METRO BOOMIN TALKS ABOUT THE STATE OF HIP HOP AS 'LIKE THAT' HITS NO. 1

Metro Boomin is pleased that Hip Hop is alive and well, with the proof being that his and Future's single "Like That" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Taking to Instagram to rejoice in the moment on Tuesday (April 2), Metro shared a screenshot of this week's chart with the Kendrick Lamar-assisted track sitting at the top spot.

"HIP HOP IS ALIVE AND WELL," the famed producer wrote. "#WEDONTTRUSTYOU."

Additionally, Metro and Future command the No. 2 spot with "Type Shit" featuring Travis Scott and Playboi Carti, the No. 6 spot with "Cinderella" that also features Travis, the No. 8 spot with "We Don't Trust You" and No. 9 with "Young Metro" featuring The Weeknd - making for a total of five songs in the top 10 from their newly-released WE DON'T TRUST YOU album.



Kendrick has topped the Hot 100 tally twice before in his career with his feature on Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" in 2015 and "Humble" in 2017.

On "Like That," the former TDE rapper takes a number of shots, kicking things off with a mention of Drake and J. Cole's No. 1 single "First Person Shooter" and accusations of "sneak dissin.'"

"Yeah, get up with me/ Fuck sneak dissin', first person shooter/ I hope they came with three switches," he raps.

The Compton native then directly references "the big three," considered by many to be himself, Drake and J. Cole, asserting himself at the top of the rap chain.

He also compares himself to Prince and the others to Michael Jackson, suggesting his work will outlive both of their catalogs.

"Think I won't drop the location? I still got PTSD/ Muthafuck the big three, n-gga, it's just big me/ N-gga, bum, what? I'm really like that/ And your best work is a light pack/ N-gga, Prince outlived Mike Jack'," he spits.

The 36-year-old closes things out by referencing Drake's 2023 album For All the Dogs and Stephen King's 1983 novel Pet Sematary with: "N-gga, bum, 'fore all your dogs gettin' buried/ That's a K with all these nines, he gon' see Pet Sematary."

Seemingly unbothered by the slight, the 6 God appeared to respond to Kendrick's remarks with a defiant speech during a show in Sunrise, Florida on his Big As the What? Tour last week.
