Docs: Danville man sold meth to woman that caused her death in April 2024

DANVILLE, Ind. -- A Danville man reportedly sold drugs that caused the death of a woman in Clayton in April 2024.




According to court documents filed in Hendricks County earlier this month, Jakob Wireman has been charged with one count of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, a Level 1 felony, in relation to this incident.




On April 10, 2024, deputies with the Hendricks County Sheriff's Department were called to a home in Clayton on reports of an overdose. When deputies arrived, they found that a woman, later identified as Olivia Ryland, had died.




When deputies were on the scene, they were met by a family member of Ryland's. The documents said he reportedly received a text from Ryland that said "oops," to which he asked what she meant by that.




"...She never responded, which he said is normal for her to do," the documents said. "He later got home and found Olivia lying in her bed deceased."

The family member told deputies that at that time, Ryland had been in rehab and had recently returned home. The documents said a baggie containing a clear crystal/rock-like substance was located near Ryland at the time she was found dead.




The documents said Ryland's cause of death was from methamphetamine and fentanyl intoxication. The substance found at the scene later tested positive for methamphetamine.




After interviews with family members, Wireman was identified as a potential suspect in this incident. In screenshots of text messages from Ryland to a contact named "Jake," the documents featured reported conversations between the two regarding drug-related transactions.




Deputies obtained search warrants to Wireman's phone, as well as the phone of another man who was reportedly with Ryland the evening she died.




The documents said the other man's phone included screenshots of messages surrounding an alleged drug transaction between Ryland and Wireman that occurred the day she was found dead. The screenshots reportedly show that Ryland was able to purchase methamphetamine, fentanyl and Xanax from Wireman at the same time.




The documents said that Wireman's phone has reportedly "no communication... for many of (Wireman's) text messages regarding Olivia and her death."




"It is strange to be missing large quantities of time for someone who utilizes text messages so frequently without deleting anything," the documents read.




Court documents also state that Wireman has been separately charged in relation to another case on drug-related charges, including:

• One count of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 3 felony





• One count of obstruction of justice, a Level 6 felony





• One count of resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony

Wireman's initial hearing in relation to the dealing resulting in death case is scheduled for Monday afternoon in Hendricks County.
