - a trip they took just after meeting at a poker tournament. He threatened to send her home if she didn't, and "due to his power and influence in the music world, she complied," the suit reads. They then reportedly began dating for two years, during which Doe "suffered constant abuse." Amid the split, the suit alleges Gotti slandered her to his "vast social network in and around Los Angeles," leaving her fearful to leave home. "As a result of this sexually abusive relationship, Plaintiff has suffered severe emotional and psychological harm for which she had to be committed to a psychiatric ward," the lawsuit reads. "These injuries continue and affect Plaintiff to this day." 50 Cent was quick to share the news about his longtime nemesis to Instagram. The brothers, born Ronald and Brian Williams, were the guests of honor at the second annual YouTube Leaders & Legends Gala, which took place in LA on Thursday (June 27). Full-screen During the star-studded black tie event, the New Orleans moguls were given their flowers through speeches from YouTube's head of music, Lyor Cohen; BMI's vice president of creative Catherine Brewton; producer Polow Da Don; and Republic Records' chief executives Avery and Monte Lipman, who are also brothers, and who recognized the Williams brothers as mentors throughout their own careers. Others in attendance included 2 Chainz, LL Cool J, NLE Choppa, Saweetie, Queen Naija, Yo Gotti, Kevin Liles, and Quality Control co-founder Pierre "P" Thomas. Taking to the stage alongside his brother, Birdman used his acceptance speech to recall his and Slim's upbringing and the business impact Cash Money's legendary run had on the game, per Billboard. "Life wasn't easy for us; living in every project in New Orleans," he said. "I was a real lost youngster trying to find a way because I'd been in and out of homes, in and out of jail, jumped in the streets at 12 years old; at 14 years old, I was wearing two Rolexes. I met some youngsters and didn't want them to go my route, right? [Cash Money rapper] B.G. was hitting that route, and I saw that [Lil] Wayne looked like he was going that route too. " He continued: "I wanted to save their lives. My whole mission was to try to spare a life. And I needed help too because I was reckless. The only person that I respected enough to spare my life was my brother. And my way of saving their [B.G., Lil Wayne] lives was putting them in the studio. The studio was going to be the new streets. "But all due respect to Jay-Z, I remember when he said he retired and Wayne shot a video and said since the best rapper retired, I'm the best rapper alive. And a lot of sh-t changed for us from that moment. At the same time n-as were saying hip-hop is dead. And we're like honestly, what the f-k is they talking about? We ain't know nothing about that type of sh-t." Birdman concluded: "So we felt like this was our time to take over hip-hop. That's when the birth of Young Money came, Nicki and Drake came. We kind of held hip-hop down. We survived the warfare in New Orleans. Now we're surviving in life, and we did a great job at it. [When] we started, all I thought about was saving four lives, and we end up saving thousands of motherf-kers' lives. I give all gratitude to my brother, who was like my father, for saving my life." Slim, on the other hand, started out his address to the crowd by celebrating the three celebrated Cash Money alums who were on hand for the event. "They were in friendly competition with each other. We started off doing two songs and would end up doing five songs a night. They were there competing like a basketball player for real. But what really makes me so proud that they're going on in their careers with generational wealth, doing other things outside of music while keeping music going. "My brother and I went through a lot to get to this point. Someone once told me growing up that I ain't never going to be sh-t and ain't worth a quarter. But you've got to do better than that to break me down. I ain't breakable like that. It made me want to go hard and work hard, so I've got a few more quarters now. He then closed out with a bit of advice for the crowd: "Don't let no one tell you what you cannot do! You do your thing. That's the only way you're going to win. "I love y'all," Slim added after shout outs to Polow, Mannie Fresh, Juvenile, Jeezy, Turk and Wayne. "Ain't nobody else alive going to do what we've done - ever."322463NEWS LIVE RADIONEWSblogs/6-2024/322463-news-live-radionews-s.jpgKENDRICK LAMAR SPOTTED FILMING 'NOT LIKE US' MUSIC VIDEO OUTSIDE COMPTON CITY HALLhttps://www.blackvibes.com/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-57766/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-57766/Posted by djbosslady0https://www.blackvibes.com/features/blogs/djbosslady-news-live-radionews-57766/#commentsMon, 24 Jun 2024 01:17 GMTKendrick Lamar has filmed a music video for his smash hit "Not Like Us," with what seemed like all of his native Compton neighborhood serving as extras. In a clip shared by The Art Of Dialogue on X (formerly Twitter), the former Top Dawg Entertainment rapper can be seen dancing in front of a row of bystanders as the song draws to an end. The outlet reported the footage was captured outside of Compton City Hall, which was the second location for the shoot on Saturday (June 22). Several other clips have been shared online, including one in which Kendrick and the song's producer Mustard are being filmed as they walk out of the Rosecrans location of local culinary landmark Tam's Burgers. Other shots find the two collaborators dancing in front of the restaurant; then joining the crowd gathered in the parking lot just outside. In yet another clip, TDE president Punch can be seen supporting Kendrick on set. K. Dot and his team reportedly shelled out a pretty penny to have LASD Deputies serve as security during the video shoot. TMZ reported on Friday (June 21) that the superstar rapper is paying Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies $120 an hour to keep him, his team and the community safe. According to the site, the added security has nothing to do with K.Dot's recent drama with Drake. The post stated: "While law enforcement sources tell us the police are aware of Kendrick's recent beef with nemesis Drake, we're told no known threats have surfaced at this time." The "Not Like Us" shoot culminates a thrilling week for Kendrick Lamar, who turned his "Pop Out" concert into a family affair by inviting ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock and Ab-Soul onstage for a Black Hippy reunion. In a statement to News 4 Jax, attorney Lewis Fusco said that the rising Jacksonville rapper had hosted a birthday party at an Airbnb in Tampa on Saturday (June 22), which was shut down due to the number of people in attendance. Foolio, born Charles Jones, took to his Instagram Stories hours before his death, and told followers that the party had been cut short by police officers who also "kicked them out" of the rental property. News 4 Jax reports that several social media posts had advertised the location of the party. Upon leaving the Airbnb, Fusco says that Foolio got a room at a nearby Holiday Inn, which is where he was killed. According to Tampa NBC affiliate WFLA, local police confirmed that the shooting took place around 4:40 a.m. on Sunday morning (June 23), in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn located on the corner of Fowler Avenue and McKinley Drive. "What we have learned, and this is early in the investigation, two cars were shot at," Tampa Police Department public information officer Jone Lewis told the station. In a press release, Lewis later wrote: "The victim in this morning's shooting is believed to be Charles Jones. Positive identification is pending confirmation from the Medical Examiner's Office." Three other individuals were taken to an area hospital with gunshot wounds, but are expected to survive their injuries. This is the fourth time Julio Foolio was the target of a shooting in as many years. Most recently, the rapper was shot at in the early hours of October 7, 2023. According to WTLV-TV, sources said his black Dodge Challenger was riddled with bullets and he was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were said to be "severe." Follio reportedly didn't cooperate with law enforcement regarding the shooting. However, a gruesome photo of what appears to be his foot with a bloody hole in the middle arch went viral online within days of the incident. Julio's family initially addressed the shooting on his Instagram Story, writing: "Keep Foolio, my son, in y'all prayers he was shot last night in his hating city." They later followed up with a positive update on his condition, sharing a photo of the rapper in hospital along with the caption: "Yall know he good," He was also the victim of gun violence back in 2021 when he claimed he dodged 100 shots by the grace of God. During an interview on Sirius XM's Flavor Of The Week that aired on Monday (June 17), he revealed that the series could be brought back to life after more than two decades of inactivity. "We finally got some traction with Warner Bros.," he told host Flavor Flav. "They have new leadership. My man Mike DeLuca, who used to be at New Line when I first started, when I first did the first Friday and Players Club and All About the Benjamins. Mike DeLuca was there, so now he's running Warner Bros." Additionally, the N.W.A alum also shared a recap of his talks with the studio. "It was like, 'Yo, what the fuck is going on with Friday? Man, let's get this back online,'" he continued. "And I was a little hot 'cause they had took so long because John Witherspoon passed away. Tiny passed away. A.J. Johnson passed away. Like, man, we keep losing people and y'all keep dicking around not doing the movie the way it need to be done. They want to do it, but the key is it gotta be done, or we shouldn't fuck with it. So they finally came to their senses." So far, the trilogy comprises Friday (1995), Next Friday (2000) and Friday After Next (2002). Last year, Cube revealed that Warner Bros. owns not only the name of the franchise he created but also the names of its characters. "You gotta use the same [intellectual property]," he stated. "Can't call it Saturday without using Craig and Day-Day. So it's the same thing, really." While vowing to continue fighting for its ownership, the LA legend made it clear that he's not interested in entering into a legal battle with his former studio partners. However, he did state that he will keep trying to "convince Warner Bros. that they're wrong." The 55-year-old rap veteran first confirmed that he was working on a fourth installment in the series during a late night interview back in 2017. However, that film has yet to materialize. During a live taping of Drink Champs at the Rock The Bells festival in 2022, the "No Vaseline" MC explained that he presented two scripts to the studio, both of which were rejected. "Then, after they rejected it, they had all these fucking movies about going to jail: Orange Is The New Black ...Get Hard. So then I wrote another script, and the script was really about ... the youngsters in the hood having beef with the OG's in the hood, and Craig has to come back and squash that because Smokey's son is the new Deebo and he's wylin!" Ye purchased the Southern California property back in 2021 for $57.3 million in the hope of remodeling the designs of famed Japanese architect Tadao Ando. In January, however, it was once again put up for sale after construction was halted in early 2023. The half-baked home is currently on the market for a reduced price of $39 million, which means the Chicago native is willing to accept a loss of $18.3 million should someone take the deal. As of now, the building does not have running water, electricity and walls. Last week, The New Yorker published a report on how the "Flashing Lights" hitmaker devalued the coastal gem in his attempt to give it a remix. Check out the video package below: Earlier this year, the property's exclusive real estate agent Jason Oppenheim spoke to The Wall Street Journal about the house, claiming that the "blank canvas" presents a "unique opportunity" to the right buyer. Contrarily, an expert told the publication that the buyer would have to sink an exorbitant amount of money to make the concrete hull livable again. On Monday (June 17), Billboard reported that the Detroit native's "Houdini" has remained at No. 1 on the United Kingdom's singles tally for yet another week. This marks the first time a song of his has remained in the top slot of a chart for more than one cycle. Furthermore, it is also his first solo chart-topper in the region since 2005. The nostalgic joint has also topped the charts in Canada, Australia, Switzerland and Norway. As for the United States, Em narrowly missed out on landing his first Billboard Hot 100 number one in over a decade thanks to the continued chart dominance of Post Malone and Morgan Wallen's "I Had Some Help." The D12 MC's latest single debuted at No. 2 on the tally, becoming his highest-charting single since 2013. In its first week, "Houdini" generated close to 50 million streams as well as four million radio impressions. The 51-year-old already has 10 other cuts that previously led the rankings, namely "The Real Slim Shady" (2000), "Stan" (2000), "Without Me" (2002), "Lose Yourself" (2002), "Just Lose It" (2004) and "Like Toy Soldiers" (2005) as a solo artist, plus his cameos on Akon's "Smack That" (2006), Rihanna's "The Monster" (2013), Ed Sheeran's "River" (2017) and Juice WRLD's "Godzilla" (2020).
