At Least Five Dead, 18 Injured In Mass Shooting At Club Q In Colorado Springs

At least five people were killed, and more than a dozen people injured during a mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs on Saturday night, just before midnight. A suspect is in custody.

Police received reports of a shooting at Club Q at 11:57 p.m. According to Lt. Pamela Castro of the Colorado Springs Police Department, the gunman was brought down by patrons at the scene. The suspect was injured and being treated but is in custody. It was not immediately made clear what injuries the gunman sustained.

The FBI was on the scene assisting in the investigation. Police declined to comment on the motive behind the shooting.

"Club Q is devastated by the senseless attack on our community," the club wrote on its Facebook page. "Our prays and thoughts are with all the victims and their families and friends."

They added, "We thank the quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack."

According to Club Q's Facebook page, the club featured a drag performance on Saturday and was preparing to host a drag brunch on Sunday. A post said they would celebrate Transgender Day of Remembrance, which honors transgender people that have lost their lives to violence.

The incident is reminiscent of the mass shooting at an LGBTQ club in Orlando on June 12, 2016. In the attack on Pulse, 49 people were killed, and 53 were injured. It was the second deadliest mass shooting in the country's history.
