Fishers police: Grave robber caught with stolen ring

FISHERS, Ind. - A graveyard employee is accused of digging up an urn and stealing a gold ring that was buried with someone's remains.

According to the Fishers Police Department, officers were patrolling Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens late Monday evening when a suspicious vehicle was spotted. Police say the vehicle was unoccupied with a shotgun and paraphernalia in plain view.

While officers examined the vehicle, a man covered head-to-toe in dirt emerged from the woods and told police he was the owner of the suspicious vehicle.

The man was identified as Seth Davidson, 24, of Indianapolis. Davidson is allegedly an employee of Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Police said Davidson confessed to graverobbing, telling officers he recently buried an urn he knew to contained a gold ring. Unable to stop thinking about the ring, Davidson said he returned, dug up the grave and stole the ring.

Davidson led police behind a dumpster where he reportedly hid the gold ring after spotting the police officers arriving at the cemetery. He also led officers to the grave where police noted the freshly disturbed dirt.

According to Fishers police, Oak Lawn confirmed Davidson was an employee and said family of the deceased had been notified about their loved one's gravesite being disturbed.

Davidson is charged with one count of theft as a Level 6 felony, one count of cemetery mischief as a Level 6 felony and one misdemeanor count of criminal trespass.
