Young Thug Stages Anti-Violence Concert Outside Courthouse Where He Once Faced Charges

Young Thug turned the steps of the Fulton County Courthouse into a stage Sunday afternoon with a surprise anti-violence concert at the same location where he pleaded guilty in a sweeping gang case last year.

Crowds gathered quickly after the Atlanta rapper posted an open invite on social media to pull up at 4 P.M. for what turned out to be a brief but pointed performance.

The courthouse, usually a symbol of legal reckoning, was outfitted with speakers, lights and smoke effects for the impromptu show.

"I wanted to do it at this place because this place changed my life for the better," Williams told the crowd. "This is not the place you want to be on the bad side. When you come here, you want to be a lawyer, you want to be a DA, you want to be on that side, you don't want to be on the defendant side. This place shaped me, this place changed my life."

Williams arrived just after 5 P.M. and performed for roughly 15 minutes. Afterward, he greeted attendees, signed autographs and shook hands before heading back inside.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office described the event as an "anti-violence, anti-gun, and anti-gang rally."

Sheriff Patrick Labat said even if the message reaches just one person, it's worth it.

"We got rid of our problems and I hope you find a way to get rid of yours," Williams told the audience. "Life is precious, so I just want everybody to be better. Even if it's worth something, it's not worth losing people. It's not worth living that type of life."

The concert came nearly a year after Williams entered guilty pleas in the YSL RICO case, where prosecutors accused him and others of running a violent gang called Young Slime Life.

After spending over two years behind bars, Williams pleaded no contest to conspiracy and admitted guilt to drug and weapons charges. He received a 40-year sentence, with five years credited as time served and the remaining 15 years on probation.
