Clinton County Sheriff's Office investigating string of car break-ins; Suspect arrested

ROSSVILLE, Ind. - The Clinton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a string of car break-ins that happened in Rossville over the weekend.




According to a Facebook post from the sheriff's office, dispatchers first began to receive calls about the break-ins around 10:55 p.m. Friday. The first person who called police said they had video footage of a person breaking into and going through their vehicle.




As Friday evening turned into Saturday morning, Clinton County dispatchers continued to get calls about vehicle break-ins in the Rossville area. CCSO indicated that, in total, approximately 25 victims were impacted by the break-ins.




While break-in calls poured in, on-duty deputies requested assistance from an on-call investigator. After taking statements and collecting evidence, sheriff's deputies arrested 28-year-old Houston Barnhart of Rossville for his alleged role in the break-ins.




Barnhart has been preliminarily charged with theft - a Level 6 Felony - and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, a Class B Misdemeanor. On Saturday, Barnhart was booked into the Clinton County jail and held on a $750 cash bond.




CCSO indicated that its deputies have returned some of the items that were stolen during the break-ins. The sheriff's office is encouraging additional break-in victims and tipsters with information on the thefts to call detective Mark Pinkard at (765) 670-8761.




As of this article's publication, the sheriff's office had not publicly identified any additional suspects that may have been involved in this weekend's car break-ins in Rossville.
