Regan reviews the Beam Eye Tracker!

Regan reviews the Beam Eye Tracker!

It's no secret that gaming emersion tools such as Tobii Eye Tracker and TrackIR have been available for gamers for a while now. The ability to free up your hands and use

your other God given body parts for gaming was revolutionary. However, the downside to this was the price and extra hardware you had to use. For example, the TrackIR can run up

to 170 bucks! And the Tobii eye tracker is even more than that! I'll admit, the price is always what prevented me from getting one of these setups. But what if I told you that there was

another option that not only is affordable but uses equipment you most likely already have.

That option is Beam Eye Tracker.

Beam Eye Tracker is a new and affordable eye tracking software that utilizes your webcam to enhance any gaming experience. No need to 'suit up" by using glasses, hat, headband, or anything to get the emersion you've been looking for. And the best part is that it is only $29.99 USD. Don't have webcam? Beam can use your smartphone as a webcam.

Their website can guide you through these simple processes. If you're still not sure, they also offer a free demo via their website and Steam.

Download and installation is easy and straight forward, and the initial setup process was also hassle free. So far so good. I also decided to follow their lead by trying this out on American Track Simulator. Communication between Beam and the Simulator was flawless and instantaneous. The only problem that arose was my eyes. As cool as the eye tracking part was and no matter how well it worked, I just kept getting headaches while using the eye tracking option. That is a "me" problem, not the program. But I was able to use the head tracking option and boy was I impressed.

Now don't get me wrong, there is a good amount of time needed to calibrate this software to suit you, the player. The open track program that works in tandem with Beam gives you various options for speed, range, and sensitivity of your movements. With Flight Sim 2020 I made my movements slower and smoother in order to enjoy the scenery and focus on my instruments. But with DCS (Digital Combat Sim) I increased movement sensitivity and range to make quick snap looks for dogfighting and other combat scenarios. These settings can also be saved as profiles as well. Once dialed in this program works great.

Beam has delivered a really solid product here and any issue I had was due to me not knowing what I was doing. I really appreciate what Beam is offering. A cost-effective way of helping every gamer enjoy the technology that seemed to be out of reach for those on a tight budget. Bravo Beam!

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin - (June 11, 2024) - A new youth aviation activities area located in the Vintage Aircraft Association area on the EAA grounds is the latest edition to the expanding youth and family activities taking place at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2024. The 71st edition of the Experimental Aircraft Association's fly-in convention and air show is July 22 through the 28.

"Nearly all of us involved in aviation today were inspired at some point in our younger years," said Paul Maloy, EAA's director of education. "When we began welcoming those 18-and-under at no charge beginning in 2021, we immediately noticed an increase in the number of families at AirVenture. With that, we wanted to create and expand possibilities for families to encourage them to visit and engage with everything AirVenture has to offer."

The Charles W. Harris Youth Aviation Center in the vintage aircraft area gives youth the chance to have a "hands-on" experience by using hammers, pliers, and other tools to discover how aircraft are maintained. Kids will also have the opportunity to talk to pilots and hear their flying stories, as well as get a tour of the pilots' airplanes. The center will officially open to the public at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 22, AirVenture's opening day.

In addition to this new experience, families are encouraged to visit the Youth Welcome Center located at the main Four Corners intersection to receive information on all the other activities for youth and families happening through the week. Some of those activities include:

KidVenture - Entering its 25th year, KidVenture invites kids to get hands-on with riveting, engines, electrical wire circuits, propeller design, wooden rib building, RC airplanes, space exploration, and more. (Ages 3-14). Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

AeroEducate Center - Located at the south entrance to Aviation Gateway Park, will again host fascinating morning forums focusing especially on youth ages 10-18, and a full slate of fun, fast hands-on activities held in the afternoons of each day throughout AirVenture. Come play the games and learn more about how you can explore all things aviation through the AeroEducate program and open doors to exciting aviation/aerospace career opportunities (Ages 10-18) Monday - Sunday 9am - 5pm.

NASA STEM Zone - Kids can enjoy hands-on activities, demonstrations, and exhibits that highlight some of NASA's missions and programs. Find out more about NASA's X-59, Artemis mission, and Sustainable Flight Demonstrator, with different activities running each day. Earn your AirVenture endorsement codes for NASA's Flight Log program and start building your virtual flight log (Ages 5-17). Monday - Sunday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

In addition, flight simulators are open to young people in the EAA Warbirds of America area and various exhibitors throughout AirVenture offer activities and items for young people.

    EGDW Glenswinton Aerodrome for MSFS

Glenswinton Aerodrome is a small, privately owned airstrip nestled in the picturesque countryside of the UK and caters to both recreational and light aviation activities. Situated amidst rolling green hills, it offers a serene and scenic backdrop for flying enthusiasts.

Glenswinton Aerodrome has a rich aviation heritage dating back to the pioneering days of flight. Originally serving as a military airfield during World War I, it played a crucial role in defending the skies over the UK. After the war, the airfield transitioned into a civilian facility, becoming a hub for flying clubs and private aviators.

Over the decades, Glenswinton Aerodrome has witnessed numerous milestones in aviation history, from the golden age of biplanes to the modern era of sleek, high-performance aircraft. Its quaint hangar and vintage barns stand as silent witnesses to the evolution of GA aviation.

Despite changes in ownership over the years, Glenswinton Aerodrome has remained a beloved institution within the aviation community, cherished for its idyllic setting and enduring dedication to fostering a passion for flight. Today, it continues to serve as a vibrant hub for GA aviation enthusiasts of all ages, preserving its legacy as a cherished piece of the UK's aviation heritage. Today, the property is the site of a logging operation, but we have decided to keep the rich history and scenery of the area alive and not reflect these new operations.
