Snoop Dogg to Reflect On His Life & Career In Newly Announced Biopic

The illustrious story of Snoop Dogg is coming to the big screen.

This week it was announced that a biopic exploring the legendary rapper's life and career is in the works. Variety originally reported the collaborative effort between Universal Pictures and Snoop Dogg's new imprint, Death Row Pictures. The movie has yet to receive a title or potential release date. What is known, however, is that Snoop's countless hits will be heard throughout the film.

The project has enlisted the great Allen Hughes to serve as director. Responsible for 90s cult classics "Menace II Society" and "Dead Presidents," Hughes' resume has illustrated his ability to pull off such an ambitious film. "Wakanda Forever" co-writer Joe Robert Cole will pen the script with the assistance of Snoop.

In a statement, the 51-year-old expressed his excitement about the biopic, sharing that he took his time handpicking the "right director" and "perfect writer" to bring his many ideas for the cinema to life.

"It was the perfect marriage. It was holy matrimony, not holy macaroni," he joked.

Hughes called Snoop's story "authentic and utterly inspiring," while Cole, a longtime fan, praised the rapper for leaving an "indelible mark" on his life.

While there is no word on who will take on the lead role, "Atlanta" star Lakeith Stanfield portrayed a young Snoop in the N.W.A. biopic, "Straight Outta Compton." This places him at the top of the list of actors capable of tackling the role.

Snoop's legacy has been engraved in Hollywood, though his road to superstardom has not been an easy one. One aspect that the biopic is nearly sure to cover is his 1993 murder trial, which ended in a not-guilty verdict. Since Snoop has purchased and rebranded Death Row Records, it will be interesting to see how in-depth he explores his relationship with former C.E.O. Suge Knight.

The movie in still in the early development stages, with more details expected in upcoming months.
