DNR: Indianapolis man makes record-breaking fish catch in Dearborn County

DEARBORN COUNTY, Ind. -- An Indianapolis man made a record-breaking catch in Dearborn County earlier this summer.
According to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Tyler Baumann caught a 9-ounce mooneye on the east fork of the Whitewater River in Deaborn County on June 5. The 12-inch-long fish was caught from a kayak using a nightcrawler under a bobber.
The Indiana DNR said this catch beat the previous record of 5.8 ounces set in 2019 on the Ohio River in Clark County. Record fish in the state of Indiana are determined by weight rather than length.
Mooneye fish are found in large rivers throughout the state of Indiana. For more information about the Indiana Record Fish program or the Fish of the Year program, click here.
