IMPD investigating three late-night shootings across Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS -- Three men were injured in separate overnight shootings across Indianapolis.

The incidents happened in three different areas around the city in the span of just a few hours, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Windsong Drive shooting

IMPD said the first shooting happened Monday at 11 p.m. in a neighborhood in the 2000 block of Windsong Dr. on Indy's far east side. When officers arrived, they located a man who'd been shot in the leg.

Police didn't disclose the extent of his injuries, but he was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.

Investigators described the incident as a shootout between individuals with at least 10 shots fired. Officers were searching for a white Chevy Impala that was seen leaving the neighborhood.

Bridgewood Drive shooting

Around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, IMPD responded to a shooting at an apartment in the 7000 block of Bridgewood Dr. on the north side. Officers found a man with a gunshot wound who was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in stable condition.

A caller reported hearing more than a dozen shots, police said.

"A 911 call reported hearing about 19 or 20 shots before officers arrived," said Capt. John Arvin with IMPD.

"Right now officers have located shell casings on the street, and they are canvassing hoping to find some door camera... doorbell camera video that will help detectives see a vehicle that was leaving the scene, or people, or just one suspect that was leaving the scene might help then out a lot," Arvin said.

Police believe the shooting was targeted, and officers were checking to see if witnesses saw or heard what led up to the incident.

21st and Tibbs shooting

About two hours later, IMPD responded to a third shooting on the near northwest side where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds at 21st and Tibbs. He was able to speak to officers before being taking to Eskenazi Hospital.

The man told detectives that he was from Camby and was visiting his visiting his friend, and somehow ended up walking through the park alone.

"The victim said he was walking through the park here at 21st and Tibbs and there were three males sitting on a bench," Arvin said. "The male victim kept walking past them and he heard a gunshot."

The man felt a burning sensation and ran away.

"He ran all the way to 21st and Tibbs because there is a streetlight there and he thought he'd be safe and that's where he called police from, and police arrived and found him," Arvin said.

Police believe that there is no threat to the public, but are searching for witnesses that can help detectives figure out what happened. Detectives were sent to the hospital to talk to the victim in hopes of gathering more information.

"It's going to be really tough to get doorbell camera from this area because it's in the middle of a park," Arvin said. "Hopefully, if there are any witnesses in this area that's going to be really tough to locate also, since it is 2:37 in the morning."

Anyone with information about any of the shootings should contact IMPD at (317) 327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS (8477).
