J. Cole has finally earned his first-ever diamond plaque as his 2019 song "Middle Child" has reached an impressive milestone. A record receives diamond certification from the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) when it sells 10 million certifiable units in the U.S., with Cole achieving the feat for the first time with the 2019 hit. Despite hitting eight-figure sales, "Middle Child" never topped the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at No. 26 and peaking a week later at No. 4. It has, however, gone on to become one of Cole's most enduring songs. It was previously reported two years ago that his 2014 track "No Role Modelz" had passed 10 million units but the song was never officially certified diamond by the RIAA. With the certification, J. Cole joins an esteemed list of Hip Hop stars who already possess diamond plaques. Eminem leads the way among rappers with six in total. On Friday (July 26), the incarcerated rapper kickstarted his recently announced Prison Tapes series by dropping two new tracks, "Cell 245" and "Wish I Never Met You." The former opens with an automated message from a prison phone call and finds Tory reflecting on his past adversity and the spoils of his success over a hard-hitting beat. "Shootouts gave me PTSD, that's the damage that it did / I'm talking hammers at the crib, I'm talking hammers at my grandma's house / She in the kitchen cooking, finding hammers in the counters, real steppa," he raps. The latter, which begins with the same audio recording, showcases Lanez's softer side as he sings about becoming entangled in a toxic relationship over an Afrobeats-flavored instrumental. "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" is a 1979 disco song performed by American R&B duo McFadden & Whitehead, from their debut album McFadden & Whitehead. Irv Gotti is being sued in a Miami court for alleged sexual assault and abuse that occurred over the course of two years. According to a complaint viewed by HipHopDX, a woman identified only as Jane Doe filed a lawsuit in Miami-Dade on July 11 accusing Gotti (real name Irving Domingo Lorenzo) of sexually assaulting and abusing her on several occasions from 2020 to 2022 in Saint Martin, Miami and Atlanta. The suit seeks a trial by jury. Among the accusations, Doe alleges Gotti coerced her into having sex with him as soon as they arrived to Saint Martin in 2020 - a trip they took just after meeting at a poker tournament. He threatened to send her home if she didn't, and "due to his power and influence in the music world, she complied," the suit reads. They then reportedly began dating for two years, during which Doe "suffered constant abuse." Amid the split, the suit alleges Gotti slandered her to his "vast social network in and around Los Angeles," leaving her fearful to leave home. "As a result of this sexually abusive relationship, Plaintiff has suffered severe emotional and psychological harm for which she had to be committed to a psychiatric ward," the lawsuit reads. In a clip shared by The Art Of Dialogue on X (formerly Twitter), the former Top Dawg Entertainment rapper can be seen dancing in front of a row of bystanders as the song draws to an end. The outlet reported the footage was captured outside of Compton City Hall, which was the second location for the shoot on Saturday (June 22). Several other clips have been shared online, including one in which Kendrick and the song's producer Mustard are being filmed as they walk out of the Rosecrans location of local culinary landmark Tam's Burgers. Other shots find the two collaborators dancing in front of the restaurant; then joining the crowd gathered in the parking lot just outside. Dot and his team reportedly shelled out a pretty penny to have LASD Deputies serve as security during the video shoot. Julio Foolio has been killed after, in the words of his attorney, being "basically ambushed" in the wake of an event celebrating his 26th birthday. In a statement to News 4 Jax, attorney Lewis Fusco said that the rising Jacksonville rapper had hosted a birthday party at an Airbnb in Tampa on Saturday (June 22), which was shut down due to the number of people in attendance. Foolio, born Charles Jones, took to his Instagram Stories hours before his death, and told followers that the party had been cut short by police officers who also "kicked them out" of the rental property. News 4 Jax reports that several social media posts had advertised the location of the party. Upon leaving the Airbnb, Fusco says that Foolio got a room at a nearby Holiday Inn, which is where he was killed. According to Tampa NBC affiliate WFLA, local police confirmed that the shooting took place around 4:40 a.m. on Sunday morning (June 23), in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn located on the corner of Fowler Avenue and McKinley Drive. "What we have learned, and this is early in the investigation, two cars were shot at," Tampa Police Department public information officer Jone Lewis told the station. In a press release, Lewis later wrote: "The victim in this morning's shooting is believed to be Charles Jones. Positive identification is pending confirmation from the Medical Examiner's Office." Three other individuals were taken to an area hospital with gunshot wounds, but are expected to survive their injuries. This is the fourth time Julio Foolio was the target of a shooting in as many years. Most recently, the rapper was shot at in the early hours of October 7, 2023. According to WTLV-TV, sources said his black Dodge Challenger was riddled with bullets and he was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were said to be "severe." Follio reportedly didn't cooperate with law enforcement regarding the shooting. However, a gruesome photo of what appears to be his foot with a bloody hole in the middle arch went viral online within days of the incident. Julio's family initially addressed the shooting on his Instagram Story, writing: "Keep Foolio, my son, in y'all prayers he was shot last night in his hating city." They later followed up with a positive update on his condition, sharing a photo of the rapper in hospital along with the caption: "Yall know he good," He was also the victim of gun violence back in 2021 when he claimed he dodged 100 shots by the grace of God.
