About Derek Davis
A natural-born singer/songwriter/musician and gifted performer, Davis began his musical journey at the age of 7 when his mother bought him a Midland reel-to-reel tape recorder for Christmas. From that moment on his passion for music and recording took over his life. He began drum lessons in elementary school and soon started focusing on vocals and guitar. Davis began his professional music career at the age of 15, writing his own songs, fronting bands, headlining clubs, bars, and other music venues all over the San Francisco Bay Area.
In 1987 Davis formed the band The Persuaders with some high school friends and his newly formed rock band soon took the Bay Area by storm, making a name for themselves with their powerful live performances and catchy songwriting skills they quickly became one of the top drawing original rock bands in the Northern CA.
As the bands lead singer/frontman songwriter and producer, Davis produced the bands first 3-song demo which led to an introduction to co-write with Producer/Songwriter "Jack Ponti". This endeavor soon caught the attention of the legendary music mogul "Clive Davis" who signed the band to a recording contract with Arista Records at a private showcase and a 6-figure publishing deal with Virgin Music EMI which then led to the birth of the rock band, Babylon A.D.
While at Arista Records, Babylon A.D. released two critically acclaimed CDs:
The self-titled "Babylon A.D." in 1990, which reached gold status, and "Nothing Sacred" in 1992. The band's first release produced three Top 10 songs on the A.O.R Metal charts: "Bang Go the Bells," "Hammer Swings Down," and "Kid Goes Wild" which featured the comedian "Sam Kinison" and was the trailer track and video for Orion Pictures film "RoboCop 2". The band's sophomore release "Nothing Sacred" produced two more Top 10 metal rockers: "Bad Blood" and "So Savage The Heart." With strong video rotation on MTV and constant touring, Babylon A.D. soon became one of hard rock fans' most popular bands.
Over the past 35 years, Davis has showcased his extraordinary singing, songwriting, and musicianship in several areas.
