"We have a lot of low-lying areas in the county," said Misty Moore, Director of Hancock County Homeland Security. "... So, the water tends to come up through the foundation and then pour into the lower level living areas."
The flood emergency declared Wednesday covers damage caused by floodwaters from April 2-6. With the emergency declaration in place, county authorities have begun to provide resources to those impact by recent flooding.
Calling 211 is the easiest way for flood victims to begin to access resources available to them. By calling 211, property owners can begin to report damage their homes, sheds and other buildings sustained.
More information on Indiana 211 is available here. Updates from Hancock Homeland Security are available on the department's Facebook page.
