Dear Lord, help us trust you in not only the big things but also the small, everyday things, as we pray, "Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Zip Upside Down!
Tuesday, March 10th, 2015
Read Jeremiah 17:7-8
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight.
- Proverbs 3:5 (NRSV)
Recently my family and I went on a zip-line adventure. After climbing a 65-step tower, we zipped from tower to tower while holding one hand loosely on the zip line to control our speed. To steady us, we placed the other hand on the overhead cable that connected our seat harness to the zip line. On the final tower, our instructor told us we could zip upside down by folding our legs up close to our bodies and leaning back. Although age 87 at the time, I had really wanted to experience this, but regardless of how far I leaned back, I could not do it.
Later I realized why I had been unsuccessful; I had not trusted enough in myself to "let go" of the overhead cable. How true that is of life, I thought. To fully enjoy our life with God, we must "let go" - let go of our old life with its worries, old habits, and old pursuits. Then we will be free to enjoy the adventure of the abundant life God intends for us
