FRANKLIN, Ind. - An Indianapolis man allegedly told a woman he was "attracted to children." But this disturbing admission wasn't the worst of his confessions.
Joseph "Joey" Moore, 22, is accused of raping and molesting a child for nine years.
According to court documents, Moore spoke to Johnson County Sheriff's Department detectives in early April. He told the detective he had "knowledge" of raping the victim but couldn't recall the "memory" of it.
The sexual assault allegedly occurred at a home in Franklin. The victim told investigators the rape and molestation had occurred for nine years.
The victim recalled some of the traumatic assaults during a police interview. When police asked Moore about these specific allegations, he again said he "knew" about the incidents but had no "memory." Moore did tell investigators that the victim had no reason to lie or make up the allegations against him.
According to court documents, Moore described himself as a "pathological liar" and said it was one of the reasons his relationship with the mother of his children ended. Investigators said it was this former girlfriend who told detectives that Moore allegedly confessed to an attraction toward children.
Moore argued against this "confession," however. He claimed it wasn't quite accurate, claiming he only admitted to an attraction toward the victim.
When investigators confronted Moore about details from the victim's two-hour interview, Moore allegedly put his head down and said he was "sick" and that there was "something wrong" with him.
Moore allegedly told detectives it wasn't the victim's fault and if he didn't assault the victim, he "would have done it to someone else," the detective wrote.
On March 31, Moore was charged with one count of rape, a Level 3 felony, and one count of sexual misconduct with a minor, a Level 6 felony.
If convicted, Moore faces up to 16 years in prison on a Level 3 felony.
