MCCORDSVILLE, Ind. - An Indianapolis man will spend decades behind bars after being found guilty of committing a violent home invasion that left a local businessman fighting for his life.
In March, a jury deliberated for less than an hour before finding Brandon Cunningham, 40, guilty of burglary and robbery resulting in serious injury. On Friday, a judge handed down Cunningham's sentence: 44 years in prison.
Previous reports detail how Cunningham was arrested in the wake of a 2023 McCordsville home invasion. Cunningham and a masked accomplice were accused of unlawfully entering the victim's home and demanding money.
The intruders fled after the robbery, shooting the victim at least twice. The local business owner was seriously wounded but managed to survive the attack.
The investigation into the home invasion pressed on for nearly a year without any arrests until Cunningham was apprehended by police and charged for the crime in November 2024.
"We are grateful for the work of the McCordsville Police Department providing us the evidence needed to achieve this outstanding result," said Hancock County Prosecutor Brent Eaton. "It was a lengthy and difficult investigation. They did a great job."
Despite court documents mentioning Cunningham robbing the victim's home with an accomplice, no other person has been charged or arrested in connection to this case.
