2 men accused of a series of robberies targeting customers leaving check cashing business

INDIANAPOLIS -- A pair of accused thieves are facing a dozen criminal charges following a series of armed robberies over the last several weeks.

Police said the suspects chose their victims at random by targeting a pair of near east side businesses.

The suspects allegedly sat in their car and watched for victims in the parking lot of a PLS check cashing business on East Washington Street, as well as a second nearby business.

After following the victims home, the accused crooks would rob those innocent people at gunpoint.

The crime spree began in early March when a man and his underage son left PLS and drove home to Leland Avenue, where they were ambushed by two men who demanded cash at gunpoint.

Two weeks later, two more victims left the Rural Inn on East Michigan Street, which also cashes checks, and were followed home to Dearborn Street, where they reported being robbed by the same two suspects.

The following week, a man and woman again left the PLS and returned home to East New York street, where two armed thieves pointed guns at their heads and stole more than a thousand dollars in cash.

"In this case, these individuals were targeting people with cash on them," said IMPD officer Tommy Thompson. "That's what they were going after and we need people to be aware of their surroundings."

Following the three robberies, court records claim IMPD undercover units tracked down a Ford used in the crimes and put Jordan Hall and Eugene Garner under surveillance.

This past weekend, the pair were arrested following a fourth robbery of two men on Colorado Avenue.

"We're always laser-focused on getting these repeat offenders and in this case, we see that where we got these people off the streets to keep the community safe," said Thompson.

The affidavit in the case claims Hall confessed to the crimes and explained that while all the victims were Hispanic, they "weren't targeting Mexicans but just watching people get into their cars at the PLS."

Hall added that they "did the robberies on certain nights because that's when people get paid."

After the arrests, police seized two guns allegedly used in the crimes.

IMPD urges anyone who leaves a business carrying a large amount of cash to be mindful of who's around them.

"We want to always have our head on a swivel, keeping our head up and looking for those around us," said Thompson.

Both suspects made their initial court hearings this week.

Hall is being held on an $80,000 surety bond, while Garner is being held on a $10,000 cash bond.
